1 NEW FEATURES AVAILABLE TO ALL PHAST USERS
The features described in this section are available to all users, including Phast Lite users and users who
do not have a license for the 3D Explosion modelling.

1.1 Improvements to the Long Pipeline Model

Data structure simplified, with Section node removed
In the previous version, every Long Pipeline Equipment item had a Section node underneath it. The data
for valves were defined in the Section dialog rather than in the Long Pipeline equipment dialog, and the
Breach Scenarios were defined under the Section node instead of directly under the Long Pipeline node.
You could not insert additional Section nodes for a Long Pipeline.

In v7.2, the Section node has been removed. The data for valves are now defined in the dialog for the
Long Pipeline equipment item, in the Long pipe tab section, and the Breach Scenarios are defined under
the Long Pipeline node.

Option to specify size of breach in either absolute or relative terms

In previous versions, the size of a Breach Scenario was always given as the Relative aperture, i.e. the
area of the hole or break as a fraction of the internal cross-sectional area of the pipe. In v7.2, the
Scenario tab for a Breach now contains a Breach sizing method option, as shown in the illustration
below, which gives you a choice between specifying the Actual size (i.e. the diameter of the breach), or
giving the Relative size (i.e. using the same method as in previous versions). If you choose Actual size,
the Aperture field will be enabled and mandatory.

More options for modelling the performance of the isolation system

In previous versions, there was a Valves close? checkbox in the Valves input data for the Long Pipeline
Section, and you could use this to choose between modelling all valves as operating successfully on
depend, or modelling all valves as failing to operate. The setting for this field applied to all Breach
Scenarios for the pipeline, so if you wanted to model and compare both situations, you would have to
create two versions of the Long Pipeline, with different settings for each.

In v7.2, the Valves close? checkbox has been replaced by an

Isolation field in the form of a drop-down list, as shown in the
illustration. This field is in the Scenario tab of the Breach Scenario
dialog, which means that you can model and compare different
levels of shutdown performance by defining different Scenarios
under the same Long Pipeline.

The Isolation field includes two options for modelling partial isolation, in addition to the options that
existed in previous versions for modelling successful operation of all valves (Full Isolation) and complete
failure of isolation (No Isolation). The modelling for the Successful upstream isolation option assumes
that all upstream valves operate successfully while all downstream valves fail to operate, while the
modelling for the Successful downstream isolation option assumes the opposite situation.

If no valves have been defined in the Long pipe tab of the Long Pipeline dialog, then the Isolation field
will be disabled.

| RELEASE NOTE | Phast version 7.2 | Page 2

No limitations on editing the pipeline route
In the previous version, you could not change the number of points on the pipeline route after you had
drawn it on the map. You could change the coordinates of the points, but not add or delete any.

In v7.2, the table in the Geometry tab of the Long

pipeline dialog includes Add and Delete options in
the toolbar above the table, and also a new record
* option at the bottom of the table. The Add option
in the toolbar will insert a row above the currently-
selected row, whereas the new record option will
add a row to the end of the table.

1.2 Choice of models for in-building explosion

The In-building release tab section of
the Building type dialog now contains
an Indoor explosion model section,
as shown in the illustration.

The Indoor explosion model field

allows you to choose between the
modelling from two editions of NFPA
68:

• The 2007 edition is the

modelling that was used in
previous versions of the
program, in which the
maximum pressure rise inside the building is calculated as a function of the internal surface area
of the building, the ventilation area (defined by the Exhaust diameter), and the laminar burning
velocity of the released material. This option is applicable to low-strength buildings that cannot
withstand an overpressure higher than 0.1 bar.

• The 2013 edition is a new option for the modelling. It is applicable to non-choked flow through the
venting panel, with a maximum pressure rise of 0.5 bar. The maximum pressure rise is calculated
as a function of the dimensions of the building, the surface area of obstacles, the ventilation area,
the height of the vent panel, and the fluid properties and laminar burning velocity of the released
material.

The fields for Internal obstacle to building area ratio and Vent panel location will be enabled and
mandatory if the model is set to NFPA 68 (2013). If you set the Vent panel location to Roof, the height
of the vent will be taken as the height of the building. If you set the location to Wall, the Vent panel
height will be enabled and mandatory.

