includes patient’s personal information, medical and dental history, treatment plan, patient

education case reports and statistics. This makes your dental practice more convenient,

efficient and precise, thus promoting paperless office.

CHAPTER I

PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction

In today’s modern age where computer has become a way of life, it is evident

that a majority of the country’s institutions still do not adapt the high te

c h n o l o g y . Particularly in most Dental clinic facilities, daily Dental clinic

transactions are still done on paper. We all know that modern Dental clinics are

now operating at great pace striving to serve as many patients as possible with the

best of their abilities. But as the years rolled by, the number of patients has grown and

various Dental cases arise that the manual method of managing patients’ records, prescriptions,

billing and appointment schedule, is no longer practical. In this study, we hope to develop a web-

based application that will minimize all paper works and manual records keeping, therefore

allowing dentist and staff ease in keeping track of patients, reducing patients’ waiting time and
increasing the number of patients served – a system that is fully automated, user-

friendly, time effective and efficient

Background of the study

Els dental clinic was established since 2014’s almost 6 years of existence in the field of Dental

Clinic. The owner of the Clinic was Dr. Elwin Bolbina Sardinia a 37 years old dentist as of now. He

has a wife named Mrs Jenneth Sardinia and they have one son named Mark Laurence Sardinia, it

is Located at Ph 7-B Pkg. 2 Blk 38 lot 45 Bagong Silang Caloocan City. When he was not married

yet Dr. Elwin started as an employee in many dental clinics one of its work place was in SM

Fairview, to invest his own equipment for dentistry. As the years goes by he achieved the enough

equipment to start his own business. The Dental clinic named Els after his friends teased him as

Els when they are on college.

The Clinic operates at 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. The Dental Clinic is managed by the

owner and His wife Mrs Jenneth Sardinia, She serves as Dr.Elwin assistant and secretary

whenever they have a patient. The store also has CCTV surveillance for their security and

television that entertains the patients while they are waiting.

The service they offer are Teeth dentures(Dentures are prosthetic devices constructed to replace

missing teeth, and are supported by the surrounding soft and hard tissues of the oral cavity),

Dental Restoration (A dental restoration or dental filling is a treatment to restore the function,

integrity, and morphology of missing tooth structure resulting from caries or external trauma as
well as to the replacement of such structure supported by dental implants.) ,(RCT) or Root Canal

Treatment (Root canal treatment is needed when an injury ora large cavity exposes

the tooth's pulp and the root becomes infected or inflamed),, Oral surgery (Dental surgery is any

of a number of medical procedures that involve artificially modifying dentition; in other

words, surgery of the teeth, gums and jaw bones.), Jacket Crown(a type of artificial, tooth-

collared dental crown made of acrylic or porcelain), Fixed bridge (A bridge is made up of two or

more crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap -- these two or more anchoring teeth are

called abutment teeth ), Oral prophylaxis (A dental prophylaxis is a cleaning procedure performed

to thoroughly clean the teeth. Prophylaxis is an important dental treatment for halting the

progression of periodontal disease and gingivitis.),Teeth Whitening (removing stains from teeth).

Extractions (A severely damaged tooth may need to be extracted. Permanent teeth may also need

to be removed for orthodontic treatment.), Sealants (Dental sealants, usually applied to the

chewing surface of teeth, act as a barrier against decay-causing bacteria. Most often, the sealants

are applied to the back teeth).The service they offered is based on the patient’s case and tooth

damages. They also always advice their patients to brush their teeth 2-3 times a day for a good oral

hygiene. The dental Clinic daily sales is depends on the number of patients and services they gave.

They have 5-6 patients a day and the estimated price of its services each patient is 500, but its

depends on the services they rendered

The main problem of our chosen client is how they can they manage all the

records manually and to keep the records safe. Sometimes they can’t find the old records of their

patient and it is more hassle if they have a lot of patience waiting. It is also difficult for them to

fill it up using hand written and sometimes it’s unreadable. It is hard to manage when the records
of their patients are really old and they are handling a lot of records already. Especially when

their old patient come back for another teeth services and they misplace the records they will

need to get new information for a new record. Many customers urging for fast and accurate

services that’s why we proposed them a Dental Clinic Management System for them to make

their Service organized and more efficient.

We choose Els Dental clinic as a client to conduct research. The owner of the dental clinic is Dr.

Elwin Bolbina Sardinia. He was born on May 8, 1982, He’s married to Jenneth Sardenia and they

have one child named Marl Laurence Sardenia

He start working as an employee to invest some equipment for dentist use, after that they

planned to start their own business, the first thing they considered on starting a business is the

place to stand for a dental clinic.
