Congratulations on gaining an offer to study at the University of Padova. We look


forward to welcoming you to our community!

This offer information booklet is intended to support and prepare your arrival in Padova,
so please read it carefully. You should read this booklet alongside your formal offer
letter, as it sets out the next steps in the admission process and will advise you on what
action you may need to take next.

1. RECEIVING YOUR OFFER

1.1. HOW TO ACCEPT AN OFFER

After having received your Offer / Conditional Offer, you must confirm as soon as
possible whether or not you will be accepting it. In order to accept your offer and
secure your place, you should:

1. Enrol on Uniweb before the 23rd of April (12.00 noon - CET), using the same
username and password received at application stage.
Please follow our step-to-step offer acceptance guidelines on how to complete the
online procedure.

2. Pay the admission fee of EUR 187, corresponding to the regional tax and “marca da
bollo” (revenue stamp).
You can pay the admission fee via credit card (PagoPa) at the end of the online
procedure or alternatively via bank transfer1.

Please note that the admission fee cannot be refunded and must be paid even if you
have been awarded a scholarship and/or a fee-waiver.

Once you have completed the online procedure and paid the admission fee, you must
send the payment receipt to the Welcome Unit at: international.admission@unipd.it

1.2 CONDITIONAL OFFER

If you have received a conditional offer, you must provide evidence that you have met
the conditions of your offer before enrolling at the University. You should therefore let
the International Office - Welcome Unit know if you have achieved the conditions of
your offer as soon as possible. The evidence that you are required to provide will be
determined by the type of condition(s) outlined in your formal offer letter, and may
include:

- High school diploma for BA applicants;


- Degree certificate (final transcript or provisional certificates are accepted) for MA
applicants;
- English language certificate.

The aforementioned evidence documents must be sent via e-mail to the International
Office – Welcome unit at international.admission@unipd.it no later than the 1st of
August 2019.

1.3 DEFERRING YOUR OFFER

Unfortunately, it is not possible to defer the start date of an offer made by the University
of Padova, neither of one semester nor of one academic year.

If you decide to decline our offer for a.y. 2019/20 and you would like to apply again for
a.y. 2020/2021, you will have to go through the regular application procedure for a.y.
2020/2021.

2. COMPLETING YOUR ENROLMENT

2.1 PRE-ENROLL AT THE ITALIAN EMBASSY/CONSULATE OF YOUR COUNTRY


OF RESIDENCE

Once you have accepted your place at the University of Padova, you need to pre-enrol
at the Italian Embassy/Consulate in your country of residence by the 24th of July
2019. If you are already residing in any of the European Union member state (other
than Italy), you can pre-enrol at the Italian Embassy/Consulate in
your European country of residence.

This is a compulsory procedure for all non-European applicants wishing to enrol


at any Italian university. The process is overseen by the Italian Ministry of Education,
University and Research

Go to the Italian Embassy/Consulate in your country of residence (full list).


Fill in the pre-enrolment form (Form A). You can choose only one degree
course and one Italian university.

Prepare and submit the required documents indicated below:

Required documents – Bachelor’s degree courses

- Certified copy of your high school diploma Please note that the diploma should
state that at least 12 years of schooling have been completed. If you have been
awarded a final diploma after a shorter programme of study, other certificates
must be submitted to prove that you have completed the compulsory 12 years of
schooling required for the admission to Italian Universities (ex. transcript of
records of further academic studies; post-secondary qualification; certification of
completion of foundation course).
- Academic eligibility assessment: if a test of academic eligibility was set for the
admission to the University in your country, you must provide also a certificate
which states that you have passed that test (Selectividad in Spain, Prova de
Aferiçao or Prova Geral de Acesso ao Ensino Superior in
Portugal, Vestibular or Exame Nacional do Ensino Médio in Brazil, Gao Kao in
China etc.);
- Two passport photos
- Lettera d’idoneità all’immatricolazione (Admission Letter). The Admission Letter
will be sent to you via email once you have paid the admission fee following the

instructions provided in the Offer Letter. A copy of the letter will also be sent to
the Italian Embassy/Consulate in your country.
- Any other document requested by the Italian Embassy/Consulate in your country
(e.g. English Language certificate, Declaration of Value, extra documents
depending on your nationality, etc.). Please check with the Italian
Embassy/Consulate in your country the full list of required documents.

