II. PROJECT RATIONALE

Research is a systematic process of investigation, analysis and interpretation. This kind of

sustained focus may not be easy for most students because they need a thorough understanding of it
for them to be able to write a full-blown research paper. Although students are permitted to ask their
previous teachers anytime for help, they may not be able to answer all their questions especially if their
teachers do not have a first-hand experience on research writing. The lack of basic and fundamental
knowledge in research writing deters teachers and students from conducting a research study.

Likewise, even the internet could not help the students at all. It is very interesting how internet
makes it look easy for students to collect information even though they cannot browse all the texts on it
unlike reading pages of books personally. They may be able to find some answers on the internet but
not all their questions can be answered instantly by Google. Thus, it is not an assurance otherwise that
students can write a research paper with the presence of the internet as it has limitations.

Apparently, students find research as a dull subject because they feel like none can help them at
all so they just keep their concepts and ideas to themselves. I believe that students can be able to buoy
their hopes if they will be guided throughout the research writing period. Thus, as per mandated by the
Governance of Basic Education Act of 2001 (RA 9155) that the Department of Education shall continue
to uphold in improving the quality of basic education by engaging in different research activities, this 2-
day Seminar Workshop on Research Advising and Content Critiquing with the theme “Equipping Senior
High Students with Research Skills in fostering Research Writing” will help grade 11 students in
particular to collaborate among themselves and increase their knowledge about research. Moreover,
this training will also encourage teachers to write action research that will help improve the teaching
and learning process.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

Specifically this activity aims to:

a. Identify the methods and techniques use in a quantitative research

b. Craft and evaluate a well-rounded research question
c. Help understand the purpose and basic requirements of an effective literature review
d. Familiarize the American Phonological Association (APA) format, and
e. Equip students with fundamental and basic knowledge in crafting researches.
III. METHODOLOGY

For students to be fully equipped with skills, it is ensured that the invited key speakers are well-
verse in their assigned topics. Moreover, it is ensured as well that they experienced research writing so
they can share their first-hand experience to the participants. The Seminar workshop will begin with the
registration of participants and opening program. The first speaker, Mr Mark Anthony F. Colasito will
provide insights about the duties and responsibilities of research adviser. This will immediately followed
by the second speaker Mr Ronald De Lemios, SHS Teacher in Paracale National High School. He will
educate the participants about the different research methodologies and data collection techniques that
researchers use in quantitative research method.Mr De Lemios, will also point out the importance of
using and following such format like the APA. He will introduce this format to the participants as this will
be used by the students in writing their research papers. On the other hand, the third or last speaker
from the same school,Ms Joellyn Apolinario will help the students to analyse their data and help them
decide as to what statistical tools may be appropriate to their research papers. Every after the
discussion of the speakers a simple workshop and exhibits of outputs will follow.
The training will last for two days but no classes will be interrupted as this seminar-workshop
will be conducted and intended for grade 11 students only. Other students and teachers who are not
related to this activity will remain on their respective classes. In addition, Grade 11 advisers and subject
teachers will be given duties or tasks related to the program. Other teachers, however, are encouraged
also to attend in this program during their vacant time. The length of discussion of every topic may vary
depending on the topic being discussed by the resource speakers. They may discuss their topics through
the use of a PowerPoint presentation and may provide various activities (e.g. lectures, practicum,
orientation, coaching, workshop and utilization of instructional materials) to the student-participants for
effective sharing of knowledge and information.
