Practical Name

Aim: - To Dismantle & Assemble Axle from the Vehicle & to inspect all linkages and arms.

Tools required: - Set Spanners, Ring Spanners, Cutting Plier, Hammer, Screw driver.

Procedure: - Axles are an integral component of most practical wheeled vehicles. In a live-axle
suspension system, the axles serve - to transmit driving torque to the wheel, as well as to maintain the
position of the wheels relative to each other and to the vehicle body. The axles in this system must also
bear the weight of the vehicle plus any cargo. A non-driving axle, such as the front beam axle in heavy
duty trucks and some 2-wheel drive light trucks and vans, will have no shaft, and serves only as a
suspension and steering component. Conversely, many front wheel drive cars have a solid rear beam
axle.
It is used to vary the speeds of the vehicle while turning in the circular position.
Dismantling & assembling of axle

1. Firstly with the help of Lifter or Jockey We have to remove the Tyres.
2. Next remove the Brake drum of both the sides in order to find the fault in the Axle area i.e.,
slipping.
3. Next remove the Brake liners with the help of Cutting Pliers & screw driver.
4. Then remove the Axles of both the sides of rear axle with respect to Differential housing.
5. Inspect Differential gears in the housing which has no leakage of lubrication i.e., Oil.
6. Wash or clean the surface of the axles for assembling.
7. If any damage occurs need to service or replace it.
8. Next insert into the housing area and fit it.
9. Next align the brake liners and drum brake as vehicle config. Differs.
10. Assemble the tyres and move for the post test drive.

Inspection/Maintenance

1. Perform Pre-service test drive.

2. Inspect wheel bearings as needed
3. Rotate & Inspect tyres
4. Remove wheels. Check brakes. Measure front & rear linings and inspect rotor condition.
5. Check visible leaks.
6. Change automatic transaxle fluid and filter as vehicle config. Requires.
7. Inspect throttle linkage and ignition wire if needed
8. Inspecting the Linkages like Universal joints depending upon the torque of the mating surfaces
is in Twisting movement within the range

10. Leakage of oil must be checked with the actual viscosity needed for the lubrication, If spoiled or
lost the viscous level, need to change the oil.
11. Perform Post-inspection/service test drive.

1.Practical observation depends upon the faults occurs in the axles and need to service.
2.inspection & replace if needed.