For details of the modelling, refer to the technical documentation supplied with the program.

1.3 New style and features for Reports
The main changes are in the reporting for Scenarios, for which the program now gives you greater
control over what is included in a Reports View, and for which the reports have been grouped and
reorganised. The style of the Reports View has also changed, as shown in the illustration below. The new
style involves different techniques for operations such as moving through the report, changing the zoom
level, and searching for a term in the report.

A dialog now appears when you select the Reports option for an icon in the Models tab
When a node in the Models tab is
selected, a Select dialog will appear
when you select Reports from the Home
tab of the Ribbon Bar or press Ctrl+R.
This dialog allows you to choose which
Scenarios, Weathers and types of report
should be included in the Report View.

By default a Reports View will include all

of the Scenarios under the current node,
all of the Weathers that are selected for
the active Study, and all available types
of report.

If the default settings are not suitable,

you can use the various screens in the
Select dialog to include other Scenarios
under the active Study, and to exclude selected Weathers and selected types of report. The first screen
in the dialog covers the selection of Scenarios, the second screen covers the selection of Weathers, and
the last screen covers the selection of types of report.

| RELEASE NOTE | Phast version 7.2 | Page 4

You can click on Finish in any screen to generate the Reports View with the current selections, or click on
Next or Back to view and change the selections in a different screen.

When the Reports View opens, it will be added to the set of Document Views. You can have more than
one Reports View open at any time, and you can arrange the different Views in any way that is suitable
for you.

If the node selected in the Study Tree is not a node in the Models tab, the Select dialog will not appear
when you choose the Reports option and instead the Reports View will open immediately. The Reports
for these types of node give the input values for all selected nodes.

The reports for a Scenario are organised in groups inside the Reports View
A given Scenario or set of Scenarios may have many Reports available, and to make them easier to work
with, they are organised within groups, where each group covers a different category of results. Each
group has its own tab header at the bottom of the Reports View, as shown in the illustration on the
previous page. Within the tab for a given group, there are tab headers for the individual Reports within
that group.

For a set of Scenario nodes with results, the reports will be divided into up to four groups:

• The Summary group, which covers special reports which contain both input data and principal
consequence results.

• The Input group, which covers input data only.

• The Equipment group, which covers all types of detailed consequence results for storage
Scenarios.

• •The Standalones group, which covers all types of detailed consequence results for standalone
Scenarios.

The techniques and tools for working with the reports have changed
In the previous version, most of the tools for working with the reports appeared in the General tab of the
Reporting Tools group in the Ribbon Bar.

This tab is no longer present, and the tools for searching and for page-navigation now appear along the
bottom of the Reports View itself, as shown in the illustration on the previous page.

The Ribbon Bar does still contain some options for

working with reports, but these are now in the
Eport tab of the Report Tools group, as shown.

These options allow you to export the current

report to an Excel or Word file, and to print the
current report.

If you choose the Preview option in the Print section of the Export tab, a Print Preview window will open.
You can preview the appearance of the printed report, adjust the settings, and then click on Print when
you are ready to send the report to the selected printer.

For further details in the Help: In the Index tab, enter “Reports”. The Help gives a full description of
working with reports, and on the contents of each type of report.

| RELEASE NOTE | Phast version 7.2 | Page 5

1.4 Ribbon Bar contains options for inserting items in the tree
In previous versions, the only way to add a new node to the Study Tree was to use the Insert option in
the right-click menu. In v7.2, the Home tab of the Ribbon Bar contains an Insert gallery with icons for
the types of node that can be inserted under the node that is currently selected in the Study Tree. For
the illustration below, the node selected in the Study Tree is a Study in Phast Lite, and the Insert gallery
contains icons for a Folder, a Pressure vessel, an Atmospheric storage tank, and a Long pipeline. Click on
an icon in the gallery to add a node of that type to the tree.

If you hold the cursor over an icon, a tooltip will appear as shown giving the name of that type of icon.

