Writing Development

I do not think my writings have improved as a whole. When I think back on what was taught in
this class and how it can be improved, I think there should be more examples of how to write.
Throughout my school years, I have dislike English the most because every English classes tend
to teach the same concept. However, I usually learned or improved on at least thing. What I
improved on is how to write in a specific format, but my writing itself has not improved. I cannot
think of anything that would help improve this class, because I feel like most English class in
college is about writing some form of papers. In this class, we wrote about what we had assigned
to read and I think it provides a good format. But, for me, I was getting tired of writing about
islands. Overall, the skills I learn in this class would benefit me in the future, and skills that I can
use for my career.
Course Goals
I did not have a goal set in place, I treated this class as if I was going to a job every day.
However, my goal would just be able to learn something after a short period and something that I
will use in the future. I recalled this class’s goal was to teach students how to write in a technical
format, and I think it did highlight that goal. What I learned in this class is that emails can be
complicated and that I would not want to write a research paper in the future. I think every time a
new subject is taught in class; students should write about what they would use it for and how
someone they know can benefit from it. This would help students develop new habits and make
them think outside the box. This class should change the writing topic, the Reaktion Books, to
something that deals with their career choice.
Assignments
The assignment I am most proud of was the visualization packet because I got to work move and
work around my house. Also, I enjoyed writing the memo, email, and letter because I think I
would use that knowledge in the future. The memo is the most similar in what I had to write for
when also writing for other computer classes. An assignment I would add would be students
writing about a specific company they would want to work for and how they will get in. This
would help students understand how to reach their goals better and motivate them to write. If I
could change any assignment in this course, I would change the White paper. The White paper
should be a shorter length, so students can focus more time on each topic they have to write
about in the White paper. I would also edit the email or letter to where the students would have
to ask someone for a letter of recommendation or for someone to mentor them. I do not like to
use Weebly at all, because it sometimes loads my documents very slowly or not all at.
