We’re told, from childhood, “nothing lasts forever.

So… why do we
chase what we want,
clutch what we have, and
cry when we lose what we love –
as if we expect that some things will never – and should never – go away?

Maybe it’s because we were created for eternity,

so we innately long to discover the “lasting things”
that we’ve been designed to share Forever with.

Some things do last forever.

If only we weren’t so often fooled by the other things… that fade away.

The challenge for us

– as permanent people inhabiting this temporary world –
is to discover & value what is truly lasting, here and now,
without getting distracted by & caught up with
what’s fading away.

Easier said than done.

During our current series of talks, we’re talking about how to know
when to grab onto what’s lasting
and when to pass on what’s passing away.

To help us, we’re going to look at a story about the time that Jesus showed up at a festival
designed to celebrate the temporary nature of this world and told the festival goers how they
can
see the life they’re missing,
examine the life they have, and
expect more out of the life ahead of them.

Our faith community gathers at Capital Church each Sunday at 9 & 11 am.

Come early, grab a cup of coffee, meet friendly people, enjoy engaging music, and learn
what the Bible says to us about truth and life.

he other day during a prayer meditation, I was reminded that everything is temporary.
Everything.

Then I saw this quote a few hours later, reconfirming the message I received during my
meditation.

“Everything is temporary;
Emotions, thoughts, people and
scenery. Do not get attached, just
flow with it.”
When we really think about it, the only thing truly permanent in this life is change.
Things already changed in the few moments it took you read this sentence. From the
time, to the clouds outside and perhaps even your mood. We, as humans, are
constantly evolving, as is the world around us.

In my recent travels, I have been reminded of so much; how fast time goes by and how
temporary each moment is. When we think of life in terms of temporariness, it adds a
layer of simplicity to things.

Emotions become easier to accept and it creates space for us to become witness to
them instead of reacting to or with them. When we realize that each emotion, whether
good or bad, is only temporary, we begin to see that they pass by us rather quickly if we
let them. Instead of getting stuck on how we are feeling moment to moment, we can
remind ourselves that “this too shall pass.” For negative emotions is a real relief and for
positive emotions it helps us to relish in the present moment just a little bit more by
hanging on to the happy pieces of emotions we feel.
Thoughts run through our minds a hundred miles a minute it feels like some times. I
don’t know about you, but my mind races at lightening speed especially when I feel
myself trying to control the present moment or future as well as when I’m living in the
past. I have noticed since I received this gentle reminder about impermanence, it has
helped me to watch my thoughts come and go more freely instead of worrying or
making up scenarios in my head of all possible outcomes. It takes guts and bravery to
let things just be allowing them to unfold and play out just as they will, regardless of our
revolving door of thoughts around them.

As sad as it may seem to say, people in our lives can be temporary also. We all have an
expiration date in life. When we begin to think in those terms we can see that the people
around us are only there for a fixed amount of time. This helps us build and create more
meaningful relationships because it teaches us to have more appreciation for people
while they are around. Tomorrow is never guaranteed as cliché as it sounds, so make
sure the ones you love and those who support you, know who they are. Cherish your
moments together because you never know when that person may have an exiting role
in your story for reasons you may never know or predict.

The beautiful thing about life is we never know what is coming next. Everything can
change in the blink of an eye, whether we like it or not. We must learn to delight in what
is here, in the now, right this very moment. We must develop an attitude of gratitude for
what is right in front of us. We must understand that when things feel like they are going
wrong, they can also turn around in an instant. And just as we feel like we are on cloud
nine, a storm could hit and send us back down to reality.

 I often work alone. When I do, I discuss things within myself. I came to the
conclusion that all things are temporary. Life in all it's aspects is temporary. All
emotions, all pain, all pleasure. It's all temporary. Likewise, death too is
temporary. Life gives way to death and death gives way to life. The only thing
that is permanent as you said, is change. The constant cycle of birth, death and
rebirth, it goes on forever and ever. What is going on now, is but a fraction of our
existence. Ever since hearing these thoughts, I have been meditating on them.
Only now have I looked on line for what I came to and I found my way here.
Even though all things are temporary, including death, that doesn't mean that
we can do what we wish. It is best that we put forth positive energy at all times.
That way, each cycle will be better and better. I do not know where the end is, or
if there is one. It is not for me to know.
What Is Globalization?
Globalization is a process of interaction and integration among the people, companies, and governments of
different nations, a process driven by international trade and investment and aided by information technology.
This process has effects on the environment, on culture, on political systems, on economic development and
prosperity, and on human physical well-beingin societies around the world.

