Holy Trinity Anglican Church - 2019 Edmonton Fringe Safe Church Policy
Itis the policy of Holy Trinity Anglican Church that sexual abuse and sexual harassment of any kind by
any person at our venue will not be tolerated, ‘There is zero tolerance for any abuse, harassment or
diserimination,
Sexual conduct cannot be treated by the church as an entirely private affair between consenting adults,
since others’ attitudes and relationships are bound to be affected. Moreover, in relationships of trust,
‘whether with children or adults, the greatest care must be exercised to avoid taking advantage of trust, or
abusing a situation of responsibility and caring. I! should also be noted that Holy Trinity does not offer
public rest rooms in the building during the Fringe, the public are directed to the Port-o-Potties located on
the front lawn adjacent to 101 St
In light of the mixed nature of the Fringe productions at Holy Trinity where both Theatre for Young
Audienices (TY) and conventional shows will be produced and the potential for a public perception of
safety for vulnerable members of the public, whether legitimate or not, the following pro-active steps are
being taken to mitigate any potential perceptions of risk whether real or imagined regarding Mr. David
Belke
In determining risk assessment for an event, Holy Trinity has taken into account these 4 principles:
1. Inline with our zero tolerance policy, we examine whether any person, especially any child (under
18) is being put in a position of harm’
2. Is David Belke, who because of his past situation can be vulnerable to real or false accusations, being
put in a position of harm?
3. Is Holy Trinity (the Church) being put in a position of harm?
4, Is David Belke being put into a position of public leadership or authority?
In light of these aims, our zero tolerance policy for sexual abuse and harassment, the Canadian Charter of
Rights and Freedoms and our understanding of our prerogative to respect the dignity of every human
being, the following steps are being taken at the 2019 Fringe Festival.
4, All Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) will operate in the mornings ending by 2:00 PM each day.
2, Mr. David Belke has voluntarily agreed that he will not be on site prior to 3:00 PM on any day of the
Fringe when there are TY As occurring (August 15-25) and that after 3 pm he has agreed that he will
not have any unsupervised access to any non-public Venue Areas at Holy Trinity at anytime during
the Festival unless supervised by Fr. Chris Pappas, the Rev. Daniele Lepine, Marguerite Trussler or
John deHaan
3. A representative of the Production Team or a Representative from Holy Trinity will accompany Mr.
David Belke at ail imes when he attends a performance of “Who Goes There?”
It should be clearly stressed that these steps are meant to prevent any perception of risk, not to imply that
Mr. David Belke is a risk.
