RECTILINEAR MOTION AND ROTATING VESSEL

1) WHAT ARE THE DIFF. CASES IN RECTILINEAR MOTION IN FLUID MECHANICS?
GIVE PRACTICAL APPLICATION & DRAWINGS.

HORIZONTAL ACCELERATION
IF A MASS OF FLUID MOVES HORIZONTALLY ALONG A STRAIGHT LINE AT
CONSTANT ACCELERATION A, THE LIQUID SURFACE ASSUME AN ANGLE Θ WITH THE
HORIZONTAL. FOR ANY VALUE OF A, THE ANGLE Θ CAN BE FOUND BY CONSIDERING A
FLUID PARTICLE OF MASS M ON THE SURFACE. THE FORCES ACTING ON THE PARTICLE
ARE THE WEIGHT W = MG, INERTIA FORCE OR REVERSE EFFECTIVE FORCE REF = MA,
AND THE NORMAL FORCE N WHICH IS THE PERPENDICULAR REACTION AT THE
SURFACE.

INCLINED ACCELERATION
CONSIDER A MASS OF FLUID BEING ACCELERATED UP AN INCLINE Α FROM
HORIZONTAL. THE HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL COMPONENTS OF INERTIA
FORCE REF WOULD BE RESPECTIVELY, X = MAH AND Y = MAV.
VERTICAL ACCELERATION
A MASS OF LIQUID MOVING VERTICALLY UPWARD WITH A CONSTANT
ACCELERATION A. THE FORCES ACTING TO A LIQUID COLUMN OF DEPTH H FROM THE
SURFACE ARE WEIGHT OF THE LIQUID W = ΓV, THE INERTIA FORCE REF = MA, AND THE
PRESSURE F = PA AT THE BOTTOM OF THE COLUMN.

RADIAL ACCELERATION ( VORTEX FLOW )

WE KNOW THAT ANY FLUID MASS HAVING A MOTION ALONG A CURVE POSSESSES
RADIAL ACCELERATION. THE DIRECTION OF THE RADIAL ACCELERATION AT ANY POINT
IN THE PATH OF THE MOTION IS TOWARDS THE CENTER OF MOTION. THIS MEANS ANY
FLUID MASS IN MOTION ALONG A CURVE IS UNDER THE ACTION OF A RADIALLY INWARD
FORCE. THIS FORCE IS THE CENTRIPETAL FORCE. SUCH CENTRIPETAL FORCES ARE
PRODUCED BY CORRESPONDING PRESSURE CHANGES. WHEN A FLUID CONTINUOUSLY
FLOWS ALONG A CURVED PATH ABOUT A FIXED AXIS, THE FLOW IS CALLED VORTEX
FLOW OR WHIRLING FLOW.

2) WHAT ARE THE DIFF. CASES IN ROTATING VESSEL IN FLUID MECHANICS?

GIVE PRACTICAL APPLICATION & DRAWINGS.
3) WHY DO WE STUDY RECTILINEAR MOTION & ROTATING VESSEL ON FLUID MECHANICS?
BECAUSE WE CAN APPLY THE CONCEPTS OF RECTILINEAR MOTION AND
ROTATING VESSEL IN REAL LIFE. BECAUSE IT IS TYPE OF MOTION THAT DESCRIBES THE
MOVEMENT THE FLUID IN A OBJECT THAT WE CAN SAY WHETHER THE FLUID IN A
OBJECT WILL SPILLED WHEN WE ACCELERATE AN OBJECT.
