I. COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed as fundamental course in the General Education Curriculum for tertiary education. It is
designed to help the students understand the nature of identity including factors that influence and shape personal
identity. This course is deals with a more critical and reflective attitude in exploring the issues and concerns of the self and
identity to better understand one’s self. The course is divided into three major parts: The first part seeks to understand the
self from various disciplinal perspectives such as philosophy, sociology, anthropology and psychology and a more
traditional division between east and west to achieve and provide an answer to the difficult but essential question of “What
is the Self?”
The second chapter deals with some of the various aspect that make up the self like the biological self, the spiritual
self, the political self and the digital self. The third and final chapter provides a discussion on some issues or concerns for
young students these days, which are learning, goal setting and dealing with stress.

The Special Integration Output is an Opportunity for Learners to appreciate further the Topics Discussed by relating
the theories learned to Ordinary/ Day to Day situations via an Integration Report Specially crafted by their Academic
Heads to better align Departmental/Institutional Goals and Objectives with the total Academic, Co, and Extra Curricular
Experience.
Alternately, students may opt for a comprehensive examination in lieu of the prepared SIO activity for the semester.
