A Semi Detailed Lesson Plan in General Mathematics

A. Content Standards: The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of

key concepts of rational functions.
B. Performance Standards: The learner is able to formulate accurately formulate and
solve real-life problems involving rational functions.
C. Learning Competency: M11GM-Ic-3 - The learners should be able to solve
problems involving rational functions, equations, and
inequalities.

Specific Objectives:
1. Illustrate mathematical modeling.
2. Formulate rational equations based on the given conditions.
3. Solve problems involving rational equations.
4. Express ideas on the corruption in construction industries.

C. Establishing a purpose for the lesson

Transform the following phrases into mathematical symbols.
1. Three times a number is five.
2. The quotient of three times a number and eight is thirty-eight.
3. The difference of the square of a number and seven is five.
4. Jenny can work two times slower than Anthony.
5. The length of a rectangle is three feet less than four times its width.
6. One train travel three miles more than twice the distance another
train travels. The total distance traveled by both trains is eight
hundred miles.
D. Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson.
Present the concept of mathematical modeling.
Define model and mathematical modeling.

model (n): a miniature representation of something; a pattern of something to be made;

an example for imitation or emulation; a description or analogy used to help visualize
something (e.g., an atom) that cannot be directly observed; a system of postulates, data
and inferences presented as a mathematical description of an entity or state of affairs

mathematical model (n): a representation in mathematical terms of the

behavior of real devices and objects

E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills#1.

Present the following problem.
Cheenie plays mobile legends almost every weekend. So far, She has won 𝟏𝟐 out
of 𝟐𝟎 matches using her favorite hero - Fanny.
a. How many matches will Cheenie have to win in a row to improve her
winning percentage to 𝟕𝟓%?
b. How many matches will Cheenie have to win in a row to improve her
winning percentage to 𝟗𝟎%?
c. How many matches will Cheenie have to win in a row to improve her
winning percentage to of 𝟏𝟎𝟎%?

F. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills#2.

Using a riding lawn mower, Sherry, the landscaper of a large park, can mow
the lawn in 8 hours. With a small mower, her assistant Bob needs 14 hours to mow the
same lawn. If Sherry and Bob work together mowing the lawn, how long will it take them
to mow the lawn?

G. Developing Mastery (Leads to Formative Assessment)

Think – Pair - Share
Two workers, a trainer and a trainee, working together can do a job in 3
hours. The trainer is 3 times faster than the trainee to complete the same job. How long
will it take the trainee to finish the same job?
H. Finding practical application of concepts and skills in daily living
Discuss why the construction industries are prone to corruption.
Present the article of the Top 10 ‘Build, Build, Build’ contractors have records of fraud,
delays – PCIJ
I. Making generalizations and abstractions about the lesson
Present the essential questions:
1. When can we model rational equations in real – life situations?
2. Why is it important to develop problem solving skills?
J. Evaluating learning
Assignment:
1. After Cheenie has reached a winning percentage of 𝟗𝟎% by winning consecutive
matches as in part (b), how many matches can she now lose in a row to have a winning
percentage of 𝟓𝟎%?

2. It takes Roberto 8 hours longer than Paula to repair a transmission. If it takes them 3
hours to do the job if they work together, how long will it take each of them working
alone?
