largest University of Pakistan, continues to impart quality education to
deserving persons from all areas of Pakistan. The University has thirteen
Faculties with 73 Departments, Centres, Institutes and Constituent
Colleges, where more than over forty six thousand students are studying in
various disciplines.
The University of Punjab has five campuses; two main campuses in Lahore and one each in
Gujranwala, Jhelum and Khanspur (Summer Campus) near Ayubia. The old premises, Allama
Iqbal Campus, depicts the historical grandeur of the University, while the Quaid-e-Azam Campus,
presents modern architecture, lush green lawns, specious landscape and clean environment. The
beautiful canal flowing through this campus adds to the calmness and serenity of the surroundings.
In addition, the University has 654 affiliated colleges spread over a large part of Punjab and
Northern Areas which cater for the educational needs of nearly seventy million people. The
University is responsible for providing curricula, conducting examinations and awarding degrees
to the students of these Colleges.
During the last few years, the University has gone through a number of institutional reforms aimed
at quality assurance in teaching and research. A number of newly emerging disciplines have been
added to make the University education relevant to the needs of the society. Similarly, to cater for
the needs of the Faculty and the students, over 7312 computers have been installed in the
University and the number is continuously increasing at a rapid pace. In addition to it 42213 Lap
Tops have been distributed among the University students by the Punjab Government. A local
Area Network service is also available for access to the new knowledge in global village
environment.
The University of the Punjab has highly qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty, which is
imparting quality education and conducting meaningful research in scientific, social, religious and
professional fields. The faculty also provides valuable guidance to scholars pursuing research in
higher education.
A unique feature of the University is its adherence to our ideological and cultural values while
maintaining a progressive professional posture. This sound amalgamation of tradition and
modernity facilitates the smooth induction of students, coming from variety of cultural
backgrounds, into the academic life of the University. It is a pleasure to provide them
opportunities to get higher education through intellectual, moral and academic training which
enable them to face the challenges of modern civilization. Accordingly, the University focuses on
the overall personality development of the students through curricular, co-curricular and sports
activities.
The University has a strong commitment to provide affordable education to deserving students
through highly subsidized fee structure and financial support. A large number of needy and merit
scholarships are available to the deserving students which provide substantial relief to them. The
University also caters for the residential needs of the students coming from other areas, for which
it maintains seventeen hostels for male and ten for the female students.

The admission process is an eventful and lively activity of the University. Every year a large
number of fresh graduates eagerly await entry into University and take interest to secure it. The
admissions to various Departments, Institutes and Constituent Colleges are made on the basis of
merit determined according to the prescribed admission criteria through fully transparent and
predictable processes.
I welcome the new entrants to this old seat of learning. I am sure they will have a comfortable
stay at their alma mater and will make every effort to benefit from the excellent faculty and
adequate facilities of the University. May God bless them with more knowledge!
PREFACE
We look forward to the new academic year and to welcome the new entrants to
this prestigious and oldest University of the country. Entering in to university
level educations marks a new phase in your life, which is not only associated
with more independence but also demands more responsibility in the selection
of your priorities and actions. Our University has produced numerous
graduates in the past who have not only served in highly important positions in
the national and international institutions, but have earned fame because of the
contributions they made.
We all look forward to our youth to not only upkeep the university traditions but to work with
dedication for improvement and excellence, which is the hallmark of an alive and vibrant society.
The University has progressed over the years, more particularly during the last decade when many
new degree programs were initiated, which was associated with expansion in the physical
infrastructure on the campus. The University academic programs are divided under thirteen
faculties, which embody several colleges, schools, institutes, departments and centers. These
institutions offer degree programs in a large number of disciplines ranging from the oriental
studies to the areas like biotechnology and nanotechnology. First-rate facilities including
laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, ready access to internet facility for all,
computer laboratories, etc., are available not only for producing well-qualified graduates, but also
undertaking high quality research.
The choice of discipline for further studies must be made not only according to the market
demands but also personal interests and aptitude should play an important role in this process. It
may not be possible for many students to get admission to a degree program of their first choice as
only a limited number of seats are available for each program and the admissions are decided
strictly on merit. However, it must be remembered that with dedication, hard work and
perseverance, it is possible to achieve excellence and earn honors and laurels in any field of study
you enter into.
Admissions to all the degree programs are made in accordance with the University Admission
Regulations, which are publicly announced prior to the admission process. These regulations
along with the admission forms, and other information like the details of the courses, etc., are
available from the relevant University departments and university book store at a nominal price.
Students are advised to consult these regulations carefully and obtain other necessary information
while filing application for admission. All the University departments shall provide help to
facilitate the candidates in their admission process.
