NOTES ON EMPOWERMENT TECHNOLOGIES

Microsoft® Powerpoint – a program that allows us to create interactive presentations. It is also a form of visual aid
Animation – A set of effects which can be applied to objects in MS PowerPoint so that they will animate in the Slide Show PowerPoint.
Animation Categories
1. Entrance Effect – this will create an animation where your object first enters the slide.
2. Exit Effect – your object will leave the slide
3. Emphasis Effect – While on the slide, your object may do some animation that is not an entrance or exit effect.
4. Motion Path – Set your object to move in a specific direction or manner
Animation Pane - View a list of animations applied to a slide
Hyperlink – a selectable object that includes the path information to another object
Infographics – used to represent information, statistical data or knowledge in a graphical and creative manner.
– Allows us to tell a more complete story of data and are more engaging than most traditional ways of communicating
data and information
– an artistic representation of data and information using different elements such as:
 Graphs  Diagrams  Timelines
 Pictures  Narrative  Check lists
PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN & LAYOUT – Suggests pleasing ways of arranging the elements of design on a page/canvas.
1. Balance
- A feeling of visual equality in shape, form, value, color, etc.
Can be  symmetrical (evenly  radial – Balance is achieved by
balanced /distributed) making elements radiate
from a central point

 asymmetrical (un-evenly
balanced/distributed)

2. Contrast
- The elements are opposing one another
- Example: Big against small, light against dark

3. Emphasis
- Used to make certain parts of the artwork stand out to grab attention. The center of
interest or focal point is the place a work that gets your attention first.
4. Proportion
- Describe the size, location or amount of one thing compared to another
5. Pattern
- Created by reoeating an element (line, shape, color) over and over again
6. Gradation
- Gradation of size and direction produce linear perspective. Graduation from dark to light will cause the eye to move along a
shape.
- Can add interest and movement to a shape
7. Rhythm
- Rhythm is achieved when visual elements create a sense of organized movement.
8. Harmony
- Elements are similar in size, shade or shape
9. Variety
- Uses several design elements to draw a viewer’s attention.
Elements of Design – create every objects around us
1. Line 3. Size 5. Texture
2. Shapes 4. Color 6. Value
Texture – the way a surface feels (actual texture) or how it may look (implies texture)
Value – how dark or how light something looks. We achieve value by changing the colors ie., adding black or white to the colors.
Steps in creating a simple mail merge
1. Create main document 2. Create data source 3. Insert place holder 4. Preview 5. Print
