REFLECTION

A teacher doesn’t teach just because it’d his/her job, but because it is his/her passion. It is a teacher’s
dedication that allows him/her to teach effectively and efficiently inside the classroom. But how can someone
teach without the qualities of first, becoming a human?
Before someone graduated his/her degree in teaching, he/she was first a student. A student who spent
time harnessing knowledge and skills in different ways. However, it is not all about knowledge and skills; it is
also about acquiring the right attitudes and values that can be imparted to the students later on.
I have learned a lot in our subject HUMS 422, which is all about Logics, Ethics, and Philosophy. We are
taught almost in every domain of learning. We are enhanced not to be just a teacher but a human teacher. A
teacher which possesses great talent in thinking, reasoning, and attitude. I was amazed on how great I have
grown after I was enlightened with all the topics of this subject. Let me enumerate my learning for each part.
Philosophy means love of wisdom. We are burdened everyday by our problems and all the things we
need to decide day by day without realizing its great impact in our life. Philosophy goes beyond facts, it goes
beyond what we think but rather it governs us on what to think. I have learned different philosophies in life
that might help me in decision-making. I am the type of person who decides first based on what I feel but the
difference is I don’t follow certain philosophies or philosophies of other people. I have not yet matured in
what was expected by everyone, but I have learned to let my philosophies guide my intuition and help me
become a better person. Philosophy leads me to ignoring all the facts but rather focuses on what I feel about
something. How do I feel about a certain thing? How will I decide on handling this problem? I can now decide
what are the solutions, step by step.
Ethics is a logical understanding of right and wrong that sets out what people should do and should not
do whether it is in fairness, virtues, obligations, or rights. I have been exposed to a lot of issues in my
surroundings; issues in immorality, issues in criminality and a lot more. How can I say that they are really
wrong? Or even right? I believe that ethics are set of standards that allow us to continuously examine what
are the necessary things that we can accept as right or wrong. I have learned that the most universally
acceptable conduct is all that are written in the natural law. There are also truths that were accepted by the
society but still they are based on the Divine law or the Natural law written in the Holy Scripture. I have from
other proponents that truth is discovered through reason, but Hume said that it is based on our emotion and
reason which may be true to some people and may not be true to some. As for me, I believe that ethics is
what we think and feel about. We can say that it is right if it’s what we feel. Ethics for me is solely about what
we feel about a certain thing.
Logic is a reasoning conducted or assessed according to strict principles of validity. I am not really a
logical person. I decide based on what I feel. But I find it entertaining to solve certain logical games in my class.
It made me appreciate logics more. In the past, I can’t relate when the topic is about logic, but now I can
somehow manage to interact with those people who likes to have a logical conversation. I enjoyed my logic
class as much as I enjoyed other topics. Most people associate logic with smart and educated people since it is
like learning abstract things. However, I learned that being logical doesn’t set boundaries. We can be logical in
our own little ways. We set rules in order to verify our reasoning. Logic needs to be verified with facts and that
is what we need to do in order to attain the correct and valid reasoning.
I am already looking forward to applying this learning on my teaching career. I was taught on how to
become a feeling teacher, not a demanding teacher. I have learned that becoming a teacher is not easy; we
need tools, powerful ones, in order to educate well our students. I hope that I’ll become one of the great
teachers someday. With the help of the values I have acquired in this subject, there’s no way I can’t become
one.
IMPRESSION
This subject was not my cup of tea since the beginning of time. I didn’t think it will become beneficial
to me in some ways. However, I heard that Sir Albaladejo will be our professor and excitement went rushing in
since I heard a lot of good feedbacks about this professor.
A man of wisdom, skills, and values, I was not click baited when I entered his class. First, I thought that
the subject will not be interesting at all. And he even told us that we shall conduct our own seminars regarding
the topic. How are we supposed to learn from that? I was thinking that my classmates may find it boring and
not interesting at all. I thought this is just another class were we will deliver our reports without minding what
others will learn from us.
However, we have already undergone our practice teaching and I was amazed by the improvement of
my classmates. They improved from reporters to a highly knowledgeable speakers and I am so proud of them.
This time, I already expected that this subject is worth taking and I was not mistaken, because I have learned a
lot in this subject. At first I thought it will be hard especially in logics but I was proven wrong by the speakers
and I really enjoyed the discussion. I also enjoyed my time as the speaker where I was enhanced and exposed
in speaking and discussing in front of an audience. I was able to talk more confidently this time which made
me proud of myself.
The subject was enjoyable and the speakers had done a good job in explaining each of their topic. The
activities provided were a good example that can be used as future references in making activities for our
students too. There are ice breakers that had really caught the attention of the audience. I was really happy to
see my classmates enjoying the dance video we had prepared for them and even those video prepared by
other groups.
Before the start of the semester, I was hoping that it will not be stressful and that the home works
would be lesser now that we have a little subject left to take. I was also hoping for a good professor who can
understand us and doesn’t judge us easily. Someone who can understand us deeply and doesn’t wish for our
downfall but wishes for our success. I found it in the person of this man who wishes us success as a teacher in
our life. I have heard a lot of great feedbacks about this professor and I expected that I can learn a lot from
him. I was not mistaken and I was so thankful for all the knowledge that I had acquired in this person. He is
someone you can rely on and he is a very approachable person. I have enjoyed his class and his discussion, his
funny remarks that can make us laugh even though it is just about simple things. He made quizzes easy and
answerable and we are very thankful because of that. I hope I can become this type of teacher someday,
someone who is full of knowledge and wisdom, someone who can understand her students.
