BOROBUDUR
Last week I was visiting Borobudur temple. It was a great temple and one of the biggest Buddhist temples
in the world.

I had been there for several times and I still love to go there again and again. I know a little bit about the
history of the restoration of the Borobudur Temple.

Borobudur temple was built in 9th-century in (now) Magelang city, Central Java, Indonesia.

That temple was built during the reign of Sailendra Dynasty as the symbolic monument retelling the life
of Buddha in which people can learn about Buddhist religion.

The temple was design in Javanese Buddhist architecture as the acculturation of Indian and Javanese
culture.

Some evidences and theories suggest that Borobudur temple was disappeared during the reign of Hindu
kingdoms and Islam in java in 14th-century and the years after it.

It was disappeared because of the eruption of Merapi Mountain that buried most of the surrounding area
including Borobudur.

But because of that eruption then the temple was survived and untouchable until in 1814 during the
British colonialization, Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles (the British ruler of Java at that time) got
information that there was a hill with carved texture.

After that Thomas Stamford Raffles made a project to dig and clear that area and after 2 mounts working
the Borobudur temple was appeared.

But of course at that time the face of Borobudur was extremely different from it appearance today.

Since it was found the British government restored that temple and continued by the Dutch government.
The largest restoration was undertaken by Indonesian government and UNESCO between 1975 until
1982.

Since that now we can enjoy and learn about the beauty of the Borobudur Temple.

II. Unforgettable Experience

Scout Competition

When I was 6th grade at elementary school I was appointed to bring my scout team into the Strada
Scout Meetings throughout Indonesia. I was so excitded until the teacher told me we have to work hard
and we sued to win this competition. I am very sure that my team was a very competitive scout team at
that time but the problem is I have an national swimming competition along with the scout competition.
I am very confusion because both things is my favourite things.

Finally, I decided to join my scout competition. I really put my focus on it and me with my team
practice everyday everywhere. We are very lucky because our teacher is support us, yes, very very
support us. We sacrifice our lesson hours to practice. We practie so many technics like climbing,
swimming, running, arranging sticks, make so many creative things like traditional robot, and may
more activity.

Someday, when we doing our routine practice, my friend kenneth had an injury and at that time is
1 week before the competition, my teacher told me that I have to bring a new member to replace
kenneth. But, I say no, because I believe kenneth gonna recovered very very soon because I think that
is not an heavy injur. “Thank god!” me and my team says when we saw kenneth can walk in his feet.
And we have to practice more harder because we not exercise for two days.

At the time we come to this competition, I see so much people. I remember my teacher said that
the participants amounting to 20k people. “whoaa” said my team because we are so excited. When our
team called like “Strada Santo Ignatius regu Semut!!” I remember nobody give an applause or scream,
different for any team that every single team has an audience but we’re not. When we went to flag
ceremony I slipped off because the mud is so slippy. And when the flag ceremony I decided to go back
in row because I’m so dizzy. I very remember when I was in the care center, team leader frpm another
strada elementary school said to me “what kind of team leader are you? The competition is not start yet
and you had an very embarrasing incident” and I’m not comment on that statement but I ask myself “so
what is he doing here”

When the flag ceremony was end we pray together and I lead the prayer and I said like “Goa
please lead our team in this competition no matter what as long as You with us we are don’t care about
the first place.” And then my teacher said “guys we’re as a teacher not sued you to be the best but show
us the best”. But that word just make us to more insistent to win this competition.

And when the competition start we do our best to win this competition. And we really win this
competition and I remember the point that we collect for this 3 days is 848 points. So my messages on
this story is always make God lead our ways therefore the God will give us the best of his plan as long
as we do our best.
