What are the best interview questions asked for
These are my Interview Experiences for ECE branch (2018).
ECE department?
IIT Delhi - M.Tech in Telecom Technology and Management What are the questions asked to ECE student
during interview?
First of all we were given a small sheet of paper where we had to fill the priority for MS
or M.tech as per your interest and write the names of subjects from which the What are the questions asked in the interview of
candidate wants the interviewer to ask questions from. I had given my subject as IIIT Delhi for an MTech (ECE)?
Questions :
1. General Introduction like Why Mtech? Why not MS? (as my first priority was
Mtech).
4. Explain ASK ( Amplitude Shift Keying) and PSK (Phase Shift Keying ) with
waveforms.
6. Draw the rectangular pulse ( from 0 to T). What is the fourier transform for it?
7. Now modulate that Pulse and find the fourier transform for resultant. (As I
didn’t remember the exact equations I explained everything with waveforms
and diagrams).
8. Now the Pulse is modified such that it will come to zero after T/2 duration
(Unipolar RZ). and repeat question 7 with this pulse.
2. ‘exp(as)’ is given as input to some real time system and we are getting output
as 0. Then what will be the output if the input given is ‘exp(as*)’. Where 's' is
complex variable.
5
. What is the fourier transform of impulse train?
6
. What are the different modulation schemes?
7
. In FSK, frequency f1 is 1Mhz and f2 is 1Mhz + 0.1 Hz) then what is the Bitrate?
1
. Write the electron Current density Equation.
1
. In this equation why the sign of both the terms is positive?
2. Draw CMOS. Plot the transfer characteristics and indicate the threshold
value.
4
. Where is the Body of NMOS Connected?
5
. Now connect the body of PMOS to ground and that of NMOS to Vdd and draw
the transfer characteristics again.
6
. Will the value of threshold change? If yes then what is that value?
7
. Show the new threshold value in transfer characteristics.
Overall experience was awesome. Professors were very helpful and they will give
enough time for you to think on a particular question.
Whenever some proof is asked try to give complete explanation and significance of
assumptions that you will take. Even if you can answer the questions correctly they
will not consider it if you can’t explain the logic behind it.

• It sound Harsh? Hmm. Well if you are not among the top rankers than you
might have to pass through One more Written Test or Interview.
• The written test holds the same level of toughness as GATE. But this is only
for those who failed to score good rank & it also varies with different
branch & IITs, Like in Mechanical Branch you don’t need to give any
Interview or test for any IIT.
• But If you are among the top rankers than you don’t need to go through this
process. Here meaning of top ranker is that your AIR Should be <250. An
optimum rank for all the branch’s. It can be more or less on some extent.
• So if you already have good rank than take direct admission in your
allotted college and start to chase your dreams.
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
These are the interview experiences that I have faced in EC branch, 2018. Few IITs
have a written test too. My rank was 1389 (GEN) in EC branch 2018 paper (The
toughest EC paper in recent years). I knew that the fight was tough at this rank but I
filled all the possible forms to get a call and indeed I got 7–8 of them from core
branches. I knew that if my interviews go well, I may get a chance.
1
. General Introduction for 1 min.
3. Can I assign a vector to the samples in place of real numbers or time varying
wave forms?

can you say about their joint pdf ?
5
. If I have a set of three pair wise independent random variables, what can be
said about their joint pdf?

with same number of samples. How can the SNR be 10db in this case?
9
. Can we define the statistical property of a single random variable without co-
variance?
10
. Some talks about my home town and family. My interests in general life etc.
1
. Wrote a second order equation in terms of x as independent and y as
dependent variable and asked me if that was linear or not?
3. Wrote three transfer functions and asked me to find the final value. One of
them had pole on RHS so it’s answer would be infinite or not defined.
4
. Asked me to find the final phase of all the three given transfer functions
without solving. (At infinity, every pole is -90 degree contribution while
every zero is +90 degree so it can be solved in mind..seeing the number of
poles and zeroes)
5
. Wrote a function and asked to find the unit response for that.
6
. What is controllability and observability?
7
. In one of the transfer functions given above, he asked me to comment on the
Gain margin of the system. As the polar plot was not crossing the real axis for
that one, the answer was infinite.
1
. Asked questions related to rank of matrix. Almost 2–3 questions…if i
transpose, will the rank change or not etc.. Gave a 2*3 matrix and asked the
rank.

