Foreword
Congratulations to all of you for your future arrival at SUPAERO! You will find in this small file some
advice, information and “how to” which we think may be useful to you before your arrival at
SUPAERO. Facilities on campus and in Toulouse are located on an interactive map of the campus
(and surroundings).
We hope that this handbook will prove useful to you. If you have more questions about living in
Toulouse, feel free to ask on the Facebook group for international students, or by e-mail.
PS: don’t be afraid of all the acronyms you will hear at the beginning of your stay. A lot of them are
translated in this handbook. Whatever, you will quickly get used to it!

I. Priority information
1. Before you leave home, do not forget…
your passport/ID
your European Health Insurance Card for EU students (see 7.1 Health)
a birth certificate translated in French for non-European students, for CAF aids and health
insurance registration (see 5.3 CAF Inscription and 7.1 Health)
your health records
to take your check-in appointment with ALTÉAL if you have a room on campus (see
Housing/Accommodation)
1) Go to the guards at the main entrance (“poste de garde”) located at 10, avenue Edouard Belin.
They may speak in broken English and with a tough French accent but don’t be afraid: just tell
them that you are an international student coming at SUPAERO, and that you must go in to seek
out your student card.
The washing machines however do not accept payment by IZLY, it only takes cash or credit card.
See On-Campus Facilities for more details about the use of the card for payment until
September.
3) Go to ALTÉAL office at the time of your check-in appointment to sign your rental agreement and
collect the keys of your bedroom

II. Practical information
The campus is located in the southeast of Toulouse. The exact entrance address (front door and
“poste de garde”) is 10, avenue Edouard Belin, 31400 Toulouse. Please note that for your arrival
you have to use the main entrance, namely “poste de garde”.
From the airport, you can as well use the tram station just in front of the airport, which goes from
the airport to ”Palais de Justice”. You will arrive just near the metro station line B.
Then use the metro line B direction “Ramonville” (also available at Jean-Jaurès) and step out at
“Faculté de Pharmacie”. Then take the bus n°78 direction “Lycée de St Orens” and step out at
“ENAC”. Eventually, you have to walk through the Edouard Belin avenue to reach the ISAE campus.
Otherwise you could step out at “LAAS” and arrive at the back door of ISAE campus.
7
From Ramonville there is also the possibility to catch the line n°27, leaving at the “ISAE Campus
SUPAERO” stop.
Also, you can choose to step out of the Airport Shuttle at the railway station (see below).
Please note that the metro line A will be entirely shut down from the 16th of July until the 26thof
August.
By car
Get to the outer ring road (“périphérique extérieur”) in direction of Montpellier and take the exit 20
“Complexe Scientifique de Rangueil”.

3. On-Campus Facilities
3.1 Restaurant
The restaurant offers different types of meals including vegetarian food. There is a standard self-
service restaurant and also a cafeteria selling take-away food. The idea is that you pay using your
student card (“carte IZLY”). You have to recharge the credit of your card using your bank card.
Unfortunately, it can be done only with a French bank card.
The restaurant is open in the morning from 7am to 8am, from 11:30am to 1:45pm for lunch and from
6.30pm to 8pm for dinner. One meal costs about 5€ with a first course, a main course and a dessert
and a drink.
Your IZLY account will be activated via your ISAE mailbox. If you already possess an ISAE account, you
may have received the activation e-mail. Please look at the following section for more information.
If not, your student card and your login and password will be given to you by Robin Petitdemange
(student administrative assistant) as soon as you meet him when you arrive in Toulouse. You will be
able to charge this card with cash using the charging terminal located at the main entrance of the
restaurant. You can still pay your meal in cash but it is recommended not to process this way as it
increases waiting times in the queue at lunch time.
Besides, you can go eating downtown or you can buy some food and then cook it in one of the
kitchens located in each residence. The closest shops are located on the other side of the
“périphérique”. To join either the Leclerc Drive (online orders) Avenue de Lespinet or the grocery
store rue Jacqueline Auriol, please use the entrance behind the “Maison des Élèves” (MDE) at the 4
Avenue Edouard Belin. Be careful as the traffic is dense between the institute and the shops. For
more competitive prices you may want to reach the mall in Labège. To get there, use the metro line B
towards Ramonville and then the bus line n°79 and stop at “Centre commercial Labège”.
