co-founded a company called Re:Source fitness that put out the first Plugout Spin Bikes and

Ellipticals. But the green fitness market wasn’t quite ready in 2010 to support an early stage
startup, and Plugout stopped offering equipment in 2011.
The Green Microgyms use about 85% less electricity and their carbon footprint is about one tenth
that of a traditionally run gym, per square foot. A member of The Green Microgym saves about ¼
ton of carbon compared to if they belonged to a traditional gym.
The UpCycle Echocharger is a way to turn almost any bicycle into a pedal generator, by
swapping out the back wheel and putting it up on a stand. The Ecocharger has been sold all over
the world, and even set a World Record with the help of Chevrolet at the 2015 Pan Am Games.
After the UpCycle Ecocharger came The Green Microcycle, an electric bike that is also a pedal
generator.
n 2014, Adam sold the 2 gyms he was running, The Green Microgym Alberta and The Green
Microgym Sellwood, so he could focus on continuing to build The Green Microgym as The World
Leader in Eco Fitness through green gym consulting, sales of Green Fitness Equipment, and
helping others start their own green gym.

Embership of gym

All gym memberships are month-to-month, there are no long-term contracts. There is
no risk! You’ll have 5 days to cancel with a full refund if you’re not satisfied.

 Equipped with retrofitted ellipticals and spin bikes that convert your energy to
electricity and “plug out” into the building!
 he world’s first and only (as far as we know) gym with the goal of generating
as much electricity as we consume!
 3000 square foot neighborhood gym located in the heart of the Belmont
district with cardio, weights, personal training and a friendly atmosphere
The Green Microgym Belmont offers its members a green gym with a friendly,
community feel. We are located right in your neighborhood, so you can bike or walk
here. The most unique thing about our gym is that the actual energy of the members
helps power the building. It makes pretty good sense. You don’t need a ton of
energy-sucking machines to get a good workout. We are machines. You power your
workout. The energy bar one member just ate powers the ceiling fan for the next
three hours. Another member’s morning scramble is doing its part to keep the lights
on. Every revolution on the elliptical is churning pure electricity back to the
grid. Calories are converted into precious watts. You power your gym. Friends and
neighbors, sweating it out together, all in the name of feeling good: about
themselves, about their community, about their gym and about the world.

Intro
The Green Microgym and Plugout Technology were invented by Adam Boesel, a school teacher
turned personal trainer who started up his first gym in Portland, Oregon in 2008. While writing a
business plan for his gym, he thought, “Wouldn’t it be great if the members could make electricity
when they are exercising?” He found although there was a lot of speculation and experimentation
about the idea, no one had started up a gym with Eco Fitness as their central focus.
Adam started searching for a way to convert exercise machines into power generators and
connect them to the grid. Several prototypes later, and with the support of a lot of patient and
supportive members, he designed the first spin bike retrofit that is grid tied by simply plugging
“out” into a normal wall outlet. His design made it easy for anyone to convert their energy into
electricity and help power their building.
A member of The Green Microgym saves about ¼ ton of carbon compared to if they belonged to
a traditional gym.
