Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Three’s class! Kristin Cunnie and Heather Monzingo will be your
child’s teachers this year. We have been teaching together for 7 years (and many
summers!) Mrs. Cunnie has been teaching for eighteen years, thirteen of them
here at Little Scouts. Ms. Monzingo has been teaching for twenty years and this
will be her eleventh year with Little Scouts.
We both enjoy cooking, arts & crafts, and being outdoors. We are excited to get
to know our new class and make lots of wonderful memories! If you have any
special interests, family traditions, or a special holiday that you would like to
share with the class you are always welcome to join us…we would love to have
you!

Now that your children are in the Three’s there are some changes that you may
notice. You will still receive much of the same information, but the way in which
we convey it to you is different. Daily reports are not used in our class, instead
we notate who tried a little bit of everything at lunch and length of nap on
clipboards by our door. We do not send home weekly lesson plans, instead we
direct you to check our class weebly page where you will find a variety of pictures
taken throughout the week, a snapshot of what we have learned, important
events that are coming up and what our next class themes will be! We take a
TON of pictures weekly, and this is the absolute BEST way to keep up to date of
our classroom!!

(You can also find us by going to the Little Scouts Weebly page at
www.littlescouts.weebly.com and clicking on Three Year Olds)

Little Scouts hours are 6:45 am-5:15 pm. While we understand that every
family’s morning routine is different, we ask that you please try to have your child
here at school by 9:00a.m. This is when circle time begins and it can be hard on
the child to come into the middle of an activity. When you enter the classroom
please be sure to sign your child in on the clipboard and have your child wash
his/her hands (complying with DCFS requirements).
A note about breakfast:
We know that mornings can be very hectic and your child is welcome to bring
breakfast to eat in our class if they arrive at any point before 8:00. At 8:15 our
“breakfast table” is closed and becomes a play space, and any breakfast that is
not eaten is either thrown out or put back into their cubbie to be taken home.
Please be aware, we do not have a refrigerator or a microwave in our
room, so if you want things that require refrigeration to return home please pack
a cold/ice pack into their insulated bag. If your child does not each the lunch
provided by the school for dietary reasons, please send their lunch daily to school
in an insulated container. A good way to keep food hot is to purchase a small
thermos and if you preheat the thermos with HOT tap water or hot water from
the Keurig, it really does keep food warm all the way until lunch!
A note about self-help skills:
As we are sure that you have noticed…children have a drive to be independent
and to do things on their own. We can help our children with their independence
by encouraging them to take responsibility for themselves whenever possible.
Allowing your little ones to take limited control is a great way to develop self-help
skills. Although it can be faster and less messy to do things for our children, they
learn so much more from doing things for themselves.
When children practice self-help skills such as feeding and dressing themselves,
they practice their gross and fine motor skills and gain confidence in their ability
to try new things. It also helps to build self-esteem and confidence in their
independence. Encouraging self-help skills from a young age will assure
independence in later years too! One of the most important skills we would
appreciate your help with is taking off and putting on socks and shoes! We of
course are always here to lend a hand, but we want the children to be trying to
do it themselves!

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact one of us. We
are looking forward to a great year!