10
Then go on WALI which is your mail box associated to your ISAE account
(firstname.lastname@student.isae-supaero.fr). You will have a mail from the CROUS to create your
IZLY account and activate your card. Please note that you don’t have to put money immediately on it
and that you can do it later either from the internet or using the iOS /Android app.
Apart from the compulsory sport lessons, a lot of sport activities are organised in club by the
students themselves (including skydiving, paragliding, scuba diving, glider soaring!). All clubs are
sponsored by the Association Sportive (AS), which covers up to two third of your costs/expenditures!
(it may depend on the activity you are practicing). To benefit from this, you need to subscribe to the
AS by paying 25€ (CAUTION: only by cheque!) and bringing a health certificate (forms available at the
AS office, in the “Maison des Élèves”).
11
You will soon receive documents from the AS. Until these are ready, the AS wants you to know that,
if you want to use the sport facilities, you will quickly need to go to a doctor to fill the Medical
Certification for sport. The first time you go to a doctor in France you have to declare him as your
referent doctor by filling this file. Else, the amount of the refund for the medical consultation will
drop from 70% to 30% (see 7.1 Health).
La “Maison des Élèves” is also the place where to find the Students office (“la khomiss”), the sports
association office (“l’Association Sportive”), and all the club rooms. Two TV-rooms will be at disposal,
too.
To enjoy all that the clubs, the MDE and the foyer has to offer, you need to be a member of the
students’ association. You can subscribe by going to their office, “la khomiss” on the 2nd floor of the
MDE. The subscription costs about 110€ for two years and arrangements can be worked out for
people staying less than that. You’ll have a lot more information when you’ll arrive.
Please note that the Maison des Élèves will only be open starting the integration period (around
August, 25th).
4. Internet formalities
Due to the fact that the ISAE web internet has a firewall some programs may not work and some
websites may not work either. This is only true in the “Bâtiment enseignement”. The residences will
be provided with a private internet network. Here is some advice:
To synchronize your dropbox account while on campus, if it doesn’t work on itself, you have to
modify the proxy settings of dropbox: go to the dropbox settings -> Proxy Server -> choose manual,
enter “10.133.0.2:3128” for “Server”
To use Firefox, go ´to “Options” -> advanced -> network -> Connections “Configure how Firefox
connects to the Internet” click “Settings” -> “Automatic proxy configuration URL” enter
“http://wpad.isae.fr/wpad.dat”
12
5. Housing/Accommodation
Note that when you’re a student in France, you may be eligible to receive rental assistance/housing
benefits (CAF). For more information, check their website www.caf.fr and this useful guide.
Residences 4, 5 and 6 were opened in 2014 and residences 1, 2 and 3 were renovated in 2015.
Every type of accommodation is equipped with its own shower and toilet. Bed linens, pillow, blanket
and bath towels are not provided. All service charges (water, electricity, heating and cleaning of
common parts) are included in the rent. However, it is your responsibility to keep your room and
bathroom clean. Fridge and micro-wave are provided in every room. There are no kitchen in the
bedrooms (A, B, C and D), but there are in the studios, duplex and T1 bis (rooms on waiting list). It is
forbidden to bring your own devices to cook (heating plates) in the bedrooms.
There is one common kitchen per residence, with heating plates at your disposal. However, it may be
crowded, especially after the beginning of the classes.
13
Furniture of the rooms consist of a bed (+mattress, 90cm large), a desk with a chair, a wardrobe and
a separated bathroom with a shower, a toilet and a washbasin. Studios are equipped with a fitted
kitchen and a larger bed. Washing machines are available in the basement of residence 2 (expect 3€
per use).
Internet access is not included in the charges. You will have to subscribe a membership to Wifirst, a
private internet service provider. It will be an additional cost of approximately 150€ for the whole
year. Internet is provided only through an Ethernet cable.

toulbox.univ-toulouse.fr/en/
By default, the contract lasts 12 months and is automatically renewed every year. You can cancel it
with a one’s month notice.