equation of Maxwell and it’s significance.
They asked about basic image processing from a few students as well. I didn’t face it
because it was not in my curriculum of B.Tech. This was mainly because
Geoinformatics deals a lot in satellite image processing.
You must be thinking that most of the questions were so difficult. I was also thinking
the same way before I appeared for these interviews. I am also an average guy who got
the opportunity to attend these interviews.
My strategy was to pick subjects of my interest. When I got the calls for these
respective branches, I figured out that digital communication and signal & systems
would be very helpful to tackle these interviews. Hence, I began preparing using
NPTEL, my coaching notes and a few standard books in the last 10–12 days. I picked
up important topics like z-transform, fourier, Random variables and processes, and
Digital modulation techniques. I referred NPTEL for all this at 2 times the speed.
Luckily, most of the questions were a part of my last 10–12 days revision for the
interview. So I was able to answer many of them.
Don’t worry, they try their best to get the answer out from you. They will give you
certain hints too. You may give wrong answer, but be sure about what you say. If on
every answer they dodge you for confirmation and you keep on changing the answer,
then that is not good as per my experience. They will be very calm and you can ask for
some time as well to think about the answer. But don’t give wrong answer with utter
confidence. If you are confused, you can ask them to allow you to think.
And trust me, that the thinking time is very helpful. It was indeed for me.
If you have given an average performance, then 70–30 ratio is what does your
evaluation. 70% for gate exam and 30% interview marks, but if you have given an
exceptionally well interview, then they will definitely select you regardless of your
rank.
I also got calls from BHU, Mandi, bhubaneshwar, Hyderabad (MS) and IIST. But due
to date clashes I couldn't attend all of them. At my rank you will certainly get these
calls and direct admission at Dhanbad in a few rounds for core branch.
Inbox me for any other interview related query. Will be glad to help.
I got an interview call for M.tech in computer Technology from IITD. I was called
along with 500 other candidates. First they gave all of us a slip where we had to write
our preference (M.Tech or M.S.), major topics prepared, Minor topics prepared, Final
year project. This was done to help interviewers to set the tone of the interview.
My turn came at 8:00pm. I went inside. The interview panel consisted of two
members. They looked at my slip and simply put it off. They told they want to ask me
questions from other topics. I told ok.
My interview was conducted by a panel of three brilliant but very humble proffessors
- Mr. A.K. Jagannatham , Mr. R.K. Bansal and Mr. P. Sircar.
1
. Explain cdf and pdf on the black board.(Mathematically)
2. Its properties.
3. Few simple numericals based on pdf and cdf. (To find cdf for given pdf and
the value of the function at origin)
4
. Explain fourier transform and its derivation from fourier series.
5
. Few numericals based on fourier transform. (Based on duality property)
6
. Nyquist rate, its applications and aliasing.
7
. Finding nyquist rate of a given sinc function.
Be strong with the basic concepts. Do not panic if you cannot answer, the panelists
will help you with hints - follow them and it will lead you to the right answer to the
question.
The selection day at iit Gandhinagar starts with an hour long orientation process
followed by a 1 hr written test to sieve students for interview.
The written test consists of three sections which are gate level maths, aptitude and
paragraph based questions. Students are asked to specify the branch in which they
wish to appear for the interview in the written test omr sheet among Spcomm, VLSI
and electrical branches. I opted SPCOMM. The results of written test will be declared
in an hour.
Interview questions:
1
. General introduction.
4
. The professor gave me a discrete time LTI system and asked to determine if it
is stable or not.
For the written test revise basic concepts of quantitative ability and engineering
maths. Be prepared for a long day in the campus and enjoy the process…
