especially those who very close to our heart.

My humble effort I dedicate to my sweet and loving students, Grade 8 Maple


specifically to my clientele, Reniel Serran Regacho.

I wholeheartedly dedicate this also to my family, whose affection, love,


encouragement, and prays of day and night make me able to get such success and
honor along with all hard working and respected teachers and above all, to our
Almighty God.

Case Study: “Influence of teacher factors on students’ academic education”

Background Information of Clientele

Reniel Serran Regacho is a thirteen year-old who


enjoys playing basketball and playing online games. He does
not like art activities or large crowds. Reniel has a good
sense of humor but he can be irritable. He is fearful around
new people and may become quiet and more reserved in
those situations. Reniel is so jolly and handsome, of course
and he is not the typical student that we usually know in
school because he is different. He enjoys reading and his
favorite subject is Science. According to Reniel, he dislikes
writing. Most of his writing is simple sentences with a great
deal of grammatical errors and little detail. He also struggles
with the strategies that his teacher doing during lecture. He
hates boring class, he makes him so dull, he said.

Moreover, Reniel is a slightly grown student with a


one side wave black hair and dark eyes yet he is a smart boy.
Reniel is interesting to converse with and stayed on-task for
long periods during these one-on-one situations. Reniel has
a behavior; actually he’s doing a fucking sign when he is
scolded or bullied. His classmate called him “biik” because of
its height and chubbiness.

At home, Reniel said that, he is just like a typical boy living in a good and well
family. He was doing his responsibilities on his house and actually he is the only one
boy and he has only one sister. He said also that he is so lucky to have his parents
because he lives in a peaceful, natural and normal family.

At school, Reniel has a good academic performance except in science. He is


blaming his teacher for his poor performance in the said subject yet he is doing his
best to be on top. According to the school, Reniel is a very good student even he’s
not in the room of star section. It is given that Reniel has a very good academic
performances but it is pulled down by the major subject which is the science subject.

Generally, Reniel had a history of impulsiveness, compulsiveness and over-


focusing. Reniel appeared to always be self-stimulating, liked to put things together,
is a good sleeper and had a good memory. He was a “sweet boy”, initiating the
process of giving others whatever they wanted as if to maintain a sense of control.

Diagnosis

 A poor academic performance specifically is science subject like quiz,


assignment, periodical examination and attendance.

Actors and Agencies Involved

The results of the study will be of great benefit of the following:

1. Students – This study will provide information regarding Influence of teacher


factors on students’ academic education and to know what are the reasons why
students absent in a class.

2. Principal and Teachers – This study will improve the school performance and it
addresses the principal and teachers to be more concerned to their students.

3. School – This study aims also to inform the school to address the learners to
reinforce a very good back up to those learners who have a low performance or
achievements in a particular subject matter.

4. Parents – This study also addresses the parents in which it will give them a report,
suggestions or even a guide on the improvements of the students and also their
strengths or weaknesses in a certain subject matter.

5. Others – This study also aims to inform everyone’s achievements or performance


of a student or the school.

Challenges that Encounter/Action and Changes make

The student that I am observing for my case study was a very


imaginative student in our classroom. I believe this because I can say one word to
this student and he can come up with a whole story just from that word. When he
works one-on-one with a teacher, he was very cooperative and polite. I recently
noticed that if a fellow classmate were struggling with a particular concept, he
would try to give them hints towards the answer. There are quite a few patterns of
behavior that have been interfering with this students’ school success. The one that I
would like to focus on for this case study was this students’ aggressive behavior, the

In order to prevent this behavior from occurring and harming the other
students in our class, I have pulled this student out prior to large group activities to
work one-on-one with me. During these times he was working with educational
material, he was not just playing. What my cooperating teacher and myself I have
noticed from this behavior was that he was completely different student in this
atmosphere. What I mean by this is that when he has the full attention of the
teacher, he was very polite, he will cooperate with the teacher and he was very
helpful. When he was engaged, he will work hard on whatever the task was and
contribute in a meaningful way. The reason I believe this intervention was effective
for this student and helps to decrease his aggressive behavior; it was because there
are times that he becomes aggressive in order to gain attention of either his peers or
a teacher. For example, during a group discussion he will call out answers and my
mentor will ask him not to do this. After she tells him this he resorts to hitting her
neighbor. By giving this student a teacher’s full attention, he no longer needs to
resort to acts of aggression.

In regards to Influence of teacher factors on students’ academic education


and absenteeism, I have interviewed him one-on-one. He has very good academic
performances except in science which is the subject the he love the most. He said
that, he is not interested in the teacher. He loved science but not the teacher. He
feels bored because the teacher always talking about its history or stories and not
the subject matter, he added. When the teacher came either the teacher will tell a
same story or the teacher will give an activity or they just have write information’s
into their notebook. When they have quiz the teacher will give the answers that
makes the subject boring and uninteresting. He started to hate the subject, he said
and actually he’s not motivated to attend into the class regularly.

Yet he is thankful because I am there as their Student-teacher. He diverts this


thinking to its original thinking and I am pleased also to him to love science because
science is very fascinating subject. It is the last quarter of the school year and I don’t
want him to hate science and that’s why I device something new strategies that his
former science teacher lack of it. I make the class student-centered lecture and
making sure that they have a conducive learning environment. I make teaching
proficiency learnable and for an effective teaching a lessons I take students seriously
as individuals with knowledge, language skills and experience. In designing lessons I
have make sure to inclined with the knowledge, skills, abilities, and attitudes
because I believe that teaching profession is a teacher who are open to experience,
learn from errors, seek and learn from feedback from students and who foster
effort, clarity and engagement in learning.

Result of Changes

The results were, Reniel still loved science and he find it fascinating subject
because of the strategies that was applied. He was also motivated to come to school
and showed a passion and eagerness to study very well. The academic performance
of my student that I was observing became very good in all subjects but the given
negative result was teacher factors had an influence on students’ academic
performance.

To support the positive changes of my clientele, the activities that I gave him
in the beginning to be honest it was very poor performance and before I came to
teach as a student teacher I have seen his records in science and it was really poor.
The attendance was so really annoying he absent many times and the previous quiz
and examinations were really not good base on the record of his former teacher.
When I came to teach I have seen his eagerness to go to school he even showed to
me the passion of being a student and I witness him to grow and become an
educated student. He fascinatingly came to school and he always makes sure all the
activities in the school were done very well. The performance of my clientele
became satisfactory because of a new presence of teacher and that can be support
and seen in the activities of my clientele.
