Unit 23 – Personal Media Profile

1. Suitability for Audience:

The audience for my personal media profile is people who wish to


employ me to produce digital products such as graphic designs,
photography, web design and movie editing. This would be an
adult audience who are 18 plus and both male and female. I will
have a range of customer types from small independent
companies to individuals who require professional digital
products.

The logo that I had created for my personal media profile is simple
yet colourful, I wanted it to be different from logos from
competitors as I wanted it to stand out and be easy to identify and
memorable. Although I wanted my logo to represent me as a strong
professional woman I did not want to alienate any male clients.

The images that I have used throughout my personal media profile are suitable for my audience. I have
tried to incorporate a range of products that shows that I can develop products suitable for both males
and females. The level of professionalism in my Media Profile demonstrates that I can produce high
quality products suitable for a mature professional audience.

My colour scheme for my personal media profile was pastel colours throughout as I wanted it to look
aesthetically pleasing to the public and wanted to add a positive vibe to it as the stuff on there is quite
heavy and important so I wanted them to know that it was a positive place. I also used graphics for my
personal media profile for the home page as I put graphics over a picture of myself to show what I am
capable of an to show my creativity throughout my personal media profile. I used bright colours for this as
I wanted it to be eye catching for my audience.

2. Suitability for Purpose:

The purpose of my personal media profile is advertise myself as a digital designer. This portfolio
demonstrates the range of skills that I have across a range of media including photography, image editing,
document design, web design and video editing. I feel that my personal media profile will help me
promote myself and I will gain custom from potential clients due to the quality of the products that I have
included. I have also annotated all my pages to show case that I work closely with my clients to produce

3. Professionalism:

My work is professional as it is authentic and completely my own work and hasn’t been seen before,
also because I have used Photoshop and the right skills which my poster and banner shows for, all
my products are equally professional as they are all slightly similar as I wanted their to be a clear link
between the two, there was only a few changes to adapt it to where it would be advertised. I think
being able to compare to another flyer shows that mine looks equally as good and professional.

I don’t think that you can tell the difference between mine and the established professional portfolio, there
isn’t a clear indication that mine isn’t professional as everything is set out as a normal website would be, the
only difference is that they have set there’s out differently and are advertising different things than what I
am.

I have made my work professional as I have used a pale background which then makes my images stand out
and more appealing but also I have used professional fonts that are easy to read and by putting some bits in
bold it shows there importance. I haven’t made it overly colourful as I have adapted to my target audience
which is 21+ year olds so I didn’t want to overdo it, I have also kept it as a simple setting and layout so that it
isn’t confusing for people to navigate around my website. I would improve by adding search bars so that if
they want to search for anything specific they will be able to find it. Also I really liked Brand and Glory’s
homepage with the simplicity that make the homepage eye catching and professional.

4. Repurposing of media

As a graphic designer I am often required to repurpose and reuse products I have developed for
different reasons. I will go through some examples:

A: Word Documents:

Original Purpose:

I created many client briefs and specifications to be


presented to clients to make sure I had a full
understanding of all the requirements of different
projects. I would present these and discuss any
clarification of projects needed.

Repurposing:

I repurposed word documents by changing the format and purpose. I saved these documents as a
PDF to add them to my Personal Profile. PDF’s are a universal document that can be opened in any
web browser. This makes them accessible by all clients on different platforms. The purpose of these
documents have altered because originally it was for clarification of the requirements. Now that I
have placed them on my Media Profile they are to demonstrate how I work with clients closely to
ensure that I create products that meet their needs.

Advantages:

 Universal: Any client can open these documents on any platform


 Faster download times
 Others cannot edit my materials

Disadvantages:

 Time consuming – it takes time to save documents in this format.


 Sometime the formatting of fonts and the structure can be lost.

B: PowerPoint Presentations:

Original Purpose:

Another example is my PowerPoint presentations, I


made several power point documents for my client as I
wanted to show them different ideas for example mind
map, mood boards and storyboards, this is crucial as it
helps them picture what the end product is going to
like. The purpose of these documents was to work
through the design process and display my ideas to my
clients.

Repurposing:

To repurpose the PowerPoints I saved them as JPEG’s to allow me to enter them on my Media
Profile in a very visual way. I was able to save each slide separately and enter them as a slide show.
Then clients could interact with the presentation by clicking on the slides or view it as a slide show.
Again this demonstrated that I can interact with a client to develop the most suitable product.

Advantages:

 Universal: Any client can open these documents on any platform


 More visual way of viewing the presentation
 Others cannot edit my materials

Disadvantages:

 Time consuming – it takes time to save documents in this format.


 Display formats on different platforms were unreliable and images could appear blurred.
 Reduction of resolution
 Loss of animations and timings.

C: Videos

Original Purpose:

My original video content was for a range of purposes including an anti -smoking video and a
recording of my client presentation. These were recorded on a 4K digital camera and where very
clear and high quality.

Repurposing:

To repurpose the videos I saved them in a compressed format. This reduced the picture and sound
quality but was needed in order to be web-friendly. I placed these videos on my media profile not to
encourage clients to stop smoking, but to demonstrate my abilities and skills in the recording and
editing of videos. This is a very visual way of demonstrating my skill set.

Advantages:

 Entertaining for the audience of potential clients.

Disadvantages:

 Time consuming – it takes time to convert the videos.


 I also had to embed them through YouTube which whilst increasing reliability also made it
more time consuming.
 Reduction of resolution and sound quality reduced the overall effectiveness of my videos.