To facilitate your housing application request, please prepare the following documents (clean and
readable pdf versions):
What is a guarantor?
A guarantor is a person or an entity that agrees to be responsible for another's debt under a contract
if the other fails to pay. ALTÉAL – as most of private French company – requires a guarantor.
Two options:
You know a physical person who has enough income and pays taxes in France
You have to apply for the Garantie Visale: www.visale.fr
14
Signing rental agreement and keys collection
Once you’ve made your housing application request, you will receive a proof of accommodation
stating your room number and the starting date of your rental agreement.
The appointment lasts approximately 30 minutes. An administrator will assist you to sign your
contract.
Deposit: Note that you will have to pay a deposit at your arrival. The amount corresponds to one
month's rent without charges. You can pay with your credit card. The deposit is returned within 1 to
2 months after the end of the rental contract.
Packages
The address of the dorm is “4, Avenue Edouard Belin”. If you want to receive package during the
academic year, use the following address:
your name

31400 TOULOUSE
Description
There are many different possibilities. You may try to find a flat-sharing (Colocation) or a single
apartment (Location, T1/T1bis). It is usually nice to live in the center but it might be hard to find a flat,
especially if you’re not yet in Toulouse (but it is possible). Remember, you still must have a French
guarantor (see above). Useful information can be found here.
Prices
Prices are really variable depending on the type of apartment you are looking for and whether it’s a
flat-sharing or not. For a small apartment (T1), expect a rent between 300€ and 450€.
Often, to rent a room, you must have a guarantor. The same rules apply as described in section
5.1/prices for ALTÉAL.
Finally, a bail of 1 month rent can be demanded by the lessor. This money is given back to you at the
end of your stay.
15
5.3 CAF Inscription
All students, even if they come from abroad, can have financial aids for housing. Once you have your
French bank account, you can apply for the housing allocation. It is not a priority at your arrival, as
the allocation has a retroactive effect. We advise you to apply in mid-September.
You first have to start an online demand on the CAF website, here.
your address;
your RIB (i.e. your French bank account number, see Opening a bank account);
the name of your lessor (i.e. ALTÉAL, if you sleep in the residences);
the price of the rent and service charges.
Then, you will need to send your files with the required documents: a birth certificate (non-EU
students only), a copy of the ID card and a “certificat de scolarité” (proof of enrollment) attesting
that you are indeed a student at ISAE-SUPAERO (given by the student affairs office), you can ask for it
a couple of days after the official beginning of the term). You’ll also need a long stay visa valid as
residence card (Visa Long Séjour valant Titre de Séjour – VLS/TS).
For the birth certificate, think about getting one TRANSLATED IN FRENCH, BEFORE YOUR ARRIVAL at
Toulouse (your registration will be processed much more easily and quickly). Check with your
authorities where to get one.
If you have any problem with CAF reimbursement you can go at Toulouse Welcome Desk (41, Allées
Jules Guesde 31013 Toulouse). Toulouse Welcome Desk is not often crowded and people are
dedicated to new students arriving in Toulouse (especially to foreigners).
Before your administrative registration in a French higher education institution, you must pay the
CVEC fees (“Contribution Vie Etudiante et de Campus”), which amount is 90€. This contribution is
intended for the welcoming and the social, sanitary, cultural and sports support of students.
Enter your personal data and pay online by bank card or with cash in a post office. Eventually,
download the attestation of payment that you will present on the day of your administrative
registration.
Scholarship holders, refugees or asylum seekers are exempted from the payment but still need to
follow the procedure in order to obtain an attestation of exemption.
16
7. Insurance
7.1 Health
EU students
You stay covered by the social security of your country through the European Health Insurance Card
(Carte Européenne d’Assurance Maladie, CEAM), that can be obtained from your country health
organism.
Non-EU students
You must apply to the compulsory French Social Security (Sécurité Sociale or Caisse Primaire
d’Assurance Maladie, CPAM). This application has to be made necessarily once on the French
territory and after your administration inscription at ISAE-SUPAERO. You will be covered from the
day of your administrative inscription, retroactively.
Download a temporary attestation of affiliation and, once they processed your documents and
checked everything, download the definitive attestation. Once your affiliation done, you can create
an account on www.ameli.fr and order your “Carte Vitale” (health insurance card). On your first
medical consultation, you will declare the doctor as your referent doctor. You can find more
information here.