Required documents – Master’s degree courses

- Certified copy of your Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent degree) allowing
admission to a master’s degree course in the Italian higher education system.
- Certificate released by your home University stating passed exams (Transcript
of Records) as well as detailed programmes of the courses / modules (Courses
syllabus).
- Exams and credits achieved can also be certified by the Diploma Supplement, if
available.
- Two passport photos.
- Lettera d’idoneità all’immatricolazione (Admission Letter). The Admission Letter
will be sent to you via email once you have paid the admission fee following the
instructions provided in the Offer Letter. A copy of the letter will also be sent to
the Italian Embassy/Consulate in your country.
- Any other document requested by the Italian Embassy/Consulate in your country
(e.g. English Language certificate, Declaration of Value, etc.). Please check with
the Italian Embassy/Consulate in your country the full list of required documents.

The Italian Embassy or Consulate will send the list of successfully pre-enrolled
students to the University of Padova and return all required documentation to each
applicant.
Only students who successfully completed pre-enrolment at the Italian Embassy
/Consulate of their country of residence can apply for an Italian Study Visa and,
consequently, complete enrolment at the University of Padova.

2.2 APPLY FOR A STUDY VISA

If you are a citizen of a country not belonging to the European Union, you need to apply
for an entry visa before your arrival in Italy.
Please check with the Italian Embassy/Consulate of your country of residence (full list)
the detailed procedure to apply for an Italian study visa (D – immatricolazione).
If you are a permanent resident of another European Union Member State and have a
valid European Residence Permit, you should contact the Italian diplomatic authority in
your European country of residence.

Study Visa requirements

As a general rule, when submitting a visa application at the Italian Embassy/Consulate


you are required to meet the following conditions:

- Hold a valid passport, which is recognised by the Italian Authorities and remains
valid for at least three months subsequent to your planned period of stay in Italy.
- Have adequate means of subsistence for the whole duration of your stay in Italy.
According to the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regulations for a. y. 2019/20,

the amount is quantified as: euro 457,99 per month, equal to euro 5.953,87 per
year. The availability in Italy of such means of subsistence must be proven
through personal or parental economic guarantees or provided by Italian
Institutions or Authorities of proven liquidity, including Universities, local
Government, foreign Institutions or Authorities deemed reliable by the Italian
Embassy/Consulate.
Please note that the availability of means of subsistence cannot be
demonstrated through the exhibition of a bank guarantee or of a guarantee
insurance policy and neither with cash or guarantees supplied by third parties.
The application for an Italian Government scholarship or other scholarships
does not act as a proof of economic coverage. Students who applied but have
not yet obtained a scholarship must prove to have adequate means of
subsistence as all the other candidates.
- Demonstrate the availability of the necessary sum for repatriation. Return ticket
already satisfies this requirement.
- Prove to have a suitable accommodation in Italy
- Demonstrate an adequate Health Insurance coverage for medical expenses and
hospital stays with:
a) a document issued by the Italian Embassy/Consulate proving the right to
health assistance on the basis of bilateral agreements existing between Italy and
your own Country;
b) foreign insurance policy accompanied by a consular declaration on its validity
in Italy, its duration and the types of assistance provided which should not
involve limitations/exceptions to the rates set for urgent hospitalization for its
duration;
c) Italian insurance policy accompanied by the company declaration specifying
the absence of limitations/exceptions to the fees set for urgent hospitalization for
its duration.
The medical insurance required for a Schengen visa must meet the following
criteria: medical coverage of at least euro 30.000,00
coverage of emergency medical evacuation and repatriation of remains
Furthermore, acceptable medical insurance must provide evidence of a national
office based in Italy to be contacted in case of emergency
- Meet other country-specific requirements. Always check with the Italian
Embassy/Consulate in your country of residence for additional requirements.

Please note: it is your responsibility to start the process as soon as possible as the visa
may take up to three months or longer to be obtained.
Admission as a student at the University of Padova does not guarantee a visa. The
decision on whether a visa will be granted to you remains with the Italian
Embassy/Consulate.

