Geographical Location and Land area

The City of Lucena is the capital of Quezon Province. Lucena is encircled by several municipalities
of Quezon Province. It is bounded on the north and northeast by the Municipality of Pagbilao, on the
south and southeast by the Tayabas Bay, on the southwest by the Municipality of Sariaya, and on the
northwest by the City of Tayabas.

Topograpic and Physiographic Features

Lucena City represents 9.6% of the province which has an approximately 8,402.66 hectares of land
area. Lucena City is composed of a total of 33 barangays which is eleven (11) of it are classified as urban;
six (6) as sub-urban, eleven (11) as rural and five (5) as coastal barangays.

Lucena is situated on a flat terrain with slightly rolling hills as it is being outskirt of Mt. Banahaw and
along the coastal plain of Tayabas Bay. Most of the land area has a slope of zero to three percent (0-3%) level
to lightly slope. The city is wedged between two big rivers which are the Iyam River in the western part which
has an abundant deposit of gravel and sand and the Dumacaa River in the eastern part, which abounds with
boulders. The city also has a total of eleven (11) rivers and nine (9) creeks that serve as the natural drainage of
the city.

Climate

Climate in Lucena City is characterized as no dry season with a pronounced maximum rain period that
occurs from October to January. It is classified as type III climate based on modified corona classification.
Temperature ranges from 17.5 degrees centigrade to 35 degrees centigrade.
Soil Fertility

Lucena city has a six soil types namely: Buguey Loamy Sand, Guadalupe Clay Loam, Ibaan Loam, Ibaan Silt
Clay Loam, Macolod Clay Loam, and the Hydrosoil. Five of these soil types could be planted with different
crops, including coconut and rice varieties. The Buguey Loamy Sand yields the highest for coconut trees at
3,400 nuts per hectare per year.

Project Site

The project site for the proposed College of Agriculture, Aquatic Sciences and Forestry is to be
located in Lucena Botanical Garden situated in Ibabang Dupay which is one of the barangay in Lucena City.
It has a total land area 49,217.98 square meters and it will be used for the construction of the
department’s buildings, mini farm land and fishpond. The site is bounded on the North-east by a private
lots; on the East by a street (PNB Street) connected to a four lane main road (Enverga Blvd); and Dumacaa
River on its West side. Near the vicinity are residential houses, MSEUF Swimming Pool and MSEUF Main
Campus.
