SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT THROUGH CULTURE AND VALUES

INTRODUCTION:

No development can be sustainable without including culture, from

Cultural heritage to Cultural and creative industries. Culture is both an enabler
and a driver of the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable
development. Cultural sustainability as it relates to sustainable development
(sustainability), has to do with the maintaining of cultural beliefs, cultural
practices, heritage conservation as its own entity, and attempts to answer the
questions of whether or not any given cultures will exist in the context of the
future.

Sustainable Development is the organizing principles for meeting human

development goals while simultaneously sustaining the ability of natural systems
to provide the natural resources and ecosystem services upon which the
economy and society depend. The importance of Sustainable Development is
development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the
ability of the future generations to meet their own needs. Sustainable
development has continued to evolve as that of protecting the world’s resources
while it’s true agenda is to control the world’s resources.

The Role of Culture in Sustainable Development

Systematically integrating cultural specificities in the conception,

measurement, and practice of development is imperative as it ensures the
involvement of the local population and a desirable outcome of development
efforts. Sustainable tourism, cultural and creative industries, and heritage based
urban revitalization are powerful economic subsectors that generate green
employment, stimulate local development, and foster creativity. Local and
indigenous knowledge systems and environmental management practices
provide valuable insight and tools for tackling ecological challenge preventing
biodiversity loss, reducing land degradation, and mitigating the effects of climate
change.in the transition to green societies, dialogue and tolerance will be key for
mutual understanding and the building of bridges among nations and countries,
leading to a culture of peace, which is a prerequisite for sustainable
development. In that context, we must make the most of the worlds cultural
diversity, as it fosters development and social cohersion .Although there is still
much work to be done on fully integratring culture into the international
development policies has been an important step in mainstreaming the role of
culture. We now need to build on this progress to ensure culture ability to
support truly sustainable development is fully harnessed by alland that culture is
a key part of the post 2015 development framework.

VALUES IN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Empathy, commitment to social justice and equity. Value and respect for
diversity. Concern for the environment and commitment to sustainable
development.
IV. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS:

Economic development achieved so far has adopted various techniques

which have proved harmful for the environment in which we reside in the
growing population and our rate of consumption of natural resources has placed
a big stress on the environment. The crying seed is for sustainable development
which aims at development which does not have a negative impact on the
environment.Careful use of the resources and maximum use of non-conventional
energy sources and maximum use of non-conventional energy resources will
enable us to attain sustainable development. The environment has four functions,
to supply resources, assimilates wastes, sustain life by providing genetic and bio-
diversity and provide aesthetic services. Population explotion has put the
environment under undue pressure. The economic growth has cost us a lot of our
natural resources apart from proving hazardous to human health. In order to
protect our environment from future destruction, as part of sustainable
development has to be adopted. Sustainable Development is a kind of
development which meet the needs of the present consumption without
compromising on the future generation meeting their needs. Promoting natural
resources, conservation of natural resources using non-conventional energy
resources and avoiding undue pressure on the environment would lead to
sustainable development.
