STEP #1 Create a new folder and rename it “08_Seatwork 1”.

STEP #2 Start the STAAD Pro program by double clicking the icon or right clicking on the
icon and left click “Open”.

STEP #3 Click on “New Project”.


STEP #4 In the New Model frame,
select “Plane”, Rename the file
name to “08_Seatwork 1”,
navigate the save location to
the folder we made earlier
named “08_Seatwork 1” and
double check the Length Units
and the Force Units then click
“Next”.

STEP #5 In the Where do you


want to go? Frame, select
“Add Beam” and click “Finish”.
STEP #6 The
project will
begin in the
Geometry
section under
the Modeling
tab.

Close the Snap Node/Beam frame by clicking the “X” button. This will then remove
the default grid automatically on the Whole Structure frame.

STEP #7 On the Nodes frame, we will input the coordinates


of our nodes where our beam position will depend.
The Whole Structure Frame will now show the nodes from the coordinates we input on the Nodes frame.

STEP #8 Press “Alt + G” or look for the Geometry tab along the tool box at the top of the
program. Click on Add Beam and select Add Beam from Point to Point.
STEP #9 Click on the nodes on the Whole Structure tab and connect them to the other

nodes like so.

STEP #10 After the beam’s position is placed under the Geometry section, we will now
click the General section to go there located just beside the Geometry section and by
default, we will be on the Property section. The Properties – Whole Structure will now
appear at the lower right part of the program.
STEP #11 Click the Define button on the Properties – Whole Structure frame. Once
clicked, the Property frame will appear.

Select the
Tapered I property and input the values you needed. Select Add after the input is
complete and the close the frame

STEP #13 You will see the property


has been added under the Section
tab in the Properties – Whole
Structure frame. Click on the
property you want and click the
Assign button.

After

clicking the Assign button on the Properties – Whole Structure frame, you may now
select the beams you want to add the property to by simply clicking on them.

STEP #15 Under the General Section, we will now switch to the Support section below it.
Do this by clicking on the Support section. We will see the Support – Whole Structure
frame appear at the lower right part of the program. Click on the Create button to
begin creating the support properties.
STEP #16 The Create Support frame will now appear. In this seatwork, we will be
needing a pin-type and a roller-type support. In order to do that, click on the Pinned
tab and click the add button. Then, we will click on the Create button again and this
time we will select the Fixed But tab and select the checkboxes for Fx, Fz, Mx, My, Mz for
our roller-type support and click Add button.
STEP #17 We will now see the supports added in the Support – Whole Structure frame.
Now select the support you want to add and click the Assign button.

Now you may click on the nodes that you want to apply the support to as shown.
STEP #18 Now that we’re done on the supports, let’s now go to the Load & Definition
section right beside the Support section. We will now see the Load & Definition frame
appear at the right side of the program.
STEP #19 On the Load & Definition frame, click the ADD button and you will see the Add
New : Load Cases frame appear. Click on the Add button after that.
STEP #20 You will now see the LOAD CASE 1 under
the Load Cases Details. Click the LOAD CASE 1
and click the ADD button. After clicking the ADD
button, Add New : Load Items frame will appear.
Click the Uniform Force under the Member Load
option and input the value of the force you need.
Once done, click on the ADD button and exit the
frame.
STEP #21 Now you will see the loads added under the LOAD CASE 1. Click on the load
you want to apply and click the Assign button. After that you may now click on the
beams on the Whole Structure frame where you want to apply the loads.
STEP #22 After applying the loads, we may now move to the Material section right
beside the Load & Definition section. We will see the Material - - Whole Structure frame
at the lower right part of the program. Click on the material you want and click the
Assign button and click the beam on the Whole Structure frame where you want to
apply the material to.

STEP #23 Now all we have to do is let the program analyze our data. We do that by
switching to the Analysis/Print Section under the Modeling tab. The Analysis/Print
Commands frame will appear and under the Perform Analysis section, we will toggle
the No Print option under the Print Option and click the Add button. We will see the
PERFORM ANALYSIS appear in the Analysis – Whole structure frame at the left part of the
program. Exit the Analysis/Print Commands frame.
STEP #24 Press “Ctrl + F5” or click the Analyze tab along the toolbox at the top of the
program. The program will ask you to save the file and just click the Save button and
proceed. The STAAD Analysis and Design frame will appear and perform the analysis. It
will show if there is an error on your data and if not you may proceed in toggling the Go
to Post processing Mode and click Done button.
STEP #25 The Results Setup frame will now appear and just proceed to clicking the OK
button.
Select the Beam section under the Postprocessing tab to see the results.
