1.0 Introduction

This engineering standard gives details about the minimum requirements for configuration and format
of engineering drawings produced in AutoCAD. This standard assumes a certain degree of AutoCAD
user familiarity and expertise with personal computer systems. Knowledge of standard personal
computer usage is therefore assumed.

References made to other standards throughout this standard are numbered inside square brackets [ ]
and may be found in the Bibliography of section (13).

AutoCAD Release 2006 is the QP latest standard version at this issue Rev D of this standard. Other
versions of AutoCAD may be used subject to the approval from the custodian of this standard. Note that
previous version of AutoCAD (Refer Document change History (Page 3) may still be in use.

This fact depends on the actual start of the project and the applicable QP AutoCAD standard issued at
that time.

It should be observed by QP recipients of AutoCAD native file deliverables that older versions of
AutoCAD drawings can still be accepted taking into account the above. Due to upward compatibility of
AutoCAD consideration shall be made at this time to “save as” and then prompt utilising the applicable
QP latest release of AutoCAD.

2.0 Custodianship

The Custodian of this standard is EE, who is responsible for the accuracy and quality of its contents and
for its future revisions, where these are required to reflect industry trends or changes to QP business
practices.

3.0 Purpose

The purpose of this standard is to ensure that QP and any Consultant or Contractor provides AutoCAD
drawings produced in an agreed single standard manner. This standard guides users to the minimum
configuration and standard requirements. AutoCAD users shall also refer to [1].

4.0 Application

Personnel engaged in the development of AutoCAD drawings for or on behalf of the Corporation shall
apply this standard.

A written request must be submitted to the custodian of this document prior to creating data in the
format other than those specified in this document. This includes AutoCAD add-on applications which
leave non-native objects in the drawings. This also applies to AutoCAD-integrated applications, such as
Architectural Desktop. When it is considered in the best interest of Qatar Petroleum, third party
software may be permitted. All third party software used which modifies or cerates layers in AutoCAD
shall adhere to the layering requirements as set in this standard.

5.0 AutoCAD Drawing Setup

All drawings shall be drawn in model space.

ES.0.01.0015
Revision D
Page 5
5.2 Drawing Scales

The following Dimensional drawings (but not limited to) shall be drawing to true size(1:1), orientation
and location i.e. all drawing elements shall be drawn to the exact dimensions of the object they
represent:

• Architectural Plans
• Mechanical Plans
• Electrical Plans
• Plumbing Plans
• Structural Plans
• Civil Plans
• Site Plans
• Topographical Drawings
• Environmental and Landscaping Drawings
• Details
• Sections
• Elevations

5.3 Geographical Related Drawings

All drawings containing geographic data such as plot plans, layouts, GA's, Pipeline Alignment Sheets,
topographic drawings, civil works, survey drawings, location plans, etc. shall be drawn in model space
in Qatar National Grid for onshore facilities and in Qatar Nahrwan Datum for offshore facilities. But the
paper plots shall be prepared on layouts with view ports displaying geographic data in the model space.
If the paper plots of the drawing extend to several sheets (See 5.4) , the entire drawings shall be in the
model space of a single drawing file and multiple sheets for plotting shall be prepared on multiple
layouts.

Title Blocks, Border, Grids, Text, North Arrow, Scale Bar, etc. shall be drawn on the layouts only. In
the case of a drawing extending to several sheets, an overview drawing shall be on a separate view port
in each layout showing the part of the drawing being shown in the main view port. All view ports shall
be drawing on Layer VPORT (See App A)

5.4 Multiple Drawing Per File

Multiple drawings may occur in a single file, but only where they are drawn on top of one another in
model space and viewports are used to display different layers to generate each drawing sheet in a
different layout. Each drawing sheet shall be on a different layout. The title blocks shall reside in paper
space. Drawings laid next to each other in the same drawing space are not acceptable.

5.5 Xref Assembly

Externally referenced files (Xref) are not required, but may be used for production of drawings. Xrefs
shall be on “X-ref “ layer. On final submittal of drawings Xrefs shall not be attached to drawing files
but be bound to the host drawings to create a “Read Only” file.

5.6 Image and Graphic Files

Image and Graphic files shall be restricted for use as Company Logos and referenced pictorial
images that have no relation to technical design elements of the drawing file. All such images
shall be inserted and embedded (not linked) in the drawing file.

6.7 Plot Configuration (Con’t)

All engineering drawings shall be plotted on either Extents or Limits parameter.

6.8 Layers, Colours, and Line types

All objects or entities are always drawn in a layer. It may be the default layer or a QP customised layer.
QP customised layers are associated with the colour, line type and line weight.

Layers can be created for each required grouping, colours and line types assigned to those layers shall
be in accordance to Appendix A. Standard borders are already associated with some of the layers with
assigned colour and line types. Any number of objects and layers can have the same colour number.

The user can specify the line type scale for objects. The smaller the scale values, the more repetitions
of the pattern are generated per drawing unit. For QP standard borders [1], the line type scale factor is
set to a default of 12.
