ACTIVITY TITLE “SPREADSHEET”

LEARNING TARGETS

1. To familiarize the most commonly used function of Excel.

2. To apply several conditional functions available in Excel.
3. To use as a viable tool in market research.

LEARNING CONCEPTS

A spreadsheet is an application designed for managing and organizing the data in tabular
format. Developed as computerized simulations of paper accounting worksheets. Also, use
formulas to process data and perform integrated calculations. Daniel Bricklin and Bob Frankston
create the first spreadsheet application, The VisiCalc means Visible Calculator. The next
spreadsheet came is the Lotus 1-2-3 followed by Microsoft Excel.
The basic features of Spreadsheets are Visual Design, Automatic Calculations, Dynamic
updates and Data Analysis.
Excel have two operator. The arithmetic and the relational. Arithmetic is for computations.
Relational is for comparison. A function is a standard operation used to perform common tasks
that involves using formulas with reserved words.
Microsoft Excel provides an automated way of displaying any statistical data. It can use to
automatically’ compute for several factors that are not easy to notice especially when faced by a
large data. Microsoft excel includes several arithmetic and basic functions that help you to compute
faster.
Using Microsoft Excel, organizing and analyzing data are much simpler through the
conditional function such as COUNTIF, AVERAGEIF and SUMIF. These function work almost
the same as COUNT, AVERAGE, and SUM with exception that you can provide criteria where if
it is not met, the data is to be ignored by the formula and therefore not the computer.
COUNTIF syntax include range and criteria. The Range is the cells involved, and criteria
is the value or label that needs to fulfilled if the part of the range is to be a counted. AVERAGEIF
and SUMIF, on the other hand, have three part of it syntax: range, criteria and average range. The
range and criteria work the same as the COUNTIF’s syntax with the exception that it would be

average or sum. The average range is optional part of the syntax. It is where the actual range of
cells that will be average or sum is located. If it is not specify, the range will used instead.
In addition, there are mathematical functions such as SUM( ) for sum arguments, ABS (x)
for absolute value function, EXP (x) for natural exponential function, CEIL (x) for round x up
function, FLOOR(x) for round x down function, INT(x) for integer value function, LOG(x) for
logarithm function, POWER(x,p) power function, RAND(x) for random number function,
ROUND(x,n) for rounds number, and many more. There are also Statistical and VLOOKUP
functions.
The raw data can convert to illustration using graphs. Graphs is composed of different
parts, which are the title, the labels, the scales and the key or legends. The title that provides a brief
description of the graphs. The labels telling what kind of data is being show. The scales number
and any data representation that show units used in graphs. The legends display what color or
image it represents. The Graphs is classified in various type with different usage such as pie graph,
bar graph, line graph, Scatter graph.
