Guidelines of special conditions for entrance into the Postgraduate
Programme Renewable Energy (PPRE) in English at the Carl von
Ossietzky University Oldenburg
§ 1 Admission
1. For the Postgraduate Programme Renewable
Energy, 25 applicants are admitted per each
course. This number is applicable to change
with an exceptional reason. The change is
based on the decision of the faculty. Such a
resolution must take place before the cut-off
period (§ 2).
2. The selection is made each year by October
1st (date of admission).
§ 2 Cut-Off Period
1. Applications for the Postgraduate
Programme Renewable Energy must be
submitted with the necessary documents (given
in sections § 3 and §4) to the University of
Oldenburg in which the study is to be taken up
by January 15th.
2. The University of Oldenburg determines the
form of application for admission as well as
which enclosures are to be attached.
§ 3 Admission Requirements
In order to be admitted into the Postgraduate
Programme Renewable Energy at the Carl von
Ossietzky University Oldenburg, the following
conditions must be fulfilled:
1. A qualified degree of at least a four-year
scientific or engineer-scientific study (for
instance with a BSc or Engineering degree) in
the following fields of activity:
a) Physics/Physics technology
b) Electro-technology
c) Mechanical engineering
d) or a field of activity, in which
comparable basic knowledge in
mathematics and physics as in the
courses of studies mentioned under a),
b) and c) have been acquired.
2. Alternative to 1: above average degrees of at
least a three-year scientific or engineer-
scientific study (for instance with a BSc
honours degree) in the fields of activity like 1
a) to d) and additional scientific achievements
such as publications or the proof of a further-
qualifying vocational activity.
3. Proof of English knowledge, as for the
scientific study in an English-language course
of studies is necessary (according to TOEFL
550 PAPERS based 550 or computers based
213).
4. At least a one-year professional activity i.e.
internship within the energy division is
preferred.
5. The suitability to the study presupposes a
technical and personal suitability of the
applicant to the study. The technical suitability
requires good, technically relevant
mathematics and physics knowledge, which
are to be proven by test results. The personal
suitability requires a strong interest in an
individual study emphasis of the master course
of studies, an accordingly high motivation and
special commitment which must be expressed
by the representation of a personal and
vocational career as well as a statement on the
motives for the intended admission of the
study and study emphasis and the goals aimed

For applications for admission from applicants
with degrees from 1 a) and b) the selection
committee determines the related fields of
activity, whether a permission is possible,
decides and determines individual cases and

§ 4 Selection Procedure
(1) If the number of applicants who fulfil the
conditions for admission exceeds the number
of applicants (§ 1), according to the following

1. Evaluation of the academic achievements of
the applicant in his/her final degree, whose
successful degree fulfils the conditions for
permission into the Postgraduate Programme
Renewable Energy, including topic tables of
the emphasis of specialization.

3. Evaluation of the technical achievements in
a professional activity after conclusion of the
degree under 1.

4. Evaluation of a detailed written reason for
the application by the applicant.

5. Evaluation of relevant recommendations or
appraisals through third parties.

The point number for each application results
from the average of the delivered points of the
individual selection committee members.
(2) The sequence for admission results from
the highest number of points reached by the
applicant. The list is to be arranged extensively
so that a sufficient number of applicants who
withdraw are seized. With the same number of
points, women are preferably admitted.
Otherwise the point equality is decided based
on social or regional criteria. If the commission
meets no agreement, the lot decides.
§ 5 Selection committee
(1) The selection committee evaluates the
applications available before the cut-off period
in accordance with § 4 paragraph 1, and
suggests to the president of the university those
applicants who are to be permitted.
(2) The following members belong to the
selection committee:
1. Two professors from the University of
Oldenburg, who administrate the Postgraduate
Program of Renewable Energy such as those
who are members of the mathematical-
scientific faculty.
2. The director of the Postgraduate Renewable
Energy Program.
3. A student who is possibly registered for the
master course of studies.
4. A scientific employee who administrates
activities in the master course of studies.
(3) The selection committee can invite
members of the University of Oldenburg or
guests of partner institutions to its meetings if
their expertise for the work of the selection
committee is helpful. The assessors are to keep
the information from the meetings confidential.
(4) The mathematical-scientific faculty can
give the rules of internal procedure to the
selection committee.
§6 Procedure for withdrawal from
admission
(1) Upon notice of admission, the Carl von
Ossietzky University of Oldenburg determines
a date, in which the applicant must be
registered in a master course of studies. If the
explanation of this date is not present, the
admittance notice becomes ineffective.
(2) Applicants who are not accepted will
receive a negative reply.
(3) If admission notices according to § 4 for
admitted applicants become ineffective, further
applicants can be admitted according to the
ranking list § 4, as long as the selection
committee appears upon appraisal of the
circumstances
(4) All notices of admission that are sent from
the Carl von Ossietzky University of
Oldenburg to applicants for the master course
of studies, will be issued in the English
language.
§ 7 Fees
(1) The postgraduate training for further master
course studies is chargeable in accordance with
the fee regulation standards at the Carl von
Ossietzky University of Oldenburg.
