July 2019 Teacher Liz

Aubada it was such a pleasure to observe you today as you took an interest in transferring, pouring and stirring exploration
in the sand pit. You scooped up sand and then tipped into the red pot then scooped it out of the pot and back into the sand-
pit. Then you picked up the pot and tipped the sand back to the sandpit, next you used the spoon to stir around and around.
You were very focussed on the task at hand and didn't look up once to see what was going on around you, you remained fo-
cussed for a significant amount of time.

I noticed how you arranged the items around yourself carefully positioning yourself on the steps at the sandpit rather than
going into the sandpit. You seemed to have a bit of a pattern as you worked repeating the same order over & over, scooping
the sand into the pot and tipping it out again. For you this learning was about practicing transferring the sand and pouring
from one vessel to the
next. I will continue to look
for more examples of
these skills in your explora-
tion play Aubada, now that
you are growing in confi-
dence.

Key Learning:

Mathematical concepts—
distance, space, pattern

Science concepts—
properties of sand, theory -
experiment-forming work-
ing theories

Physical skills—co-
ordination, strength, fine &
gross motor development

Aubada, today you were a

self motivated learner,
exploring and building new
ideas about how things
work.
