Evaluation Document – Unit 20 – Advertising Media

Web Based Advertisement

Compared to the professional banner and media account I think mine looks
more professional as I have used better graphics and more colourful images
this makes my poster stand out and look eye catching which I feel will appeal
to a big audience. I also used bold fonts so that when further away the
audience would be able to read the poster from a distance, this was effective
as it was still getting across to people even when not face to face with the
poster. When creating my banner I also used the same characters and
background on the banner. This was an easy part of the creating of the banner
as I only had to use the re-size tool to make them fit in nicely with the banner
size and just add some more information.
When creating my social media campaign I had to use the software Photoshop
as it had a variety of tools. An example of one of the tools that I used is the
magic eraser. I used this to edit and cut off any white backgrounds from the
image that I had selected. Another tool that I had used was text, I used this so I
could add in catchy slogans and titles. I stuck with the main colours of greens
and browns representing life and death as it was contrasting and gave a more
effective look.
The general codes and conventions of my media platform is it will reach a
wider audience as a lot of people use social media especially the target
audience I am aiming at which is 15+, using social media would be easier to get
a message across than print based advertising. This is an advantage as social
media is worldwide meaning it would spread quickly to anywhere in the world.
This could gain me many viewers.
One of the social Medias I am using will be is face book. For me to make my
media posts look professional and to see if they would be effective in that
media choice, I had to search other professional media accounts to get ideas. I
searched for a face book page to find a template that I so I could screen shot
my pictures and edit them onto it. I did this using Photoshop as a way to see
what the finished product will be like.

Print based Advertisement

I think that both of my print based advertisements have met the codes and
conventions of advertising media as the idea of the posters is to show people
the effects of smoking and to try and persuade people to stop.
To come up with the final idea of my poster for the layout and content I had to
research and find examples of professional film posters to see what is the most
effective way to design it to make it stand out to my audience. The idea I
gained from the example poster was the credits as this would make my posters
look more professional to my target audience. I also added in small bits of
information to give the audience an idea of the short film which included
names and a catchy slogan.
When creating and design the poster I wanted it to be hard hitting and to do
this id have to include some effective visuals on it for the audience to see. This
is why I included two figures one who was happy and healthy and the other
who was struggling and looked poorly, I out both figures on opposite sides of
the background, and at the very front of the poster I have a sign with two
hands saying life and death. This would create a dramatic and effective as what
I was trying to show is that there is two paths you can go down and two
different sides of life, you can either live a healthy lifestyle or live an unhealthy
one and struggle. I haven’t chosen to use images that are bloody as people
could be harmed by these images, therefore this could result in me being
prosecuted so used more friendly images but still with the same effect.
The general codes and conventions of my media product is that I have used a
recognisable house style throughout the creation of my poster and other
media products. Another code and convention I have used is in the poster I
have placed ratings at the bottom of the poster which are usually found on
professional posters. This will catch the audience eyes as they will recognise it
as professional and will be more interested in watching it.

Meeting the brief

The advertising campaign that I have created, I believe that my products meet
meets the client brief because I have kept the content included suitable to my
target audience. Also making sure that it was suitable for all ethical
backgrounds as I didn’t want to offend anybody. Therefore as this was a major
requirement I couldn’t use any graphic images or offensive language so I have
made sure that my campaign is completely friendly and un-harmful.
File formats
When I have been creating my advertisements I have been using a variety of
images. Therefore by using images I have saved the used images as jpegs, PNG
and PDF. This was I could upload my images easier to put onto the social media
than what it would have been if I was to have the images saved a normal
standard file size.

Draft discussion
I used wire frames for a most of my drafts and my print based designs. I
sketched it up therefore I could play around with the layout of the product,
this was helpful as I could then have a clear idea where I wanted everything to
be set out. However I market it up and realised that not everything had fit to
scale so I went back and changed the text and images slightly. When in
Photoshop to create my final product in the size of an international paper so
that when it came to resizing my poster and printing it out it would still contain
a higher quality format.
Quality of product

When creating my advertising campaign I have had to consider how

I can make the different types of advertising aesthetically pleasing
for the audience. For me to be able to make it pleasing for the
audience I had to consider what type of hard hitting images I could
use to still get the message across. Therefore I chose to use images
of two characters one who was out of breath and struggling and
the other who was happy playing I had both characters sat on a hill
one side was brown symbolising death and destruction and the
other green to show health. I added in an image I created of a sign
post one way pointing death and one way point life. This
was very effective as it was clearly showing to the
audience the two sides and different paths you can take.
This allows the audience to visually see what the message
in through the picture. By using these type of images it
reaches the full target audience because there is cartoon
images for the younger half of the audience but still
images that the older audience can engage with.