1.5 Files from all versions of v6.* from v6.54 onwards can be
upgraded
In the previous version, only *.psu files from v6.7 of the program could be upgraded. If you wanted to
upgrade a *.psu file from an earlier version of v6.*, you had to upgrade it in v6.7 first, and then open it
in v7.*.

You can now upgrade *.psu files from any version from v6.54 onwards.

However, you cannot upgrade a compressed *.psc file from any version of v6.*. If you want to upgrade
a *.psc file, you should first open it in a version from v6.54 onwards and save it as a *.psu file.

| RELEASE NOTE | Phast version 7.2 | Page 6

New Features for users of the full Phast program

These features are not applicable to users of Phast Lite.

1.6 Choice of CCPS method for standalone BLEVE Blast Scenario

The BLEVE blast parameters tab of
the dialog for the standalone BLEVE
Blast Scenario now contains a CCPS
method option, as shown in the
illustration.

Different methods for modelling

BLEVE blasts are specified in the first
edition and the second edition of the
CCPS publication Guidelines for Evaluating the Characteristics of Vapor Cloud Explosions, Flash
Fires and Bleves. Previous versions of the program used the First edition method.

If the CCPS method is set to the new Section edition option, the Elevation, Radius and Length fields
in the Storage conditions tab of the dialog will be enabled and mandatory. For a spherical vessel, the
Elevation is defined as the elevation of the centre of the vessel above ground level, whereas for a
cylindrical vessel, the Elevation is defined as the elevation of the bottom of the vessel above ground
level.

For details of the modelling, refer to the technical documentation supplied with the program.

1.7 Able to define multiple Dangerous Dose values for a toxic

material component
The dialog for a material component allows you to
define six dose values of interest: the
Dangerous toxic load, and the five levels for
Dangerous dose. The effect distances and the
exposure durations for the different dose values
are reported in the Consequence Summary
Report, the Outdoor Toxic Report and the Indoor
Toxic Report. The results are calculated if the
material for the Scenario is a pure component,
and are not calculated for a Mixture.

The results only calculated for the Reports if the

Probit calculation method in the Toxic
parameters is set to either Prefer dangerous dose
or Use dangerous dose. The results will not be calculated if the field is set to the default value of Use
probit or to Prefer probit.

Note: when defining the load and dose values for use in the Reports, you should give the values in
increasing order, setting the lowest value for the Dangerous toxic load field, and giving any higher
values in order from Dangerous dose 2 through to Dangerous dose 6. You do not have to define
values for all six fields, but the values that you do give should increase as described. In addition, you
should not leave any gaps in the sequence, i.e. you should not define values for Dangerous dose 2 and
Dangerous dose 4 but leave Dangerous dose 3 blank.

2 OTHER DIFFERENCES AND BUG FIXES

2.1 Rearrangement of tabs and options in the Ribbon Bar

There have been some minor changes to the Ribbon Bar.

Main set of tabs includes a new tab called Settings

Some options that were previously on other tabs have been
moved to a new tab called Settings, which is shown in the
illustration This tab is always present in the Ribbon Bar.

All of the options that are in the GIS section of the Settings
tab were previously in the Tools tab of the Ribbon Bar.

The Diagnostics option in the Calculation section of the tab will only be present if you have a license for
the 3D Explosion modelling. The option opens the Diagnostic dialog, which allows you to choose the level
of diagnostic results produced for the 3D Explosion calculations. The field in this dialog was previously in
the Calculation tab of the workspace dialog.

The option to display labels on the GIS has been moved to the General tab of the GIS Tools groups
In previous versions, the option to display labels in the GIS for items of map-based data was located in
the Input tab of the GIS Tools group in the Ribbon Bar, where it was in the form of a Label checkbox.
The Input tab is present only in the GIS Tools group for the GIS Input View, and is not present in the
GIS Tools group for a GIS Results View, and this meant that the labels could not be displayed in a GIS
Results View.

In v7.2, the Label option is in the General tab of the GIS Tools, where it has the form of a toggleable
button. In the illustration below, the button is shown as pressed in, which means that an item is
currently selected in the current GIS View, and the option to display the label for that option is turned
on.

