August 19th Weekly Homework

Directions: Answer the following questions using COMPLETE SENTENCES unless it is a math calculation. Five
questions will be checked on Wednesday for completion. All ten questions will be due Friday and graded
based on accuracy.
1. Trevion exerts 8 N of force when he pushes the garbage can east. There is 2 N of friction acting against
the garbage can and 1N of air resistance working against it on this windy day. Draw a free-body
diagram to represent this scenario AND calculate the net force. Include normal and gravitational force

2. Describe the motion of the object below.

3. Using the information from question 2, was there any change in velocity? Explain.

4. As the mass of an object increases/decreases, what happens to the inertia of an object? What kind of
relationship is this?

5. Showing your work, calculate the force of the following objects:

a. Mass= 100 kg Acceleration= 20 m/s2
b. Mass= 40 kg Acceleration= 5 m/s2
c. Acceleration= 3 m/s2 Mass= 27 kg

6. What is the mass of an object that used 80 N to go 10 m/s2? Show your work.
7. Maddy enjoys bowling. She wants to choose a bowling ball that would accelerate the quickest when
going down the lane. She sat down and figured out the mass of each bowling ball. She knew she
wanted to use about the same force for each ball. Bowling ball A had a mass of 800 kg, bowling ball B is
700 kg, bowling ball C is 600 kg, and bowling ball D is 900 kg. Which ball should she use if she wants the
fastest acceleration? Explain.

8. Alec uses 50 N of force to move a box with an acceleration of 2 m/s2 and a mass of 25 kg. Name two
ways he could decrease the amount of force needed to move the box.

Use the chart below to help you answer question 9.

Object Force Mass Acceleration
A 10 N 5 kg 2 m/s2
B 6N 2 kg 3 m/s2
C

9. Object C requires a greater force to move it compared to objects A and B. If the mass of Object C is 8
kg, would be acceleration of Object C need to be greater or less than 2 m/s2? Explain.

10. Use the LENSES approach to give all information needed for the following graph.
