Graphic Organizer Assignment: Mechanisms of Evolution.

Read these directions and the guidelines for your organizer before you start!

1. Go to: https://evolution.berkeley.edu/evolibrary/article/evo_14.
You should be starting on a page titled “Mechanisms: the process of evolution.”
2. You will be using a web-based tool called Popplet to create a concept map of the
reading. Go to http://popplet.com/app/#/home and create a free account if you do not
already have one.

3. Create a Popplet and title it [your name] Evolution: Mechanisms. Select a color of your
choice and you are ready to start your graphic organizer! Double click in the middle of
the page and it will give you your first popple. Type “Mechanisms of Evolution” in this
box.
4. As you read, build your graphic organizer. The following pages are required, and you
should have at least two popples added to your organizer for each page.
• Descent with modification
• Mechanisms of change
• Genetic variation
• Mutations
• The causes of mutations
• Sex and genetic shuffling
• Natural Selection
• Natural Selection at work

You may include more pages if you want to but they are not required.
Guidelines:

• Your organizer must include at least 25 entries.

• At least 10 boxes need to contain a definition or a short paraphrase of an example from
the reading.
• Each required page must be represented in your organizer.
• You must use at least 4 colors of boxes, in a way that helps show the organization of
your chart or different types of boxes. Example: different colors for different topics,
different colors for different levels of information, etc.
• Your organizer should be as organized and easy to read as possible.
• Make connections between different sections of the map where appropriate.