The General tab is present in the GIS Tools for all types of GIS View, which means that labels can be
displayed for GIS Results Views as well as for the GIS Input View.

2.2 Some fields in dialogs have been moved or removed
Fields moved from the Fireball tab
The fields Use vessel burst pressure? and Vessel burst pressure - gauge have been removed from
the Fireball tab of the storage Equipment and Scenario dialogs, and now appear in the Scenario tab for
the Catastrophic rupture and the User defined source Scenarios.

Fields removed from dialogs

Some dialogs in the previous version contained fields that were not relevant to the program. In v7.2,
these fields are no longer present.

The fields that have been removed are as follows:

• Radiation dose for fireball risk effects in Constants tab of Fireball and BLEVE Blast
parameters dialog.

• Phase to be released in Material tab of User defined source dialog.

Not applicable to Phast Lite.

2.3 Bug Fixes
There are several bug fixes in the modelling and the user-interface.

For a complete list of bugs fixed since the previous version, you can access the Customer Portal using
the link in the Help tab of the Ribbon Bar. To log into the portal you must enter a valid user name and
password, which you can obtain from your local DNV GL Software office.

The D number given for each item is a unique reference number. If you require more information on a
particular item, please quote the D number when you contact the Support Desk.

D-05933 Erratic calculations of release rate with multi-component modelling

Description Some aspects of the calculations of the discharge coefficient always used pseudo-
component modelling, even when multi-component modelling had been selected.
This could result in erratic predictions of the release rate for a Leak Scenario,
which could sometimes cause the discharge calculations to fail with an error
message. These erratic predictions would not occur if the option to Use specified
discharge coefficient was selected in the input data for the Scenario.

The calculations of the discharge coefficient will now use either pseudo-component
modelling or multi-component modelling throughout, depending on the selection in
the input data.

D-06271 State of data-completeness shown for Long Pipeline nodes not updated
automatically when option to model heat transfer is changed in the Discharge
parameters

Description The Long pipe tab section of the Discharge parameters dialog includes a Model
heat transfer checkbox field. If this box is checked, then the Construction
material and Pipe wall thickness fields will be enabled and mandatory in the
Long pipe tab section for the Long Pipeline Equipment dialog. If the box field is not
checked, the two fields will be disabled.

By default the box is not checked and the two fields in the Long Pipeline
Equipment dialog are disabled. If you insert a Long Pipeline Equipment item and
complete the input data, and then edit the Discharge parameters and check the
box, you would find that the Long Pipeline Equipment node was still shown as
complete in the tree, but if you opened the dialog you would see that the Long
pipe tab was shown as incomplete, with the two fields as mandatory. This has now
been fixed, and the data status is updated correctly when the parameters are
changed.

3 ALERTS AND WORKAROUNDS
There are some known bugs that have not been fixed in v7.2, and some aspects of the program that
may give behaviour that you do not expect, e.g. because of minor enhancements or minor changes in
the modelling that may produce slight differences in the results.

For the most up-to-date list of known bugs and other issues, you can access the Customer Portal using
the link in the Help tab of the Ribbon Bar. To log into the portal you must enter a valid user name and
password, which you can obtain from your local DNV GL Software office.

The D, SI or TK number given for each item is a unique reference number. If you require more
information on a particular item, please quote the reference number when you contact the Support Desk.

D-02380 No warning if you select more than 11 Dispersion Report columns to display

Description The workspace dialog has a Reports tab with a Dispersion Report Columns array
that lets you choose which of the available fields to include in the Dispersion
Report. The Report can display a maximum of 11 columns, but the workspace
dialog allows you to select any number of columns, and will not warn you that only
the first 11 selected columns will appear in the report.

D-02958 Calculations for immediate ignition effects are not performed if errors occur in the
dispersion calculations

Description Immediate ignition effects such as a fireball or an early explosion can be

considered as independent of the dispersion calculations, since they occur before
the cloud has started to disperse. In version 6.* of the program, if an error
occurred in the dispersion calculations then the immediate effects would still be
modelled, but this does not happen in v7.2.

