Joe Arpaio Announces 2020 Bid to Win 7th Term as Maricopa County Sheriff
(Phoenix, AZ) Sheriff Joe Arpaio is today announcing that he will seek another term as Sheriff in
Maricopa County, Arizona, in 2020. Arpaio, known as “America’s Toughest Sheriff,” had previously
served from January 1, 1993 until December 31, 2016. This remarkable 24-year run in office made him
the longest serving Sheriff in Maricopa County history.

“On this day, August 25, 2019, after consultation and approval from my wife of 61 years, Ava, I have
decided to run to be re-elected Sheriff,” said Sheriff Arpaio. “Watch out world! We are back!” Sheriff
Arpaio and Ava have always had a great love for Arizona and the people who live here.

Arpaio noted that the date of this announcement is important to him as he is celebrating Ava’s birthday
on August 25th and it also happens to be the date that President Trump pardoned him on a scurrilous
misdemeanor contempt charge filed by President Obama’s administration.

When he is back in office, Sheriff Arpaio will re-open Tent City Jail and bring back his popular jail policies,
reinstitute the Posse to its former strength and continue to enforce all Arizona laws that deal with drug
trafficking, sex trafficking and other crimes associated with the border and illegal immigration.

Protecting the law-abiding people of Maricopa County will be an overriding priority.

“I will continue to stand and fight to do the right thing for Arizona and America, and will never
surrender,” Arpaio declared. “Those who break the law will have to deal with this Sheriff.”

Two months ago, Sheriff Arpaio indicated a decision to run would be made by the end of August. In the
intervening time, he has been humbled by the many thousands of people across the nation, including
Arizona, encouraging him to run for Sheriff of Maricopa County, Arizona, again.

Winning in next year’s election would give him an unprecedented seventh term in office. Arpaio has
never lost a Republican primary for Sheriff and he is the only Republican Sheriff re-elected in the past
100 years in Maricopa County. His expected opponent, a Democrat, will be finishing his first, and likely
only term as Sheriff, in 2020.

“The last four years have proven to be a time of lost opportunities to continue the kind of tough policing
this county needs,” said Arpaio. “Once back in office, I will use my position to restore pride to our law
enforcement ranks, not only here, in the fourth-largest county in America, but across the country.”

Sheriff Arpaio and his wife realize that during the past several years, his opponents, activists and
political figures on the Left, have utilized slanderous attacks on him through the fake and biased news

media to try and keep him from being heard, but these efforts have failed. However, he expects these
attacks will continue in full force, even more so with today’s announcement.

In his 55 years in law enforcement, Sheriff Arpaio served with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration
(DEA), including as the head of the DEA in Turkey, Mexico City and Latin America. Sheriff Arpaio was
also a DEA head in several locations in the U.S., including Arizona and Texas. Sheriff Arpaio from the
beginning supported President Trump, introduced him at his very first rally in Phoenix in July 2015.
Arpaio also spoke in primetime at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland in 2016.

Sheriff Arpaio’s primary mission in running for Sheriff again is to “Make Maricopa County Safe Again.”
