Let the students recall about Grade 8 concepts on expressing perfect square
trinomial as square of binomial and determining a number to be added to the terms of
polynomial to make it a perfect square trinomial.
 Let the students work in groups with at most 5 members. Team Orals : Activity # 2

“Make it Perfect”.

B. Established a purpose for the lesson

The purpose of this lesson is to solve quadratic equations by completing the
square.
C. Presenting Examples/Discussing New Concepts
 Introduce solving quadratic equations by completing the square.
𝑥 2 + 4𝑥 = 12 b. 𝑥 2 − 𝑥 − 20 = 0 c. 2𝑥 2 − 8𝑥 = 64
 Allow the students to follow the step by step procedures in solving quadratic
equations by completing the square.

D. Developing Mastery
 By working in pairs, provide practice exercise in finding the solutions of
quadratic equations by completing the square.
𝑎. 𝑥 2 − 2𝑥 = 3 𝑏. 𝑥 2 + 4𝑥 − 21 = 0

E . Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living

 The shaded region of the diagram below shows the portion of a square-
shaped car park that is already cemented. The area of the cemented part is
88𝑚2 . Find the length of a side of the car park by writing a quadratic
equation that represent the area of the shaded region and solve by
completing the square.

G. Evaluating learning
Find the solutions by completing the square.
1. 𝑥 2 + 6𝑥 = −8
2. 𝑥 2 − 18𝑥 = −45
H. Additional Activities for Remediation/Application
 Solve by completing the square.
1. 𝑡 2 − 6𝑡 + 5 = 0 2. 2𝑥 2 − 10𝑥 = 72

V. REFLECTIONS
- 21 learners of SPS 9-1, 12 learners of SPS 9-2, and 20 learners of BEP 9-18 earned 75%
on the formative assessment.
- Processing student’s questions and queries help them to thoroughly understand what
is being meant.
- Respecting student’s point of view is very much needed inside the classroom. They will do
the same thing to their fellow students.