D-04338 The program crashes if you insert an External Connection of type KML while the
coordinate system is set to “Rectified Skew Orthomorphic”

Description The crash may occur as soon as you insert the External Connection, or it may only
occur when you try to insert a Feature Class under the External Connection.

If you choose a different coordinate system, you will be able to insert a KML
External Connection successfully.

D-04862 Time-varying discharge calculations cannot be run for hydrogen fluoride

Atmospheric Storage Tank Equipment items

Description The acid association modelling used for hydrogen fluoride is not compatible with
the time-varying discharge calculations for atmospheric storage conditions.

If you try to run a time-varying Scenario for an Atmospheric Storage Tank item
with hydrogen fluoride selected as the material, error messages will be written to
the Output View about flash calculations failing.

| RELEASE NOTE | Phast version 7.2 | Page 11

D-05442 Confusing error message on opening a file that has a link to external GIS data that
is not present

Description If you open a file that has an External Connection defined to a source of GIS data
and the GIS data is not present at the location specified for the External
Connection, two error messages will be written to the Output View. The first
message gives the path and name of the missing file, and the second refers to
“database” and “warehouse” connections. These are terms used by the GIS system
for its data connections, and do not refer to a database of Scenario results or to a
warehouse defined as a Building.

D-05717 Final velocity for pressurised instantaneous release may be calculated as zero

Description If the program calculates a negative expansion energy for a pressurised

instantaneous release, it will set the final velocity to zero. A pressurised release
would always have a non-zero outflow velocity in reality, and in this situation the
program generates a warning message.

D-05859 Pool vaporisation properties incomplete on upgrading a System Materials file from
v6.54 onwards

Description If you use the Admin Materials program to upgrade a System Materials *.xpu file
from v6.54 onwards, the properties for pool vaporisation will be shown as unset
and mandatory.

D-07397 “Criterion for halting dispersion model” is enabled in Phast Dispersion parameters

Description The Other tab of the Dispersion parameters dialog contains the field “Criterion for
halting dispersion model”. This field is enabled and gives a range of options, but it
is not relevant to Phast.

D-07974 Arrow for wind direction in Weather Folder dialog points in the wrong direction

Description If you have a license for the 3D Explosion extension, the Weather Folder dialog will
contain input fields that allow you to choose the wind directions to model for the
effect contour calculations.

The dialog includes a graphical depiction of the selected wind directions,

representing each direction with an arrow. The arrow-head is at the wrong end of
the line, so the line for the north wind direction has the arrow pointing towards the
north, whereas the north wind direction models the wind coming from the north.

| RELEASE NOTE | Phast version 7.2 | Page 12

D-08188 Toxic Footprint graphs for a mixture can give incorrect results if a mixture
component is selected as the material to track

Description If the Material to track for an item with a toxic mixture is to the mixture as a
whole, the Toxic Footprint graphs will give results that are consistent with the
other toxic results. However, if the Material to track is set to one of the
components of the mixture and the mixture components have very different values
for the Probit N, then the Footprint graphs will incorrect results which are not
consistent with the other toxic results.

D-08378 Change in System Material settings for the Flammable/toxic flag for a Material not
reflected automatically for existing Equipment items and Scenarios

Description When you are defining a new Equipment item or Scenario, the status of some of
the fields in the dialog depends on whether the Material that you select is defined
in the System Materials as flammable or toxic. For example, if the Material is not
defined as toxic, then in the Dispersion tab, the three Averaging time for
reports fields will be disabled, and the list of options for the Averaging time for
concentration of interest will not include the Toxic averaging time.

If you edit the System Materials and change the setting for the Flammable/toxic
flag for a particular Material, you will find that the dialog for an existing Equipment
item or Scenario that uses that Material does not get updated automatically to
reflect the changed properties. The Material tab will show the correct
Flammable/Toxic icons for the Material, but the status of other fields will reflect the
properties at the time that you first selected the Material for the Equipment item.

There are manual steps that you can take to update the status of the fields: in the
Material tab for the Equipment item, select a different Material, and then select
original Material again. You can do this without having to OK and reopen the
dialog. Whenever you change the selection of Material, the program updates the
status of the fields.

