Important Notes
The template above identifies key information and points for consideration when preparing
a CV for an Investment Bank. It is not intended to be used as a Warwick template.
Investment Banks want to see individuality so it is important that the content reflects
your personal experiences. Please avoid copying your friends at Warwick or other
universities - Students have been caught in the past doing this which resulted in instant
rejection which reflects badly on the individual and the University.

Important points to consider when completing your CV:

Personal Details

• These should take up minimal space on your CV

• You are not required to include your Date of Birth
• If you require a work permit it is important to include your nationality

Education

• Recruiters want to quickly identify where you are studying, what you are studying and
evidence of academic performance
• Indicate your predicted result – select either 2:1 or 1st do not put both –be realistic
• If you have extenuating circumstance make reference to these in the cover letter NOT
the CV
• It is useful to list three or four key modules to provide recruiter a flavour of what you are
studying. Include either relevant modules to the division you are applying OR those
modules that you have performed particularly well in. Do NOT list all your modules.
• If you have good module averages i.e. high 2:1 or above consider including these in
brackets after the module title
• List A level subjects and grades (or equivalent)
• If you did not study A levels then do NOT try to convert your grades to the UK system –
please list the qualification title, subjects and grades as they were awarded in your
home country. Recruiters will use the NARIC - http://www.naric.org.uk/ database to
check for equivalency this is NOT your responsibility
• You do NOT need to list GCSE subject titles it is enough to quantify how many subjects
followed by a breakdown of the number of A*, A and B grades

WORK EXPERIENCE

• If you have a mixture of relevant experience and part-time jobs you may wish to have
two sections using the following sub-headings: Relevant Work Experience and Part-
Time Work
• Use bullet points to describe your experience – avoid block text
• Employers are looking for ACTUAL evidence of your skills and not generic statements
• Banks are interested in how you have developed skills during part-time work,
volunteering and work shadow placements
• Don’t forget to include attendance at Insight Days, Spring Weeks or IB networking
events

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACHIEVEMENTS

• Include society involvement, team-based sports, participation in Business Games

(including trading games), and the list goes on…….
• If you have space use it to specify your actual involvement and achievements – show
how you have contributed or progressed into a leadership position

AWARDS

• Focus on unique awards that show drive and achievement focus

• Focus on those you have achieved in recent years – do not go too far back

SKILLS, ACTIVITIES & INTERESTS

• If you have language skills then it is important to list these and provide evidence of your
fluency – avoid listing languages if you have only reached a basic level

GENERAL POINTS

1. Suggested font type: Ariel or Calibri – do not go lower than font size 11

2. Do not use any colours or anything else out of the ordinary. You do not want to
attract attention to it for the wrong reasons.

3. Do not use more than one page. At this stage, there’s no reason why you should
need a two page CV, and there are some recruiters out there who would bin a two
page CV on sight. Please note that if you are making applications to consultancies
they are more accepting of a two page CV.

4. Save it as a PDF file if possible. For those of you without the “save as PDF” option in
Microsoft Word, google “Microsoft save as pdf addon” and download it from the
Microsoft website.

5. Give it to friends and family to look at, and also make full use of the Warwick Careers
centre and the CV workshop events WBF will run in the next academic year.

6. Remember, this is not a ‘one fits all’ template, so use good judgement when using it.
