EPA 2007 Engine Indicators and Switches

Vehicles with an EPA 2007 engine have several new indicators and switches.

Indicators

Three new indicators are standard on the instrumentation control unit in vehicles with a 2007 engine.

The purpose of the DPF status indicator is to let the driver

know that an active—or manual—regeneration is required.

The purpose of the high exhaust system temperature indicator

is to indicate potentially hazardous exhaust temperatures at the
outlet of the tailpipe.

The purpose of the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is to indicate all active
emission-related faults including, but not limited to, the aftertreatment device.

Switches

The regen request switch allows the operator to initiate an active—or manual—regeneration.

An optional regen inhibit switch will be available in mid-2007 with 2007 Mercedes-Benz engines, 2007 Caterpillar
engines, and most 2007 Detroit Diesel engines. A regen inhibit switch will not be available with a 2007 Cummins engine.
The regen inhibit switch allows the operator to delay or cancel an active—or manual—regeneration.

Pyrometer Gauge

Vehicles with an EPA 2007 engine do not have adequate space in the turbocharger to install a thermocouple to drive a
pyrometer gauge. The pyrometer gauge must now be capable of being datalink driven.

To drive the pyrometer gauge, all 2007 engines—except Cummins—broadcast the data on the J1587 datalink. A
datalink-driven pyrometer gauge will be available on the ICU4, ICU4M, and ICUF instrumentation control units on
January 1, 2007, when the 2007 engines are required. A pyrometer gauge is not available with a 2007 Cummins engine.
