A Semi - Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 7

A. Content Standards: The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of of sets and
the real number system.

B. Performance Standards: The learner is able to formulate challenging situations involving

sets and real numbers and solve these in a variety of strategies.

C. Learning Competency: The Learners should be able to performs fundamental operations on

integers. M7NS-Ic-d-1

Objectives:
1. Use algebra tiles in adding integers.
2. Represent real world situations by writing addition equations using negative and
positive integers.
3. Perform addition of integers.

Content: Algebra
Topic: Addition of Integers

b. Instructional Materials: Chalkboard, chalk, marker, manila paper.

Procedure:
A. Reviewing Previous lesson or presenting the new lesson. (Motivation)

Determine the absolute value of the following:

a. |17| = b. |−99| = c. |3 + 18| =
d. |13 − 5|= e. |35 − 35| =
 Ask the question, “How can we define the absolute value of a number?”
Present the problem: Ion is a very hardworking Grade 7 student. After class, he often
helps his mother sell paper bags and eco-bags.. On one Saturday morning they earned Php 250.
For their snack, he bought two banana cues worth Php 30 and two cups of buko juice for Php
20. In the afternoon, they were able to sell eco -bags amounting to Php 85 and spent Php150 for
their dinner. How much money is left for Ion and his mother?

Allow the learners to analyze the problem and let them work in groups.
Present the essential questions:

 What procedure did you use to be able to arrive at the correct answer?
 What concepts do you know about addition that helped you find the answer?
 In City of San Fernando, what city ordinance does Ion and his mother follows?
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson
Discuss addition of integers

C. Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson.

The teacher will present the lesson for today which is all about addition of integers.
A tile represent +1 while tile represent -1.
Find the value in each of the following cases.
 Let the learners to answer
 Let the learners to state the rules in addition of integers based on the given
illustration

1. + =
Rule 1: when adding positive signs, we add the numbers and copy their sign
In real life: if we combine the good deeds, the result is also good.

2. + =
Rule 2: when adding negative signs, we add the numbers and copy their sign.
In real life: if we combine the bad deeds, the result is also bad.

3. + =
Rule 3: when we add positive and negative sign, we subtract the numbers and copy the
sign of the bigger number.
In real life: if we combine more good deeds to a bad deed, then the result is good.

4. + =
Rule 4: when we add positive and negative sign, we subtract the numbers and copy the
sign of the bigger number.
In real life: if we combine more bad deeds to a good deed, then the result is bad

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills#1.

“Adding Integers Song”
Same sign add and keep different sign subtract
Take the sign of the bigger number, then you’ll be exact
Repeat it 4 times.

E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills#2.

TRY THIS: Find the sum of the following. (recitation) (First 10 learners who will get the
answer will get plus 2 on their recitation card).
a. 15 + 27 = 42
b. -22 + -57 = -79 Ask the students:
c. -44 + 36 = 8  Discuss the procedure in arriving in the correct answer.
d. 18 + (-78) = -60  What rule/s did you observed to be able to answer examples a – e?
e. 24 + (-33) + 9 = 0
F. Developing Mastery (Leads to Formative Assessment) (Group Activity)
The students will be asked to go to their respective groups. The teacher will give and
explain the group activity entitled “Adding integers maze”.

H. Evaluating Learning (Assignment) (1/2 Crosswise)

Find the sum.
a. (-45) + (-72) =
b. 28 + (-49) =
c. (-36) + 36 + 41 =
d. 17 + (-9) + (-10) =
e. (-123) + 500 =