2.3 PREPARE THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS TO FINALIZE ENROLMENT AT THE


UNIVERSITY OF PADOVA

Once arrived in Padova, after obtaining your Study Visa, you will have to complete
enrolment at the University. Make sure to prepare all requested documents indicated
below on time and before arrival:

- Certified high school diploma translated (Italian/English) and legalised2
by the
competent authorities of the country where you have obtained your diploma.
Please check the directions set by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and
International Cooperation (MAECI).
If a test of academic eligibility was set for the admission to the University in your
country, you must provide a certificate which states that you have passed that
test (Selectividad in Spain, Prova de Aferiçao or Prova Geral de Acesso ao
Ensino Superior in Portugal, Vestibular or Exame Nacional do Ensino Médio in
Brazil, Gao Kao in China etc.).
- One of the following documents:
a) Declaration of Value (Dichiarazione di Valore), released by the Italian
Embassy or Consulate of the country where you have obtained your diploma.
The Declaration of Value must state that 12 years of schooling have been
completed.
b) Statement of Comparability issued by CIMEA – Italy’s Credential Information
System. For detailed information on how to request such certificate visit
CIMEA's website
- Passport
- Italian Study Visa (D – immatricolazione)
- Pre-enrolment form (Form A) submitted at the Italian Embassy/Consulate
- Enrolment certificate (printable at the end of the online enrolment procedure in
Uniweb)
- Admission fee payment receipt
- Residence permit application receipt  this is the only document that cannot be
prepared in advance; it will be possible to apply for the Italian residence permit
only once arrived in Padova. (Please see n. 4)

Required documents – Master’s degree courses

- Certified Bachelor’s degree translated (Italian/ English) and legalised3 by the


competent authorities of the country where you have obtained your diploma.
Please check the directions set by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and
International Cooperation (MAECI).
- Certified Transcript of records translated (Italian/ English) and legalised by the
competent authorities of the country where you have obtained your diploma.
- One of the following document:
a) Declaration of Value (Dichiarazione di Valore), released by the Italian
Embassy or Consulate of the country where you have obtained your diploma.

2 Legalization, required in order to guarantee the document authenticity, is made by the Italian
Embassy/Consulate of the country where you have obtained your diploma. In case the country is
a member of the Hague Convention (1961), instead of legalization, an Apostille must be affixed
by competent authorities. Nor legalization neither apostille are required if the diploma is
awarded in countries where specific international agreements have been established: Belgium,
Denmark, France, Ireland (Brussels Convention 1987), Germany (Rome Convention 1969).

Embassy/Consulate of the country where you have obtained your diploma. In case the country is a

prepared in advance; it will be possible to apply for the Italian residence permit

Please note: it is your responsibility to start preparing the necessary documents as


soon as possible since some of them (ex. the Declaration of Value) may take up to
several months to be obtained.

3. COMING TO PADOVA

Situated in the heart of north-eastern Italy and less than 40 km from Venice, Padova is
one of the most beautiful cities in Italy, offering over 3,000 years of history.

here by airplane, train, car or bus.

4. ITALIAN RESIDENCE PERMIT

Application for the residence permit for study purposes must be made within 8 working
days from your arrival in Italy. Please check our website for further information.

The International Office - SAOS Desk will assist you with the application process and
will guide you to prepare the required documents and fill out the related forms (Kit).

You will have to deliver the residence permit application KIT and pay the tax at the
Postal Office. At the end of the procedure, you will be given the receipt of application
and you will be notified the data of your first appointment at the Questura (Police
Station).
Please note that the Italian residence permit will be issued for the length of your health
insurance and for no longer than one year.

5. HEALTH INSURANCE

To reside in Italy for more than 90 days, you will be asked to provide proof of health
insurance coverage. The health insurance coverage can be obtained:

1. on the basis of treaties/ bilateral agreements signed by Italy and your own country;
2. with a private health insurance. Please note that, in order to be valid, the private
health insurance contract must be valid in Italy; covers all the risks of illness; covers the
duration of your stay in Italy and has its date of release and expiry specified; indicates
the procedures to follow to ask for a reimbursement;
3. registering to the Italian National Health Service, on a voluntary basis. NHS
registration allows you to select a General practitioner (GP) and receive the same
standard of medical cover and treatment as Italian citizens.
Please note that the NHS registration is valid for a calendar year (1st January – 31st
December) regardless of the application date and the health coverage is valid only in
Italy.

6. ACCOMMODATION IN PADOVA

When looking for accommodation in Padova you have different options:

- Applying for a place in one of University of Padova’s Halls of Residences;


- Renting a room in a private Hall of Residence;
- Renting a room in one the private college the University has an agreement with;
- Searching for private accommodation on the international housing platform
HousingAnywhere;
- Renting a room in a private shared flat.

