SYSTEMS AND Consult your International Paint representative for the system best suited for the surfaces to be protected.
COMPATIBILITY

SURFACE PREPARATIONS Paint only clean, dry surfaces. Remove all grease, oil, soluble contaminants and other foreign matter by "solvent
cleaning" (SSPC-SP1).

NEWBUILDING
Dependent on yard procedures. Consult International Paint.

Steel:
For optimum performance "Near White Blast Cleaning" (SSPC-SP10) is recommended.
Surface profile should be between 50 microns and 63 microns.

Shop Primed Surfaces:

Consult your International Paint representative for specific recommendations.

Prior to overcoating, Interzinc 22HS must be clean, dry and free from both soluble salts and excessive zinc corrosion
products.

Applied Film Thickness:

As a characteristic with high solids coatings, care should be taken to maintain the recommended wet film thickness in
order to avoid excessive dry film thickness.
Excessive film thickness and/or over-application of Interzinc 22HS will lead to mudcracking, which will require
complete removal of the affected areas by abrasive blasting and re-application in accordance with the original
specification.

Topcoating:
Overcoating time will vary depending upon the generic type of top coat and specific application conditions. (1) Allow
to cure a minimum of 24 hours at greater than 25°C and 50% relative humidity with good air circulation. Since cure
times may vary with conditions, check for cure to accept topcoats by performing a solvent rub test in accordance with
ASTM D4752. (2) Before topcoating, clean surface thoroughly, removing all dirt grease, oil or other contaminants. (3)
Prepare corroded, welded or damaged areas by abrasive blasting (SSPC-SP10) and prime these recleaned areas
with an inhibitive, organic primer. (4) When applying topcoats a mist coat may be required. As necessary, apply a
mist coat of topcoat material followed by a full coat at proper film thickness to help prevent solvent bubbling. (5)
Apply only topcoats specifically recommended by International Paint.
It is recommended that prior to overcoating a solvent rub test to ASTM D-4752 should be undertaken. A value of 4
indicates a satisfactory degree of cure for overcoating purpose.
The minimum overcoating interval is dependant upon the relative humidity during cure. Below 55% relative humidity
the minimum recoat period will normally be at least 24 hours, but will be dependent upon the ambient temperature
and relative humidity during the application and curing period.

APPLICATION Apply by conventional spray or airless spray. When spraying, pressure (material) tank must be located above or
on the same level as work, material hoses should be extended full length - avoid loops, sags and coils. Allow for
losses due to surface irregularities and application methods. Strain material through a minimum 60 mesh screen
before application. Apply 96 microns wet which will yield 76 microns dry film thickness. Consult the following
equipment recommendations or utilize suitable equal.
Note: Do not apply in excess of 127 microns dry film thickness.

The curing time will vary depending upon dry film thickness and conditions that exist during the application and
throughout the curing period.
Mixing Material is supplied in 2 containers as a unit. Always mix a complete unit in the proportions supplied. (1) Agitate
Part A with a power agitator, (2) Remove moisture absorbent packing from Powder (Part B) and discard. (3)
Slowly add Powder into Part A (Liquid) while agitating with power mixer and allow to mix at least 5 minutes. (4)
Strain material through a 30-60 mesh screen into air agitator equipped tank, container or pressure pot. (5)
Operate air agitator at low speed (approximately 20 R.P.M.) sufficient to keep powder in suspension. (6) Keep
system closed, free of moisture. Pot life will be reduced and material may "set up" if excessive moisture is present
during mixing or in equipment. Pot life varies with temperature and humidity conditions.

Thinner DO NOT THIN BEYOND YOUR STATE'S COMPLIANCY. Material is supplied at spray viscosity and normally
does not need thinning. If thinning is necessary, thin up to a maximum of 8 ounces (237 ml) per gallon with
International GTA138, or for tropical conditions use GTA027.
Airless Spray Minimum 30:1 ratio pump, with Teflon packings. Use 60 mesh filter in pump manifold or an in-line filter. 0.015"-
0.021" (381-533 microns) orifice tip; 3/8" (9.5mm) ID high pressure hose.
Conventional Spray DeVilbiss MBC or JGA gun with a heavy mastic spring, E tip and 704 or 765 air cap, 3/8" (9.5 mm) ID material
hose, 50 feet (15.2 m) length maximum; double regulated air agitator equipped pressure tank with oil and moisture
separator.

Work Stoppages and Cleanup Maintain material under constant low speed agitation. Clean all equipment immediately after use with
International GTA138 Thinner. Spray equipment requires flushing with this solvent. It is good working practice to
periodically flush out spray equipment during the course of the working day. Frequency will depend upon factors
such as amount sprayed, temperature and elapsed time including work stoppages. Monitor material condition. Do
not exceed pot life limitations.

Welding In the event welding or flame cutting is performed on metal coated with this product, dust and fumes will be
emitted which will require the use of appropriate personal protective equipment and adequate local exhaust
ventilation. In North America do so in accordance with instruction in ANSI/ASC Z49.1 "Safety in Welding and
Cutting."

SAFETY All work involving the application and use of this product should be performed in compliance with all
relevant national Health, Safety & Environmental standards and regulations.

Prior to use, obtain, consult and follow the Material Safety Data Sheet for this product concerning health
and safety information. Read and follow all precautionary notices on the Material Safety Data Sheet and
container labels. If you do not fully understand these warnings and instructions or if you can not strictly
comply with them, do not use this product. Proper ventilation and protective measures must be provided
during application and drying to keep solvent vapour concentrations within safe limits and to protect
against toxic or oxygen deficient hazards. Take precautions to avoid skin and eye contact (ie. gloves,
goggles, face masks, barrier creams etc.) Actual safety measures are dependant on application methods
and work environment.

LIMITATIONS Apply in good weather when air and surface temperatures are above 5°C. Surface temperatures must be at least 3°
C above dew point. For optimum application properties, bring material to 21-27°C prior to mixing and application.
Unmixed material (in closed containers) should be maintained in protected storage between 4-35°C.
Care should be taken at temperatures close to freezing that surfaces are free from ice.
At relative humidities below 50%, curing will be severely retarded and humidity may need to be increased by use of
steam or water spraying.
For high temperature systems the thickness of Interzinc 22HS should be restricted to 50 microns d.f.t. Continuous
dry temperature resistance of Interzinc 22HS is 400°C if left untopcoated. However, if this product is used as a
primer for Intertherm 50, the dry temperature resistance will be 540°C.
Interzinc 22HS is not suitable for exposure in acid or alkaline conditions.
When applying Interzinc 22HS in confined spaces, ensure adequate ventilation.
Overcoating information is given for guidance only and is subject to regional variation depending upon local climate
and environmental conditions. Consult your local International Paint representative for specific recommendations.
Technical and application data herein is for the purpose of establishing a general guideline of the coating and proper
coating application guidelines. Test performance results were obtained in a controlled laboratory environment and
International Paint makes no claim that the exhibited published test results, or any other tests, accurately represent
results actually found in all field environments. As application, environmental and design factors can vary
