Reflection Essay

Over the course of this semester, I could see an improvement in my writing. I received

the highest grade I’ve personally received on a paper during this semester as well. I believe it

developed over the course of doing different assignments. During the course, we wrote a memo

as a group, a white paper, letter and an email ourselves. We also conducted peer reviews on each

assignment which allowed our writing to improve which I believe is how mine improved. While

some suggestions made during the peer reviews did not make sense to me, I do see the benefit of

someone else reading your work. I definitely enjoyed having these peer reviews before we turned

in our final assignment. Making the same mistakes became less frequent as the semester went on.

Going into this course, I did not know what to expect. All I knew was that it was a

technical communication class which was writing intensive so I figured I’d be writing a lot. It

was also required for my major being computer science. My goal was to do the best I could

which is what I do for all my classes. Overall, I did accomplish that goal of doing well even

though I didn’t consider myself the best writer. My grade reflected the opposite of that which I

was more than happy with. Although, the first grade I received was not what I was expecting. I

knew I had to put more time into future documents and that is exactly what I did. My overall

grade in the course was reflected on the amount of effort I put in and I was happy with how this

class went for me.

The assignment I’m most proud of was the white paper packet. I enjoyed researching the

topic I had (storms). Writing about a problem and coming up with a solution to that problem was
interesting to me. I put a lot of time and effort in acquiring the information that was used in

creating the document and also enjoyed it as well. If I could add any assignment to the course it

would be to make the resume extra credit assignment an actual assignment. I struggle when it

comes to coming up with items to put on my resume and I believe that this assignment would

have benefitted me as well as many others who struggle with the same issue. If I could edit any

assignment in this course it would be the visualization packet. While I thought it was interesting

that we discussed virtual reality and immersive experiences, it was a lot of information to process

at once in such a small window of time we have during class. This assignment would have been

better fit if it were in a 16 week course versus a 5 week course. The resume assignment would

have replaced the doing of this assignment which see as a benefit to making this class better for

future students.