French Health Insurance system is peculiar. Unlike your Health Insurance, it doesn’t cover the cost of
repatriation, death, etc. It only covers the cost of the health care: for example, when you go to the
doctor you will be refunded one part of the expense (70% on average) by the Social Security and then,
according to your Health Insurance Status, you will be refunded the second part (30% on average).
What is a Health Insurance Status? To keep your healthcare expenses to a minimum, it is essential to
supplement your Social Security refunds by taking out a complementary health insurance, such as
the one from VITTAVI or LMDE. Complementary health insurances cover all or part of the difference
between the doctor’s fee and the French Social Security refund.
You will subscribe to this insurance at your arrival, but it won't be effective until 1st September. This
is the reason why you have to be covered by your own insurer till then. Therefore, you must provide
us a proof of health covering effective from your arrival till the 1st September. In September and
October VITTAVI and LMDE will have an office at Toulouse Welcome Desk. Feel free to go and see
them for any queries.
17
7.2 Liability & Home
You must have 2 different insurances. One is “Assurance responsabilité civile” and the other is
“Assurance habitation” (for your housing).
For the “Assurance responsabilité civile”, it is possible that you already have one thanks to your
parents insurance. Check the contract of your parents and verify if you are insured even in another
country (typically, for EU students, depending on the insurance of your parents, you may be insured
for the whole EU countries). Sometimes, the “Assurance responsabilité civile” and the “Assurance
habitation” may be on the same contract document. If you ever take a room on campus from ALTÉAL,
the “responsabilité civile” is provided by contracting an “assurance habitation”.
Note that if you decide not to live in the campus you should really pay attention to contract a
“responsabilité civile” quickly as the ISAE’s administration will ask for it for your inscription in the
institute.
For the “Assurance habitation”, you have to give this insurance to ALTÉAL the day of your check-in,
otherwise they won’t be able to give you your keys.
You can subscribe to these insurances at nearly all banks or insurance agencies:
Société générale
BNP Paribas
LCL
GMF
Matmut
Vittavi
LMDE
18
8. Opening a bank account
We advise you to open a French bank account. It will be easier for your stay as some administration
steps need cheques and the terminals to recharge the money on your student card (see 3.1
Restaurant) only work with a French bank card.
Société Générale: There is an agreement between the bank and the SUPAERO students’
association: you receive 40€ at the opening of the bank account. Then, if you actually use this
account (7 debit and credit per month during 6 months) you will be credited with 60€ more
after 6 months. Plus, if you decide to keep your credit card and account when traveling
abroad you will benefit from decreased credit card fees (5€ per month instead of 17€ per
month). Moreover, the more students from SUPAERO subscribe at the beginning of the year,
the more money the students’ association will receive for the clubs. So do not forget to
specify that you are from SUPAERO when opening the bank account!
They can take care of your insurances, too.
Address of some Société Générale banks:
21 Grande rue Saint-Michel (the easiest to reach by taking the metro line B and stopping at
“Saint-Michel Marcel Langer”)
Opening hours:
Tue-Wed-Fri: 8h45-12h30, 13h45-17h50
Thu: 8h45-12h30, 14h30-17h50
Sat: 8h45-12h30
272 Avenue Saint-Exupéry
Opening hours:
Tue-Wed-Fri: 8h45-12h30, 13h45-17h50
Thu: 8h45-12h30, 14h30-17h50
Sat: 8h45-12h30
224 Rue Carmin, 31670 Labège
Opening hours:
Mon-Tue-Wed-Thu-Fri: 8h30-16h30
There are also duty periods of some employees of the “Société Générale” who come to the
campus every Tuesday at the students’ association office (2nd floor of the MDE) which is really
useful to cash a cheque for example.
Crédit Mutuel: There is an agreement between this bank and the sports association
LCL: The advantage is that they also take care of all the insurances so it is easier
BNP Paribas: Several offices all over the city
19
8.1 Steps to open the bank account
For EU students, you need a valid ID card, a student card and a “certificate of accommodation”
(“attestation de logement”).
