THE PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE

Rationale

Soil is the most important source of the growth of plants. Which develop on it, because it

hold roots that provide, support for plants and stores nutrients. Based on the characteristics of the

soil, we selected three types of soil, including Loamy soil, Sandy soil and Mud soil for the

conducting the cultivation experiments to investigate the soil factors influencing it’s growth and

development and select the soil types that suitable for cultivating of the growth of plant.

Plant growth promoting microorganisms (PGPMs) are another important factor to help

plant to absorb nutrients from the soils. [4,16] Literatures have indicated that PGPMs could

affect plant performance and nutrient uptake.[4,16] The PGPM strains Pseudomonas alcaligenes,

Bacillus polymyxa, and Mycobacterium plié have been found to promote plant growth more

significantly when inoculated into the nutrient-deficient soil.[9,10] PGPMs could foster plant's

nutrient uptake efficiency under poor soil conditions. [1,2,25] In addition, PGPMs could also

induce plant resistance to phytopathogens (bacteria, fungi, and viruses)[4,12] , insect

pests[28,44] and nematodes[28,35] . For example, Zehnder [44] indicated that cucumber plants

inoculated with plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) could induce the resistance to

cucumber beetle feeding. Moreover, past research also indicated that rice plants inoculated with

PGPR strains could also reduce the rice leaf folder performance (Cnaphalocrocis medinalis). [17]

Since nutrients and PGPMs all stayed in the soil environment, the soil property could also affect their

interactions. However, very little is known about the effects of soil type on functions of PGPMs. Therefore, the
objective of this study was to assess the potential effects of soil type and PGPMs on plant performance and

subsequently on performance of S. litura.

Statement of the Problem

This study was conducted to determine the effect of Okra seeds and the different types of

soil which is the Loamy soil, Mud soil and Sandy soil to the growth and development of Okra

seeds.

Specifically, this study aimed to answer the following questions.

1) What is the effect of the different types of soil which is the Loamy soil, Mud soil and

Sandy Soil to the growth of Okra seeds in terms of its growth?

2) Is there any significant difference between the different types of soil which is the

Loamy soil, Mud soil and Sandy soil on the growth and development of Okra seeds?

Objectives of the study

This research study aimed to identify the following Objectives.

1) To determine the comparative effect of the different types of soil which is the Loamy soil,

Mud soil and Sandy soil on the Okra seeds growth.

2) To determine if there is any significant different between the different types of soil which is

the Loamy soil, Mud soil and sandy soil on the growth and development of Okra seeds?

Conceptual Framework

The diagram below shows and illustrate what researcher wanted to find out it has two

variables which are the independent and dependent variables. The independent variable is the

treating the Loamy soil, Mud soil and Sandy soil as a soil of Okra seeds and would obtained to

determine if it has a significance difference between the dependent variable that is the growth of

Okra seeds.

Significance of the Study

This study served as an insight to those people who wanted to know which of this type of

soil that plant can easily to grow. The Researchers believe that this study would beneficial to the

following:

To the planters. This study could help the planters to know which the types of soil that plants

can easily to grow.

To the Parents. This study raised awareness for them to be more open and sensitive in planting

on the different types of soil.

To the Future Researchers. This study served as their guide, tool, and information to their

future researches and experiments to those who wants to go further investigation about

the problem.

Scope and Delimitation of the Study

This study was conducted at Rapasun MSU, Marawi City, Philippines during the A.Y.

2019-2020. The Researchers developed the set-up to the control set-up. The result of this study

was based on the effect of the seeds of Okra on the different types of soil which is the Loamy

soil, Mud soil and Sandy soil to the growth and development of Okra seeds.
