A Report on attending conference :

National Conference on Excellence in Nursing Research Process & Outcome

Date :-30th Nov to 1st Dec 2018.

College of Nursing, SSKM Hospital Campus ,Kolkata, West Bengal.

INTRODUCTION

We started our journey on date 29-11-2018 atabout 9.45 PM in Puri-Howrah Express train
from Bhubaneswar. We reached Howrah station on dt 30-11-2018 at about 5 AM in morning.
Then we reached College of Nursing, SSKM Hospital, West Bengal, from there we went to
the nearby guest house for boarding purpose. Then we went to the conference room at about
10.00 AM.

OBJECTIVES

Student’s objectives:

 To gather information about nursing research process.


 To know the use of appropriate research tool in conduction of nursing research in
different areas.
 To recognise current ethical issues which affect nursing research.

Conference’s objectives:

 To increase the involvement of health professional researchers & the use of health
services research methods in the investigations of the issues relevant to quality
patient/client care.
 To promote interdisciplinary collaboration between nurses & other health care
professionals in research.
 To improve the use of appropriate research tools in order to augment internal &
external validity of research findings.
 To disseminate & promote health care research related to nursing practice, work force
& delivery of care.

THEME

“Excellence in nursing research process & outcome”

Sub themes:

 Nurses autonomy & professionalism.


 Innovative clinical nursing research.
 Dissemination of ethical guidelines in nursing research.
 treatment adherence of person with mental illness attending a tertiary mental health
setting.
 Nursing research& genomics.
 Evidence-based nursing practice.
 Gemonic research: integration in some area

Schedule of the Conference :-

1st DAY—Thursday, Nov 29,2018 Pre conference workshop.

We could not attend the 1st Day of the Conference.

2nd DAY—Friday, Nov 30,2018 Conference.

Registration was started from 8.00 AM to 9.00 AM.

9.00 AM to 10.00 AM- There was a talk by Dr. Suresh Ku. Sharma on qualitative research
design & that was an excellent talk by him, but unfortunately we are unable to attend that
programm.

10.00 AM to10.30 AM- Tea Break –

There was high tea arrangement & we all enjoy tea & breakfast.

10.30 AM to 11.30 AM –

Inaugrual Session of Conference was done & that was followed by Excellence in Nursing
Research: Outcome & Generalizability of Research finding given by Mr. H.C. Rawat,
MSc. nursing( Paediatric), MA in Sociology, Principal University College of Nursing, Baba
Farid University of Health Science & Dr.SushmaSaini,

Here they talk about the importance of Nursing innovation, there they talk about
Nursing was not only meant for Providing care but also Providing holistic care. There they
give importance on some new idea that is

1. Finding New Information 2. Better ways of Promoting health 3.Preventing Disease


4.Better Patient Care

Innovation means think different from routine.

11.30 AM to 12.30 PM - Innovative Clinical Nursing Research was given by Prof. Amrita
Lenka, Dr. Suresh Sharma, Dr Blessy Antony HOD Mental health nursing,Choithram
College of nursing, Indore,M.P. & Ms.ParulDutta.

Here they talk about the importance of Clinical research in 5 domains

 Clinical Practice
 Human Subject Protection
 Contributing to the Science
 Care Co-ordination & Continuing
 Study mannerism
12.30 to 1.30pm Nursing Honour Society of India(NHSI) activities, GB meeting &
Election was done by Dr.UshaUkande, President Nursing Research Society India.The
elected members of the GB meeting areDr.Selva Titus Chacko elected as President, Dr. Anil
Sharma elected as Secretary, Dr.AssumaBeevi TM elected as Vice President,
Mrs.LataMandal elected as Jt. Secretary & Prof.Blessy Antony elected as Treasurer.

1.30 PM to 2.30 PM - lunch

2.30 PM to 3.30 PM - Followed by a delicious lunch, next session was started on the theme
of Current Ethical Guidelines in Nursing Research headed by Prof. AnjanaSen in which
speakrs were Dr. Anil Sharma, Prof.KasturiMondal& Miss PurnimaKundu.

Dr. Anil Sharma – He talk about current ethical issues in research, where he give importance
on Informed Consent.

Prof. Kasturi Mondal – She talk about evolution of ethics, Ethical Principles & Issues in
Nursing research, where she gave importance on code of ethics & ethical dilemma.

Ms. Purnima Kundu – She talk about Monitoring ethics on research,

Where she give importance on Institutional Review Board

3.30 PM to 5.00 PM - End session was started on the theme of Evidence Based Nursing
Practice headed by Prof. Shanta De & the speaker Dr. Leila Caleb Varkey , where she give
importance on relationship between theory, research & practice.

The end session was followed by a small tea break from 5.00 PM to 5.30 PM.After that
cultural programme was conducted by the students of College of Nursing, West Bengal,
great performers, enjoyed a lot & then a delicious dinner arranged for all participants and
Delegates then we returned to guest house at 8.00pm.

3rd DAY—Saturday Dec 1, 2018 Scientific Paper & Poster presentation

The concurrent session for paper presentation was started from 9.00 AM to 10.30 AM which
was headed by Prof. SujataSengupta& the facilitators are Prof. Mahasweta
Bose,Dr.AssumaBeevi, Prof. UshaBir& Prof. KasturiMondal. There were various presenters
who presented their research study in a beautiful manner.

10. 00 A.M to 10. 30 A.M - Tea Break

After tea break, we visited theScientific Poster presentation in the 1st floor of College of
Nursing, West Bengal which was simultaneously done during paper presentation headed by
Prof. AshimaChakraborty& facilitators are Prof. Kalyani Kala, Prof. TapatiSaha,
Ms.SantwanaKundu, Prof. Bulbul Kundu&Ms.MitaliAdhikari. There were various presenters
who displayed their posters very nicely.

From 10.30 AM to 12.00 PM Pannel Discussion on Nursing Research &


Genomicsconducted by Prof. Chanu Bhattacharya, Prof. BishnupriyaBiswas,
Dr.SuwershKhana& Prof. SashiBala Gupta.

Dissemination of research findings started from 12.30 PM to 1.30 PM by Dr.Prabha Dasila,


Dr.Alpanamayee Bera, Dr. Uma Adhikari & Ms.Lata Mondal.

Then from 1.30 PM to 2.30 PM we went for the lunch & after that Validectory session was
done upto 4.00pm.

After that we went to visit the famous tourist place of Kolkata i.e. Victoria palace & returned
to Bhubaneswar by Amaravati Express which departed at 11.30 PM from Howrah station
and arrived at about 6.00 AM on 2nd December 2018 at Bhubaneswar.

EXPERIENCE:

There was so many expert people in nursing field were present from different field or
colleges. We acquired some knowledge on research design, current ethical guidelines in
nursing research, genomics , evidenced based practice & clinical nursing research.It was a
great opportunity for us to spend some time with the excellent speakers& gain some
knowledge. This conference was very interesting which enriched our experience with more
informative and knowledgeable. Evidence based practices are the resultant outcome which
lead to quality patient care- our ultimate goal.

CRITICAL ANALYSIS:

The conference was provided the appropriate platform for sharing the new knowledge and
skills through scientific research in health care services for betterment of the community.The
conference was very beneficial for us because we came to expose about research more deeply
which isquite beneficial for us in doing our research studies in future. Lastly, we thank to all
paricipants, organisers and College of Nursing, West Bengal for arranging such a beautiful
conference &giving us the opportunity to participate in this conference.
