DIREÇÃO DE ARTE
Definição da função
Um diretor de arte, na estrutura hierárquica de um departamento de arte
cinematográfica, trabalha diretamente com o designer de produção, em
colaboração com o decorador de cenários e os cenógrafos;
São responsáveis por coordenador o departamento de arte, acompanhando o
orçamento e a programação do departamento (ou seja, cronograma de
preparação / envolvimento), bem como o controle de qualidade geral;
São a ligação para outros departamentos; especialmente os de construção, FX,
propriedade, transporte (gráficos) e locais especiais;
O diretor de arte também participa de todas as reuniões de produção e técnicas
para garantir o cumprimento da planta visual de cada locação.

Definição da função
No passado, o título de diretor de arte era usado para designar o chefe do
departamento de arte (daí o Oscar de Melhor Direção de Arte), que também incluía
o decorador do cenário;
Agora, o prêmio inclui o designer de produção e o decorador de cenários.
No filme “E o Vento Levou”, David O. Selznick achou que William Cameron Menzies
tinha um papel tão significativo na aparência do filme, que “diretor de arte” do título
não era suficiente e então deu a Menzies o título de designer de produção.

Definição da função
O título tornou-se mais comum, e agora o designer de produção é comumente
usado como título para o chefe do departamento de arte, embora o título realmente
implique o controle sobre todos os aspectos visuais de um filme, incluindo figurinos;
Em filmes com departamentos de arte menores, como pequenos filmes
independentes e curtas-metragens, os termos "designer de produção" e "diretor de
arte" são frequentemente sinônimos, e a pessoa que assume o papel também pode
ser creditada.