Temporary Accommodation (August - September)


If you would like to arrive in Padova in late August or early September (e.g. to attend
the Italian free language course), you can apply for temporary accommodation in one
of our Halls of Residences from 20 August to 17 September 2019, by sending a
request to accommodation@esu.pd.it by 15 May 2019. You will then be asked to fill
out a dedicated form. We recommend to apply as soon as possible since places are
limited.

Private Housing
Renting a room in a private flat shared with other students is a very popular choice
among Italian and international students in Padova. Prices for a private room in a
shared flat range from euro 200,00 to euro 350,00 (or higher) per month. Please note
that you will have to sign a formal contract when renting the room and you will also be
required to pay a deposit of one to three months’ rent before entering the apartment.
Always ask for a signed receipt of payment.
Please note: DO NOT make any payments from abroad in advance. Make sure to meet
with the person who is providing the accommodation when you arrive in Padova before
making any payments.

Websites
There are several private websites and Facebook groups that publish announcements
of rooms for rent. You will easily find them searching online.

Wherever students usually go (faculties, departments, canteens, bars, streets in the
Campus area) you will find advertisements for accommodation.

Your Social Network


Your network of personal contacts may become an important source of information.
Take every opportunity while getting to know people and making new friends to enquire
if they know about anyone who may have a vacant room for you.

7. STUDENT SERVICES

7.1 ITALIAN LANGUAGE COURSES

The University of Padova will offer a free-of-charge intensive Italian language course (2
weeks) in September 2019 to its international students. For general information on the
course, visit our Language Centre website

Registrations for the course starting in September 2019 will open during the summer.
You will be notified via email and, should you be interested in participating, we strongly
recommend you to register soon after the opening of the online registration since
limited places are available.

7.2 ITALIAN TAX CODE

The Italian tax code (codice fiscale) is an alphanumeric code which allows Italian
authorities to identify any person. The tax code is essential if you need to sign a
contract in Italy, to open a bank account, and to access many public services
(including health services). The official tax code is also needed to enrol at the
University of Padova.

The official tax code is issued by the Italian Revenue Agency (Agenzia delle Entrate).
The International Office - Welcome Unit will apply for a tax code on your behalf and will
send you the certificate via email. Should you already have an official tax code, please
inform us well in advance at international.admissions@unipd.it

7.3 BUDDY TUTORING SERVICE

Prior to your arrival in Padova, you will be assigned a Buddy, i.e. a Master degree
student who will welcome and support you on your arrival (ex. assisting during
registration and enrolment procedures, showing you the main university venues
Departments, offices, canteens, libraries, study rooms etc.).
Buddies can be contacted by email or by telephone for any issue regarding the
university life. Your Buddy will contact you first by email before your arrival,
approximatively by the end of August.

7.4 WELCOME DAYS

The University of Padova will organize orientation programmes for all its new
international students. Students will be introduced to the University and the city of

Padova and will be provided with all the information needed to ensure a great and
fruitful stay. Introductory general Welcome meetings will be followed by parallel
welcome sessions at the University Schools. Detailed and updated information will be
available in our website

7.5. PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSISTANCE SERVICE

The Psychological Assistance Service is a point of reference for any students who
encounter psychological difficulties during their studies (anxiety, relationship problems,
academic performance). It provides counselling so that students can play a productive
role in University life and reap the benefits of their studies, and valuable information
and support regarding addictions (smoking, alcohol, drugs, eating disorders etc.). The
Service, is completely free of charge for all students of the University of Padova.

8. FEES AND FUNDING

8.1 TUITION FEES

Unless you have been awarded a fee-waiver or a scholarship including also a fee-
waiver, you will be charged an annual tuition fee for each year of your degree course.

Your tuition fee will differ depending on the degree course. Details on tuition fees, as
well as information about how and when to pay, are available both on our web pages
and on the relevant degree course page.

8.2 FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

The University of Padova offers several funding opportunities for international students,
for details and up-to-date information, please refer to our website.
Read the information carefully in order to make sure you gather the requested
documents for the scholarship programme you are interested in

If you would like to benefit from a Veneto Regional Scholarship and/or a fee-waiver
based on your family income, you need to present the so-called ISEE certificate.
Detailed information about application procedure and required documents to obtain
ISEE are available in our website.
