Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan was founded by Kulapati Dr. K M Munshi in the year 1938. The
founder members of the Bhavan included Late Dr Rajendra Prasad, Shri C Rajagopalachari,
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel & several distinguished scholars,
statesman & leaders of modern Indian Renaissance. From a small beginning Bhavan has
grown into an internationally reputed intellectual cultural & educational movement with
112 Centers, of which 7 are located abroad.

While carrying out summer project and internship, the students of last batch have made
praiseworthy impression in the industry. In addition to their course curriculum and beside
exposing them to the current state of affairs in business through seminars, industry visits
and workshop, students have gone through personality development and soft skill
programmes to groom to be the best-of-the breed managers.
Like every year I would eagerly look forward to another batch of enthusiastic students to
carry forward the legacy of SIMS.
The institute conducts 2-year Full-Time MBA Programme under the West Bengal
University of Technology and is approved by AICTE. The foundation stone of the Institute
was laid by His Excellency Viren J. Shah in 2000, then Governor of West Bengal. The
Institute has received constant patronage and recognition from eminent academicians
and corporate heads in different fields. Apart from theoretical and case study oriented
classroom interactions, students have the best of exposure in the corporate field through
interesting seminars, panel discussions, industry visits and interactions with corporate
seniors.
The arena for exposing the students with real life issues are conducted through, the 2
most popular seminars held every year namely "n Vision" and "Disha". Eminent panelists
from industry and academicia attend these seminars and share their views on
contemporary issues of business interest and current trend in management. Students get
a first hand touch of corporate intelligentsia and an opportunity to interact with stalwarts.
Industry visits are arranged every year for the students so as to gather 1st hand
knowledge of practical expose in witness the management of production, distribution and
sales processes.
The Institute is always in quest of further perfection and excellence and inspires its
students to look beyond the horizon.
About Our Programme
Bhavan's Institute of Management Science runs Two-Year Full Time MBA Programme
affiliated to the West Bengal University of Technology. It is approved by the All India
Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India and Department
of Higher Education (Technical Education), Govt. of West Bengal.
The 1st and 2nd Semesters contain core subjects. In the 3rd and 4th Semesters, students
have to specialize in a particular field of Management. To make the students better
equipped to handle the ever-changing business world, dual specialization is offered.
Students are required to select 3 courses from one area (Major Specialization) and one
course from a different area {Minor Specialization) in the 3rd and 4th Semesters.
The Institute aims at grooming young energetic minds to make them best suited for the
Industry. It provides an all round development of the students so that not only do they
have a sound theoretical knowledge but also practical competence. The Institute lays
emphasis on project work, case studies, periodic visits to industries and participation in
seminars/panel discussions for enhancement of managerial skills.
Teaching Methodology
Classroom Learning is meant primarily for theoretical and conceptual inputs. Faculty from
diverse areas of specialization and corporate heads was frequently invited to interact with
the students. Books and periodicals from National and International sources complement
classroom lectures. Emphasis is laid on use of audio -visual a ids and software packages.
Case Studies are generously used in classroom interactions to expose the students to real
life issues of business problems. The decision making under 'real life' conditions imparts
that managerial skills in the students this keeping them to develope beyond not confined
to any theory only. The summer project, which forms a part of the curriculum gives the
students the opportunity to work in the industry for 6-8 weeks or more.
Library
The Institute boasts of an excellent library containing all necessary titles of text and
reference books. There is also a wide collection of magazine and periodicals covering
current affairs and other specialized subjects. The stock and services of the library aims at
improving intellectual content of post graduate students, researchers, public and private
sector managers, professional groups and academics. In addition to regular services,
lending of reference work and facility of photocopying, the library is having membership
of British Council Library (BCL) and American Information Resource Centre (AIRC).
Students are motivated to conduct and organise seminars & participate in various
managerial contest to prove their zeal. This grooms them with an overall development to
face any managerial crisis.
Computer Centre
The Institute has a sophisticated Computer Centre with a large number of PCs with multi-
terminal facilities and assortment of management oriented software packages. It is
designed to provide adequate support for computer education. Resources include high-
end IBM servers, HCL servers, thin clients, workstations and printers. The Institute offers
24 hours internet facility which is available for department use on campus network based
on gigabit Ethernet structured cabling through high speed bandwidth. External
networking through internet is available and students can avail net E-mail facilities for
educational use. Hands-on practical sessions are part of the curriculum and compulsory
for all students. The Centre also provides Management Development Programmes on
computer application.
Unique Timing
The Institute operates from 1.00 P.M. to 7.30 P.M. from Tuesday to Saturday. The timing
facilitates ample time for industry-student interactions as practicing managers from
leading industries in theh city deliver lecture beyond their office hours.
Admission Procedure
The Institute admits students on the basis of their Performance in the MAT, conducted by
AlMA, followed by Group Discussion and Personal Interview. The minimum cut off
percentile in such exam is decided by the Institute.
University Registration and Examination Fees to be paid separately. Fees once paid ore not
refundable under any circumstances.
