SERIAL NUMBER: SH1612

SUBJECT TITLE: General Mathematics

SUBJECT DESCRIPTION: General Mathematics promotes development of knowledge, skills, and understanding how
to solve problems involving rational, exponential, and logarithmic functions. It also gives
emphasis on how to solve business-related problems and how to apply concepts to real-life
situations. In addition are comprehension of the main concepts of propositional; logic,
syllogisms, fallacies and key methods of proof and disproof.

SUBJECT OBJECTIVES: After successful completion of this subject, the students will be able to:

1. demonstrate understanding of the key concepts of different functions such as rational,

inverse, exponential and logarithmic functions,
2. construct mathematical models to represent real-life situations using different functions
such as rational, inverse, exponential and logarithmic functions,
3. investigate, analyze and solve problems involving simple and compound interests and
simple and general annuities using appropriate business and financial instruments,
4. use appropriate financial instruments involving stocks and bonds in formulating
conclusions and making decisions.
5. analyze, investigate and solve problems about concepts in Mathematics and Logic, and
6. apply mathematical concepts and logic as well as methods of proof and disproof in real-
life situations, problems and arguments.