D-08402 V7.01 workspace file with a Study with a specified release building defined is
shown as incomplete on upgrade

Description In v7.01 the Bund, building and terrain tab for a Study included the option to
specify a release building, but this option is no longer present at the Study level.

If you upgrade a v7.01 file that includes a Study that has this option set, the Study
will be shown as incomplete. You should upgrade the v7.01 file in v7.11 first, and
then upgrade it in v7.2.

| RELEASE NOTE | Phast version 7.2 | Page 13

D-08447 No warning on selecting building wake modelling for an Equipment item about
change of release direction for existing continuous Scenarios

Description Not applicable to Phast Lite.

You specify that you want to model the effects of a building wake using the
Building wake effect field in the Bund, building and terrain tab for a Source
Equipment item. This setting will apply to all Scenarios under the Equipment item.

If the Building wake effect field is set to None for a particular Equipment item, then
the Outdoor release direction field in the dialog for any continuous Scenario under
the Equipment item will give a range of options for the direction, including
Horizontal, Vertical, and Angled from horizontal. However, if the Building wake
effect field is set to Roof/lee, then the only option will be Horizontal, and if the
Building wake effect field is set to Chimney, then the only option will be Vertical.

When you select one of the building wake options for an Equipment item, the
Outdoor release direction field for any continuous Scenarios under the item will
automatically be changed to the single direction applicable to that building wake
option, but the program will not warn you that this change has been made.

D-08500 Program may crash if you do not restart the program immediately after changing
the language to Chinese

Description If you use the Display Language option in the Tools tab of the Ribbon Bar to
change the language to Chinese and then open an existing workspace file, the
program may crash when you try to exit from the program.

To avoid this issue, you should always exit from the program and restart it
immediately after changing the language to Chinese.

D-08592 When inserting a connection to an external GIS database, the program allows you
to choose a data source that is not of the type that you selected

Description In the Insert dialog for inserting an External Connection to a GIS database, you
must select the Connection type (i.e. Access, CAD, ArcView, etc.). However, when
you then browse to select the database file, the File Browse dialog allows you to
select any type of file.

If the file that you select is not in the correct format for the selected Connection
type, the program will not give an error and will proceed with inserting a node for
the External Connection in the Study Tree, but you will not be able to view any
data for this connection in the GIS Views.

| RELEASE NOTE | Phast version 7.2 | Page 14

D-08866 Problems in consequence calculations if a Material to Track is set at the Scenario
level and you change the selection of Material at the Equipment level

Description You can set the Material to Track at the Scenario level, where the list of options
depends on the components of the mixture that is selected as the Material in the
Equipment dialog.

If you edit the Equipment and choose a different Material, the value for Material to
Track set at the Scenario level might not be valid, and you will get errors in the
consequence calculations about the component not being part of the mixture.

The Scenario dialog does not allow you to reset the Material to Track field so you
can select a valid component. However, you can use the Grid View to do this: set
the Grid Filter to the appropriate type of Scenario, and then select the Material to
Track field in the grid and use the Delete key to clear the value.

D-09474 Flash fire envelope not displayed in GIS Results if Plot is set to “Effect Zone Only”

Description In the GIS Consequence View, if the Plot option is set to Effect Zone Only in the
Consequence tab of the Ribbon Bar and you then set the Event to Flash Fire
Envelope, nothing will be displayed in the GIS View. In order to view the footprint,
you must make sure that Plot is set to either Shape Only or Shape & Effect Zone
before you set the Event to Flash Fire Envelope.

D-10179 Incomplete data in hidden tab for an unused explosion method can cause
Equipment and Scenarios to appear incomplete in the Study Tree

Description In the input data for a flammable Equipment Item or Scenario, the Explosion
method field in the Explosion parameters tab allows you to choose between four
different methods. If the option is set to anything except Multi-Energy: Uniform
confined, an additional tab will appear in the dialog, with inputs that are specific to
that method. For the Multi-Energy: User-defined and Baker-Strehlow-Tang
methods, this tab can have mandatory fields, depending on the settings.

