Introduction

Water is made up of two negatively charged hydrogen atoms and one negatively charged oxygen atom
molecules stuck together. Water can flow and take up any shape for the reason that its molecules have
each energy to move around and pass each other. Even though water in flowing, particles flowing in it
and passing each other could differ in terms of pace. During the course of this experiment food coloring
will be tested between two varying water temperatures, hot and cold. The state of the food coloring,
after being poured at the same time in different water temperatures, will be explained and elaborated
further.

Procedure

First, we prepared the materials needed such as plastic container, food coloring, 48.8 degrees Celsius
hot water and 21 degrees Celsius cold water. Then, we poured the hot and cold water on each plastic
container and placed it beside each other. Next, we poured same amount of potassium permanganate
at the same time on each container. Finally, observing the state of the potassium permanganate in each
varying water temperatures for 30 seconds.

Results and Discussion

The result of this experiment shows that the food coloring dissolves faster when it’s poured in hot water
of 48.8 degrees Celsius than the cold water of 21 degrees Celsius. After waiting for 30 seconds, the
particles of the potassium permanganate in the hot water has been completely diluted while the
particles of the potassium permanganate in the cold water has not been fully diluted but only appeared
in a swirl manner.

Potassium permanganate dissolves faster in hot water because water molecules with higher
temperature has more energy than water molecules with lower temperature, making the particles of
the potassium permanganate flow and pass each other more easily.

Time Temp.
Hot water 5 sec. 30 sec. 48.8 degrees
Cold water 8 sec. 60 sec. 21 degrees
Conclusion

The result of this experiment clearly concludes that water molecules with high temperature has more
energy and pass each other more easily than water molecules with low temperature after using the
potassium permanganate as a variable for making the particles visible.