Globalization is not new, though. For thousands of years, people—and, later, corporations—have been buying from
and selling to each other in lands at great distances, such as through the famed Silk Road across Central Asia that
connected China and Europe during the Middle Ages. Likewise, for centuries, people and corporations have
invested in enterprises in other countries. In fact, many of the features of the current wave of globalization are
similar to those prevailing before the outbreak of the First World War in 1914.

Map of the Silk Road

But policy and technological developments of the past few decades have spurred increases in cross-border trade,
investment, and migration so large that many observers believe the world has entered a qualitatively new phase in
its economic development. Since 1950, for example, the volume of world trade has increased by 20 times, and
from just 1997 to 1999 flows of foreign investment nearly doubled, from $468 billion to $827 billion. Distinguishing
this current wave of globalization from earlier ones, author Thomas Friedman has said that today globalization is
“farther, faster, cheaper, and deeper.”

This current wave of globalization has been driven by policies that have opened economies domestically and
internationally. In the years since the Second World War, and especially during the past two decades, many
governments have adopted free-market economic systems, vastly increasing their own productive potential and
creating myriad new opportunities for international trade and investment. Governments also have negotiated
dramatic reductions in barriers to commerce and have established international agreements to promote trade in
goods, services, and investment. Taking advantage of new opportunities in foreign markets, corporations have
built foreign factories and established production and marketing arrangements with foreign partners. A defining
feature of globalization, therefore, is an international industrial and financial business structure.

Technology has been the other principal driver of globalization. Advances in information technology, in particular,
have dramatically transformed economic life. Information technologies have given all sorts of individual economic
actors—consumers, investors, businesses—valuable new tools for identifying and pursuing economic opportunities,
including faster and more informed analyses of economic trends around the world, easy transfers of assets, and
collaboration with far-flung partners.

Globalization is deeply controversial, however. Proponents of globalization argue that it allows poor countries and
their citizens to develop economically and raise their standards of living, while opponents of globalization claim
that the creation of an unfettered international free market has benefited multinational corporations in the
Western world at the expense of local enterprises, local cultures, and common people. Resistance to globalization
has therefore taken shape both at a popular and at a governmental level as people and governments try to manage
the flow of capital, labor, goods, and ideas that constitute the current wave of globalization.

To find the right balance between benefits and costs associated with globalization, citizens of all nations need to
understand how globalization works and the policy choices facing them and their societies. Globalization101.org
tries to provide an accurate analysis of the issues and controversies regarding globalization, without the slogans or
ideological biases generally found in discussions of the topics. We welcome you to our website.

Negative and positive about globalization

Globalization is simply the process through which integration and

interaction of countries, companies, and people across the globe. The
process is as a result of the investment, outsourced manufacturing
and international trade. All these are supported by
information technology, with an aim of bringing economies of various
countries together. It is only through globalization that people, services,
and goodsget to move freely across the world, in a manner that is linked
and smooth.

Globalization has enabled international trade, thus allowing different

countries to utilize competitive advantages in terms of production. This
means if two countries are producing the same product, but say country
D produces the product at a lower cost than country C, then country D
will be producing and export the product to country D.

To make it clear, here is an example. If USA and China have firms that
produce the stuffed animal, but the production cost is lower in China,
then the interest of both countries is China to perform the production,
and the US will import the products. This is because, instead of either of
the countries getting benefits alone, they will both enjoy the benefits,
through the creation of employment in shipping, retailing, marketing and
manufacturing industries.

What Is The Purpose Of Life?

Have you ever asked yourself, “What is the purpose of life?”

Not too many years ago, I was constantly wondering if there was more to life
than my everyday routine.

I often wondered, “Is this…it?” I felt confused and hopeless, wondering if I'd
ever feel fulfilled and certain.

The weird thing was, on paper, I had it all — a successful career, a beautiful
family, and most importantly, I had my health.

But I just didn't have a sense of direction or meaning, especially as my

children grew older and more independent.

I also had a sense of guilt for feeling so unfulfilled and directionless.

But I knew something was missing. So, I set out to create a life of passion and
purpose that allows me to wake up excited for the day each morning and live
a fuller life with a sense of happiness that I could sustain.

What is the purpose of life?

It's difficult to have a purpose in life if you are not aware of what it really
means to do so.

Without a clear definition, it's hard to know if you are pursuing a life purpose
correctly — especially if you're confused about what you're pursuing.

Purpose refers to a primary theme of a person’s identity — your big “WHY?”

Having a purpose gives a framework for your everyday patterns of behavior.
