Introduction

Listening is receiving language through the ears. It involves identifying the sounds of
speech and processing them into words and sentences. When we listen, we use our ears to
receive individual sounds such as letters, stress, rhythm and pauses and we use our brain to
convert these into messages that mean something to us. In order to get any information from the
listening activity, we need to work harder than others because it needs focus and attention.
Howatt and Dakin said that, listening is the ability to identify and understand what others are
saying. This involves understanding a speaker's accent or pronunciation, his grammar and his
vocabulary, and grasping his meaning.

Listening plays a crucial role in second language learning. It is the most important skill
and doesn’t happen automatically especially for us as a language learners. It is a skill that is
needs to be learned as much as possible in order to make us capable in this skill.

Listening became the struggle in learning English. This is because English is a second
language and we as an Indonesian people use Indonesian language every day because it’s our
native language. According to Rubin (1995), "For second language/foreign language learners,
listening is the skill that makes the heaviest processing demands because learners must store
information in short term memory at the same time as they are working to understand the
information" (p. 8). Furthermore, as she explains, "Whereas in reading learners can go over the
text at leisure, they generally don't have the opportunity to do so in listening" (p. 8). In order to
improve listening skill for us as a nonnative language, practicing everyday using Learn English
Listening Yobimi might help us to overcome this problem.
What is ‘Learn English Listening Yobimi’?

Learn English Listening Yobimi ESL is an application that is created by Yobimi group.
This app is best application for ESL to improve our English listening skill. Through this
application, we can learn English in a simple way. Why I call this in simple way? Because Learn
English Listening Yobimi is an application that can easily installed in our smartphone and we
can use it every time and everywhere. This app provides simple English conversations from BBC
Learning English Program 6 Minute English, English at work and The English We Speak.
Besides improving our listening skill, Learn English Listening Yobimi also can improve our
English grammar, speaking and also expand our English vocabulary.

Learn English Listening Yobimi provides some features to help us improve our skill. The
features are:

 8 categories from BBC Learning English Program with audio, Transcript, exercise and
quiz.

This app provides 8 categories from BBC Learning English. Each lesson comes with audio,
transcript, and vocabulary list that will help us to improve our English grammar, speaking and
expand our English vocabulary.

 Free download to use when you're offline.

Through this app, we can easily download the material when we are online, and can easily use it
when we are offline. For example, we can download it in school using WIFI and then when we
go home, we can use it offline without download it again.

 Support English Dictionary

This is the interesting feature in this app. We do not have to go out from this app when we want
to search the meaning of the words that are not familiar with us because this app also provide
dictionary on it.

 Chat with other English learners from all around the world.
Besides improving our listening skill by practicing everyday with BBC Learning English
program, we can also improve our English skill by chatting with other English learners from all
around the world. We can learn about English Grammar and practice our English speaking by
Voice Recognition when chatting.

 This app is Auto update new lessons.

We do not need to update this app manually because this app is auto update when there are new
lessons. Then, we will never miss new lessons.

Learn English Listening Yobimi provides some feature that can easily help us to improve our

First, we should install ‘Learn English Listening Yobimi’ from Play Store to our smartphone.

Second, after installed the application, open the application. We do not have to log in or register
first.

Third, choose the level that is appropriate to your level or ability.

And the last is, we can choose the material or the audio that we want.

Conclusion

This application is very useful for us to improving our skill in English especially for our
listening skill. Using this app every day might help us to improve listening skill and we will
capable in it. Moreover, this application provides the level from beginner, intermediate and
advanced. So we can choose the level that is suit to our ability or level. Therefore, this
application can be useful for us as the English learners.
