Netbackup and/or Media Manager use the following daemons/programs to keep everything

chugging along:

o Netbackup daemons/programs

Netbackup daemons/programs

Daemon/Program Description
bp Character based menu drive interface for user directed backups,
archives, and restores.
bpadm Character based menu driven interface for configuring and managing
Netbackup.
bparchive On UNIX clients, this program talks to bprd on the master server when a
user starts an archive.
bpbackup On UNIX clients, this program talks to bprd on the master server when a
user starts an archive.
bpbrm On UNIX servers, the Backup/Restore Manager manages the client and
Media Manager processes and uses error status from both to determine
the final status of backup/restore operations.
bpbkar Backup Archiver generates the backup images on UNIX clients excepting
Apollos.
bpcd Client daemon that allows Netbackup to kick off programs on remote
hosts without using a /.rhosts file.
bpdbjobs Cleans up the jobs database on master servers.
bpdbm Manages the configuration, error, and file databases on master servers.
bphdb Hot database backup program (Oracle hot-backup style)
bprd Responds to administrative and client requests for the restores, backups,
archives, lists of archived/backed up files and manual immediate
backups.
bplist Talks to bprd to supply a list of files that are backed up for specific
schedules/classes, etc.
bprestore Talks to bprd when a user starts a restore operation.
bpsched Uses class information from the Netbackup confguration databases on
the master server to determine which clients to backup and when to start
them and which storage units to use.
bptm Tape media manager used on master/slave servers and is used when the
storage unit type is Media Manager. Manages the transfer of images
between the client and storage devices. It also handles comms between
backup and Media Manager software. Additionally, bptm manages the
Netbackup media database and provides information for the media list
report screen. (Lots of stuff, apparently)
tar Tape Archiver program. Special version of tar, (gnu tar, as I understand
it), used to backup/restore images.
xbp X-Windows based client interface for user-directed backups, restores,
and archives.
xbpadm X-Windows based administrative interface for managing Netabckup on a
master server
xbpmon X-Windows based job monitor with limited job control options.

scanning so the system can automatically assign removable media requests to
specific drives.
volume management daemon; tracks location, mount number, and mount time for
vmd
each volume.
Robotic The exact daemon name is dependent on the type of robot. These daemons run on
daemons each host that's connected to a tape library. They pass information from ltid to the
robotic or to a robotic control daemon.
Robotic control The exact daemon name is dependent on the type of robot. These daemons only
daemons run on the host that controls the robot.
