Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

In today’s Gospel, Jesus admonishes, “No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what was left
behind is fit for the kingdom of God.” Clearly Jesus does not want families to be mired in mourning,
resentment, worry or loyalties that cause them to lose hope and direction. The key is to seek God first
and let all other cares be secondary. Then, we will find direction and energy to fulfill our responsibilities
and journey through life with joy no matter what difficulties face us.
354 Holy Hours were kept before the Blessed Sacrament this past week.
Our vacant hours are: Sunday midnight to 1am and Sunday 1-2pm.
Scripture tells us to “Store up treasures in Heaven.” Fathers Byrider and
Clines both commented on how much Our Lord appreciates Holy Hours and
Heaven is our destination if we are involved. Call and commit to an hour!

Pastor’s Formed Pick of the Week: “Benedict XVI”

This excellent new documentary produced in Europe on the life and papacy of Pope Benedict
XVI (Joseph Ratzinger) shows us the great milestones of his life: renowned theology professor,
prolific author, expert at the Second Vatican Council, longtime collaborator of John Paul II, and
his pontificate that ended with a surprise: his resignation at the age of 86 years old. His battles
for defending the faith and for transparency within the Church provoked both support and
criticism. It was a long Way of the Cross for this great churchman that ended with a master
lesson of humility, giving way to his successor.
Christ’s Peace!
Fr. David Majikas

Charitable Giving Ideas for 2019 - Did you know that gifting appreciated stock (held more than
one year) to a charitable organization such as Catholic Charities or your parish may allow you to
deduct the stock’s full value and bypass capital gains tax? In addition, if you are 70 ½ or older,
you may be able to reduce your taxable income this year with a gift made directly from your IRA
to a qualified charity such as Catholic Charities or your parish. Your accountant or IRA
administrator can help you understand how the IRA Charitable Rollover works and the particular
steps you can take to lower your taxes and help Catholic Charities, your parish or a diocesan
ministry. Learn more by contacting Sandy Lucas of the Catholic Community Foundation at (216)

We had a great time Setting Sail with the Holy Trinity at our Vacation Bible
School this year! We learned about the three persons of the Trinity, the
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and that even though they are 3 persons they
are one God. We heard stories about St. Patrick and St. Augustine. We had
fun at games, especially the water games! We learned so many good songs,
like Let the Fire Fall and Trinity Roll Up. We heard some fantastic Bible
stories, like how Jesus was baptized in the Jordan and the Holy Spirit came upon him
and the Father spoke. We never went hungry with our yummy snacks either,
especially the chocolate dipped pretzels! We also made some cool crafts, like shamrock
sun catchers and hanging snakes. A BIG THANK YOU to all of our marvelous
volunteers and donors! VBS would not be possible without you!
