TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

1. Kapurpurawan Rock Formation

Province: Ilocos Norte

Just an hour outside of Laoag city is the Kapurpurawan Rock


Formation, which gets its name for the Ilocano term “puraw” which
means “white”. The natural wonder fronts Bangui Bay and is the
result of thousands of years of particles deposited ashore by sea
waves and wind.

2. HIDDEN GARDEN

Province: Ilocos Sur

Hidden Garden sells plants and clay pots they call as burnay
jars. They have a chinese restaurant and a coffee shop as well. The
clay pots can be used as decorations or as your plant pots. Eating
in their restaurant is really awesome because of the lovely and
relaxing environment. The landscape is properly designed and
there are plants and flowers everywhere.

3. PEBBLE BEACH

Province: La Union

In Luna, La Union, locals collect pebbles from the Pebble


Beach. They sort out the pebbles and handpick the best ones so they
can sell them to other countries. They believe that the beautiful
pebbles in La Union won’t run out soon.

4. DEATH POOL

Province: Pangasinan

Would you dare dive into the so called “Death Pool” in


Cabongaoan Beach? It was a term humorously coined by the locals to
describe the natural swimming pool that forms near the beach
whenever the tide comes in and fills it with saltwater.
REGION 2 – CAGAYAN VALLEY
TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

1. Nakabuang Beach and Mahayaw Arch

Province: Batanes

Batanes also has its own white sand beach. Nakabuang


Beach, also known as Morong Beach, features majestic
waters and a shoreline dotted with powdery white sand. A
special feature of the beach is the Mahayaw Arch, a natural
geological formation that is truly Instagrammable.

2. Circadian bat flight

Province: Cagayan

Cruising the Pinacanauan River that flows through


Penablanca and just below Callao Cave is one of the ways to
enjoy this protected area. But its the circadian bat flight, a
very much awaited activity of these crepuscular animals that
you really need to see. It takes a short river trip from the
jump off point to the area below a cave, more of a hole on
the rock wall. Here, at dusk, millions of insect eating bats fly
out of the hole, forming a dark line in the sky and then flying
to their feeding areas around the park. Its really, and eerily,
a sight to behold.

3. Madadamian Falls

Province: Isabela

Madadamian Falls is a newly discovered ecotourism


destination in the remote village of Madadamian in
Echague. The waterfall circuit has 9 identified falls of varying
heights and natural pools. The tallest, Mada Falls is about 18
meters high, while Damian Falls is about 12 meters high.

4. Capisaan Cave System

Province: Nueva Vizcaya

The fifth-longest cave system in the Philippines is no


wonder the first on the list of the best attractions in Nueva
Vizcaya. This 4.2-kilometer long cave in Barangay Capisaan, Kasibu exhibits rare calcite formations,
pristine stalactite and stalagmite formations, and a subterranean river which doubles as a passageway to
its best part. This spelunking paradise also called as Lion-Alayan Cave, its main entry and exit points.

5. Aglipay Caves.

Province: Quirino
One of the better known attractions of Quirino province
are the Aglipay Caves and Campsite, a limestone cave system
located in Barangay Villa Sur in the municipality of Aglipay.
While nonstop rain spoiled our boating excursion at
Governor’s Rapids in Maddela for safety reasons, our team
of 10 travel bloggers finally enjoyed our first taste of what
the landlocked province had to offer at this subterranean
attraction.

1. Lussok Cave and Underground River


Luna, Apayao

Containing several chambers, this cave in Luna showcases nature


at its best. It has a wide opening, reminiscent of a cathedral’s dome.
To get inside the cave, one needs to ride a boat. Yes, it has an
underground river, like that of Palawan. The view of the river itself
is breathtaking. It reflects the color of the surrounding forest. Yes,
that’s fresh and pristine waters emanating from the cave. It is a
perfect spot for swimming and immersing with nature. Once inside,
one can catch sight of stunning stalactite and stalagmite rock
formations. One could simply wonder how such beauty formed. In
addition, numerous bats inhabit the cave. These indicate the rich
biodiversity inside the cave and the surrounding area. To date, this
is one of the most popular tourist spots of Apayao.
2. Kimkimay Lake (Villaviciosa)
Province: Abra

Kimkimay lake covers an approximate area of one


hectare. A local legend tells that the lake used to be a small
community of seven families. The families, however, were engaged
into vices, angering the gods who inhabit the place. As a
punishment, the gods submerged their community into cold
water. Today, the lake is a popular picnic and fishing spot among
the locals. To get here, one needs to travel along the 32-kilometer
winding Penarrubia-Villaviciosa- Pilar Road. Within the same
municipality, there is another lake called Limbo.

3. Rocky Wall of Beauties (Kibungan)


Province: Benguet

The landscape of barangay Tacadang, Kibungan


resembles the Grand Canyon of United States. Sheer and bare
rock cliffs and formations dominate its entire landscape. That is
why, it is also popularly known as the “Switzerland of Benguet.”
Today, Tacadang continues to attract flocks of mountaineers and
adventurers. It has several peaks for such activities. During rainy
months, numerous waterfalls surround Tacadang in almost every
direction. Some falls measure up to more than 500 meters high.
Stunning rice terraces can also be seen amidst dramatic rock cliffs.
Take note. It takes more or less a day of hike to reach the
community proper of Tacadang. From there, you can proceed to
locally-identified tourists’ attractions.

4. Bogyah Hot Spring (Hungduan)


Province: Ifugao

This is just right beside the Hungduan river. Its sulfuric


waters offer a healing and relaxing bath. A pool has been erected
to contain the thermal waters. This can feet around 10 individuals.
According to the locals, the spring emanates from rock crevices.
The spring’s presence shows that there might be a nearby
volcano. After dipping on the spring, you can then take a cold bath
on the rapids and pools of Hungduan river. Its waters are crystal-
clear. They teem with endemic marine species such as small
fishes, eels, and crabs. The best time to come here is during the
summer months for one to enjoy the full beauty of the river.
5. Guinaang Village (Pasil)
Province: Kalinga

This is one of the historical tourist spots in Kalinga.


During the Philippine-American War, the village served as Gen.
Emilio Aguinaldo’s retreat haven. His stay, however, did not last
long. The Americans continued to pursue him until he was
finally caught somewhere in Isabela. Besides being historical,
the village offers a rustic life in the hinterlands. The people here
are kind and hospitable. Plus, it rewards one with fascinating
views of rice terraces and mountains.

6. Humuyyo Falls
Province: Mt. Province

This is considered as the tallest falls in Bontoc. Located


at barangay Talubin, Humuyyo falls measures more than 35
meters high. Its icy-cold waters come from the mossy forests
upstream. To get here, one must hike for about 30 minutes,
passing across rice paddies and crossing a brook for a number of
times. The falls has no pool for swimming. So, visitors can simply
position at its base while its waters provide a soothing massage.
This is a perfect locals’ getaway since it is just near the capital
town of Bontoc.