If you set the explosion method to Multi-Energy: User-defined or Baker-Strehlow-

Tang, set values for the method that cause some fields to become mandatory,
leave these mandatory fields incomplete, and then change the explosion method to
a different option such as Multi-Energy: Uniform confined, the tab with the
incomplete fields will not appear in the dialog and the dialog will appear complete,
but when you OK the dialog, you will find that the nodes for the Equipment Item
and Scenarios appear incomplete in the Study Tree.

To stop the nodes appearing as incomplete in the Study Tree, you must change
the explosion method back to the method that has incomplete data, and change
the settings so that the data are complete. If you then change the explosion
method back to the method that you want to use, the nodes will appear complete
in the tree when you OK the dialog.

D-10264 Phast v7.11 may crash if you have v7.2 open at the same time and you copy data
to the clipboard in v7.2

Description If you have both v7.11 and v7.2 of the program open at the same time, and you
copy data to the clipboard while working in v7.2, you might find that v7.11 crashes
when you return to it and start clicking on features in the program window.

When you click on a feature in the program window, the program checks the
contents of the clipboard to see if those contents are relevant to the current
feature. However, the format of the clipboard contents have changed between
v7.11 and v7.2. The v7.2 format is not compatible with v7.11, and v7.11 may
crash in the process of checking the clipboard. To avoid this type of crash, you
should avoid using the Copy option in v7.2 while you have v7.11 open.

D-10365 “Greyed out” cases associated with a change in material mode (from PC to MC
mode) can still be run

Description If a “Time Varying release” or “Spill” case is initially set up in PC mode,

changing the mode to MC results in the case being “greyed out” – meaning it
cannot be run. This is correct and expected behaviour. However, it still is possible
to run these scenarios from the “scenario level”. If this is done, these results
should be ignored as they will be erroneous.

SI 8519 Dialogs cannot display all the text with some display settings

Description This can happen if the DPI (dots per

inch) setting field in the Display
Advanced Settings is set to 120 or
another large value instead of to 96. This
confuses the display of the dialogs so
that part of the window will not be
displayed and the mouse will no longer
work on the OK and Cancel buttons.

The workaround is to set the dots per

inch setting back to 96, as shown.

SI 10044 Premature termination for time-varying vapour line ruptures

Description This bug is not new and was also present in previous Phast releases.

For some vapour line rupture scenarios, the calculations terminate far too early,
resulting in a discharged mass that is far too small. No warning or error is issued

to inform the user about the problem.

Pure vapour line ruptures are modelled in two regimes: Regime 1 models the
propagation of the front from the rupture plane to the upstream end of the pipe,
typically of relatively short duration. Regime 2 then models the depressurisation of
the vessel. In some cases, there is an inconsistency in thermodynamics between
regime 1 and 2, and subsequently the model terminates prematurely at the start
of regime 2.

TK-10440 If you upgrade a *.psu file, lock the Grid View and save the file as a *.psux file,
the *.psux file will not have the grid locked

Description The locked state of the Grid View is not part of the workspace data saved when a
*.psu file is upgraded and saved as a *.psux file.

TK-10561 The Admin Parameters program is unable to upgrade Spanish or Chinese

Parameters from v6.* or v7.0, or to upgrade Construction Materials that were
added or renamed.

Description The upgrade function in the Admin Parameters program allows you to select a
Parameters file from a previous version, and it will then change the values in the
v7.1 Parameters file to match those from the previous Parameters file.

In this upgrade process the program will only change values for nodes that have
the same name in the two files, and it will not create nodes in the v7.1 file if it
finds nodes in the old file that do not exist in the v7.1 file.

This approach means that it is not possible to perform the upgrade with the
Spanish or Chinese versions of the Parameters files. These files have node-names
that do not match the node-names in previous versions of the program, because
the node-names in these versions were always in English. If you are using Spanish
or Chinese as the display language and you try to upgrade a Parameters file, no
changes will be made to the values.

This approach also means that values for a Construction Material will not be
upgraded if the name used for the Construction Material has changed between the
two versions, and that Construction Materials that you added in the previous
version will not be added to the v7.1 file during the upgrade.