For non-EU students, you should bring your passport, your visa (“Visa long séjour valant titre de
séjour”) and your residence permit and also a “certificate of accommodation” (“attestation de
logement”).
A RIB is a “Relevé d’identité bancaire”. You will need one at the inscription at SUPAERO and for
several others administrative steps so ask for some at the opening of the account (or you can print
them yourself later as the bank will send it to you by email).

III. Getting around
1. Public transport
How?
First of all, you need to get a Tisseo Card (called a “Carte Pastel”). The Tisseo Card costs 8€. It can be
done at the Tisseo office in the JeanJaurès station (Metro, line B and line A), or DIRECTLY AT THE
AIRPORT or even prepare the registration by completing the online form. You will receive your card
by post service at the address you choose. It will be much cheaper to travel using the “carte pastel”.
You can also activate your student card instead of buying a “carte pastel”. It means you won’t have
to wait until the arrival of the card but the activation is slightly more expensive.
An interactive map of the whole Tisseo network can be found on their website.
To do it, you only need an ID picture of yourself and your address (see Packages if you plan on living
on campus).
100€ for unlimited transport for a full year (valid from September the 1st to August the 31st)
10€ for unlimited transport for a month
4€ for 10 travels (a travel allows you up to 2 transfers in a max of ~1h)
Note that there is an Android and iOS app “Tisseo” that you can download and that can guide you
and help you plan your trips to the city.
When?
From Monday to Thursday and on Sunday, the first metro departs around 5am and the last metro
departs around midnight from each terminus.
What?
Metro
There are two subway lines in Toulouse, the closest to SUPAERO is “Faculté de Pharmacie” on line B.
Buses
Line 78: stop at “LAAS” right next to the Henri Fabre building (back door). You’ll need
your Izly card or the access code to get in through there.
Line 27: stop at “ISAE Campus SUPAERO” right next to the main entrance and the “poste
de garde”.
Line 37: stop at ”ENAC”, then walk on Edouard Belin avenue to ISAE Campus (5min by
walk).
21
Tramways
There are two tramways in Toulouse, one from the airport to “Palais de Justice”, and one from
“Aéroconstellation” to “Palais de Justice”.
Noctambus
On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, there’s a night bus (beginning at 1am on Thursday and 2am for
the other days): the “noctambus”. It only goes from the city center to the university campus (there’s
a stop at “Faculté de Pharmacie”). You can pick the bus at different stops located in the city center
(most usual places to pick the bus: Jean-Jaurès, Carmes, Esquirol).
The rates
You can link your “Carte Pastel” or your student card to your subscription to the Vélo Toulouse
service (20€ per year). If you decide to subscribe, then everytime you use a bike, the first 30 minutes
are free. Then you have to pay around 0.5€ per 30 minutes.
If you don’t have a subscription to the Vélo Toulouse service, you can still use the bikes. However,
when renting a bike, a bail (~150€) is taken off from your account and the first 30 minutes are not
offered. The bail is given back after you put back the bike at a terminal, although they may be some
days of delay.
22
2. Useful Facilities near the campus
2.3 Supermarket
To buy food, milk, breakfasts… The nearest possibilities are:
Carrefour Market: located near the metro station Saint-Michel on line B. It’s ok if you don’t
have much time but as it is a small market, there is not so much variety.
Huit à 8 shop, near the Rangueil metro station. Open from 8am to 8pm, but small and not
really cheap.
Saint-Orens Mall (the Leclerc store): located on line 78 (stop “Centre commercial Saint-
Orens”). It’s a big mall, so everything is available there.
Leclerc Drive near ISAE: You can do your shopping online and then go there to get it.
Labège Mall: go to “Ramonville” (with the 27), then take the 79 and stop at “Centre
Commercial Labège”
Toulouse is a nice place to stay (the city is really charming), but also to party. See the interactive map
with the recommended spots, mainly around “Place Saint-Pierre”. The eastern shore of the river
Garonne is also usually a place where young people meet at night in summer. There, you will find a
lot of foreigners who came to Toulouse for the same reason as you!
If you don’t know where to start, take a look at “le Petit Tou’”! (www.lepetittou.com)
22
To Sum up
