Learning Outcome 1A: Curriculum and Instruction

Artifact Description and Rationale

While going through this course, I was looking at what would best fit this learning

outcome. I thought it would be best to pull my final paper from C&T 709 Foundations of

Curriculum and Instruction. My final paper is my philosophy of curriculum.

For the assignment, I had to complete my philosophy of curriculum. ​My

philosophy of curriculum consists of three parts. Parts I and II will be continuations of

my Response Papers 1 and 2 from the course. Part III synthesizes this learning and

describes my orientation to (or beliefs about) curriculum.

For Part I, I drew from response paper #1 where I compared and contrasted two

theorists. In Part II, I had to describe a curriculum issue on which I take a stance. Part III

of my philosophy of curriculum, I provided a framework for my philosophy of curriculum.

The learning outcome states: “1A. Curriculum and Instruction.​ ​Demonstrate

understanding of basic concepts and processes of curriculum and instruction (theories,

planning models, current trends) and how they connect to your context.” I understand

this as simply understanding different theories, the background of each, and current

trends in education. This artifact pairs well with this learning outcome because within
this course, I had to study various theorists and the theories associated with them.

Within this artifact, I also had the opportunity to apply my knowledge of theories,

planning models, and current trends in education to create my own framework for my

own philosophy of curriculum. Of course, as time goes on, ​I fully believe that my

ideologies and beliefs will evolve as new research comes out and as I experience more

in the classroom and school, and overall community.

I based my framework on ideas presented by theorists encountered in the

course, and I had the opportunity to discuss in my own terms why I have chosen the

curricular orientation that I have. I have also included examples from my own practice

that discuss how successfully I have been able to implement my beliefs.
