We are entering Camfil Farr office.

We arrived at camfil farr at 2.30 pm. The weather is good. We were


greeted by the representative at the front gate. Then we were taken to the
meeting room for some briefing and introduction about the company and its
operation. The briefing was done by Mr. Joan, the managing director.

The company was started as a family business from Sweden. The


company were built at Perak at 2003. Camfil was from Sweeden, and Farr was
from United States. Then, Camfill company bought Farr company, then Camfill
Farr was formed.

Camfil Farr is no 1 filter company in the world. They concern about how
good they produced their filter, low pressure loss and cost to make the filter.
Their focused areas are energy efficiency, indoor air quality, green products,
employees and continuous improvement. They also recognized and awarded by
ISO14001, ISO 9001, OSHAS 18001 and etc.

7. Dust collector

After the briefing, we were taken for a tour in their factory. The person in
charge for our tour is Mr.Karu. Camera is restricted during visit. Therefore, we
cannot include picture in the factory.

There are several sections in the factory. The first section is the Activated
Carbon filter. We were required to enter the airlock because the section is a
100K clean room. The activated carbon comes in rolls. The activated carbon
filter is consists of 4 layers which consist of 3 type of different type of activated
carbon. There are about 15 people working in this section.

The second section is for HEPA filter making. It is also a 100K clean room.
The Hepa filter is makes from fiber with different type and grade. There are also
comes in rolls. All the finished filter is tested one by one in this factory with its
custom machine which only Camfil Farr has it. The machines can detects leak,
pressure drop, and efficiency. Only leak can be repair while if the filter does not
meet the required pressure or efficiency, the filter will be dispose. The leak can’t
be seen with naked eyes and a machine will repaired it by using special glue.
Only a certain size of leak can be repair.

The third section is for pre-filter, primary and secondary filter. This section
does not require an airlock because it is done in an open space.

The last section is the Dust Collector. This section is not 100% finished but
there are some small amount of dust collector is produce here. The dust collector
consists of 4 type filter in one case. The filter is round filter. The filter is used in
several places such as wood factory and etc.

All the filter material was imported. It is because the company want to
make sure the filter meet their corporate standard. Only for material like wood or
aluminium were bought from local places.

Camfil Farr was very pleased with our visit and hope that more activities like this
can be done between Camfil Farr and Unikl.

As all of us know, filtrations system is one of most important element in


HVAC field. One of the subjects in Air Conditioning and Industrial Refrigeration is
Indoor Air Quality that is related to this visit. From this visit, we learned that the
types of dust are more important than the amount of dust. We also learned that
not only we need to filter the air, but some combination of dust or element can
be explosives if combined and we should take note about it in our studies.
Furthermore, dust is really risky to our health.
We were fortunate to have this opportunity to visit Camfil Farr because we
learned a lot from this visit. We suggest that more activities like this can be held
in the future to further helped student gain and improves their knowledge’s
about filtrations system especially.
